State Franchises Draft - Play in - Laimbeer vs Snakebites*

Post#1 » by durantbird » Thu Jun 12, 2025 7:16 pm

Here is a quick list of what you need in your writeup.

1. Specific years for each player on your team
2. Rotations and minutes for each player
3. Reasoning as to why your team will win and/or why people should vote for you.

Do not vote in this thread until both managers have submitted their writeups. Once the writeups are posted, I will add a poll, and the team with the most votes after 24 hours will advance. EACH MANAGER SHOULD ALSO VOTE FOR THEIR OWN TEAM IN THE POLL - IF YOU FAIL TO DO THIS, YOU ARE SIMPLY GIVING AWAY A VOTE. If the votes are tied, we will decide the matchup via AI vote.

You are not required to state or explain your vote, but you are free to comment in the thread if you want to.

If writeups aren't posted within 24 hours, we will vote solely based on the players they have drafted (and any rotations they have posted on their roster page).

Patrick Ewing ( 1989 ) 16.0
Pascal Siakam ( 2025 ) 15.2
Luguentz Dort ( 2025 ) 8.4
Klay Thompson ( 2015 ) 16.9
Gary Payton ( 1998 ) 15.6

Andrew Bogut ( 2016 ) 4
Joe Ingles ( 2017 ) 5.5
Alex Caruso ( 2025 ) 5.8

87.4

Patrick Ewing (38) / Andrew Bogut (10)
Pascal Siakam (38) / Joe Ingles (10)
Luguentz Dort (36) / Joe Ingles (4) / Klay Thompson (8)
Klay Thompson (32) / Alex Caruso (16)
Gary Payton (38) / Alex Caruso (10)

The offense is well built and balanced. Ewing is the best center in the game and is surrounded by space, secondary scoring, and a superb playmaker in Payton. McAdoo is not a good defender, setting the blossoming Siakam up for a big series. Horford is very good, but not an elite defensive anchor.

Our defense really has no weak spots. Ewing/McAdoo, Siakam/Horford, Dort/George, Klay/Butler, and Payton/Kidd. McAdoo demands the ball and shoots a lot. It's not clear how be melds into an offense with Butler and George. Older KIdd may struggle with the lock down defense from prime Payton.

I'm not seeing a big talent difference and believe the fit and defense will put us over the top.
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

My bad, I had absolutely no idea the deadline for this was already. I thought it was much later in the day.

Will be up in a bit.

Butler (26)/Roberson (8)/Barry (6)
George (37)/Barry (11)
McAdoo (37)/Butler (11)
Horford (30)/Chandler (18)

Alrighty, lets do this.

I think I've got one of the most talented teams in this game. Laimbeer says "he doesn't see much of a talent gap" and I disagree. I'd take my top guys over his any day of the week and twice on Sunday, and I don't think he makes up any ground in fit either.

I've got a defensive group full of all stars around an MVP level Bob McAdoo, who was the original stretch star bigman. Horford covers for him defensively while providing space for him offensively (though McAdoo was a great ranged player in his own right.

Paul George and Jimmy Butler is the best wing combination in this game, and Butler shares ball handling abilities with Jason Kidd, who in 2010 was still an all star level talent who had by this point added a reliable 3 point shot to his arsenal in addition to great pick and roll abilities. His two man game with McAdoo will be money in this matchup- akin to Kidd/Dirk in real life.

My defense has no actionable weaknesses, and I really don't see a particularly reliable go-to scorer on Laimbeer's team either. Young Ewing wasn't at that level at this point, and Gary Payton had issues as a go-to scorer in the playoffs as well. I'd say the two best go-to scorers in this series both play for my team, and that I've got more defense as well.

Heck, with Chandler and Barry, I'd argue that the bench edge goes to me in addition to this.
