Celtics won't, at least LAL 29 1st is needed.

I'd hate to go all out and give up precious future assets to attempt win now.
That's why I'd prefer going after Jrue instead with a package of Klay/Martin/Powell, Gafford/Klay or Gafford/Martin/Hardy for Jrue and some draft capital.

This is a price I am willing to pay, but I suspect it can get outbid, in which case I'll wush succes to whoever got him.

Paying Holiday till 40 is a bit risky. Holiday has already show sign of regressing.

I have Herb Jones above Jrue Holiday. So I hope they try that route first. Herb is only 26 years old and 6'7. He'll be here a while.

My point is to not give up future assets just to try to win now.
Holiday is someone who is achievable that should not require any future assets going out.
If we could get him and #32 pick (2025) for Klay/Martin/Powell the Mavs should do it imo.

Herb would be great but he doesn't fill the gaping hole we currently have.
Acquiring him would require giving up assets we would need to fill that gaping hole.

Yep. Agree with this. Nico would need to completely re-tool the team in this case. Which would mean sending out depth to get one guy which NOLA value far too much probably.
Herb would have been great when Luka was still with Mavs, now it doesn't make sense to stockpile guard/wings when you have a young guy in Flagg that you need to develop and a gaping hole on the playmaking position. People are overthinking this way too much at this point.
Dirk probably said "No thanks"

Please fire Nico and trade AD before the draft. It would make for such an exciting few weeks

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
yes wrestling is fake, but something recently happened that made me wonder if the fans can influence what ownership does. WWE recently released a long time vet named Ron Killings. The crowd sort of high jacked subsequent shows with chants calling for his return. And it worked, the re-signed him soon after.
Do you think this could work in the NBA. Hypothetically if the Fire Nico chants picked up where they left off this season, with an added Trade AD chant

I think MEM and MIN will fall coming season. DAL and SAS would be part of the playoff teams, possibly features OKC, DEN, HOU, LAL, LAC The playoff teams in the West could be more competitive while the tanking teams will be significantly weaker. HOU could be better trading for Giannis or KD.

Now, if Mavs decided to retool this thing with all guys 27 and under, I'd be all in.
They could probably be just about as competitive 3 years from now with the 27 and under, as they would be 2 years from now with the geezers.
Flagg - 19
Christie - 22
Lively - 22
OMax - 24
Hardy - 24
Naji - 27
BWill - 27
PJ - 27
Gafford - 27
Plus, all of the young players and draft picks we should receive from trading AD, Kyrie, and Klay.

AD should definitely go. I'd like to keep Kyrie because we'd still need some vets and he seems to be really loved in the locker room. I never wanted to sign Klay, but if we did a trade with Detroit where we sent them AD and got Ivey and picks, I'm OK with keeping klay for one more seas.plus he and Ky are tight.
But AD must go. Get rid of Martin and Hardy while you are at it

I like Kyrie too but there is the potential that he could have the worst contract in the league if he doesn't come back fully healthy.
I'd be much more comfortable if Nico would just focus on building around Flagg and acquire as many picks and young players w/potential as possible using AD, Kyrie and Klay.
This team will win a championship without Kyrie, Klay and AD before it will win one with them.
Their best days are definitely behind them, but they are or will be getting paid like their best days are ahead.
I've got a big problem with rewarding players for what they have done in the past for other teams.
Not a recipe for success imo.

I don’t see any reason why we should think that Kyrie won’t come back from a torn ACL and still be very good to great. Players come back from ACL injuries all the time and Kyrie takes very good care of his body.
I do understand though that there is risk because of his age. That’s why I’m hoping they can get Kyrie to sign for less than $40M for 3 years (2+P1). That would be their window for a championship with Kyrie. At that point Cooper Flagg will be 20-21 years old and if they haven’t won a title they move on from Kyrie. Hopefully they will move on from AD for draft picks and young talent but we’ll see about that.

Kyrie's game is so dependent on his knees and that what concerns me the most.
That and the fact this next season will be a wash, and all of these already old fossils (including Kyrie) will be a year older the following year.

Re: Dallas Mavericks 2025 Trade thread -- Roster and Cap
Lotta talk about Herb. What about Murphy?
DAL receives: Murphy
NOP receives: PJ + Gaff + LAL 29 FRP
DAL gets a legit 3rd option who can playmake a bit while Kyrie is out and also can fit into 3 different positions (SG, SF and PF).
Pels get a guy in PJ that can start with Zion and also easily fill in when he's inevitably hurt. Gaff becomes their starting C. They also get a future FRP.
Just throwing out an idea.
