A 3 point shooting coach for Wagner would've been a lot cheaper

Dallas got AD….

I'll concede when AD plays most of a season. Until then, they got a lesser version of Embiid.

Yeah that's the problem. From Mavs fans perspective, AD played very limited amount of games and already got injured twice !!!! And the thing is, he also shouldn't have been brought back from his first injury with the Lakers.

Also like it for the Grizzlies, who have more ammo to rethink the team around Morant and JJJ.

Pretty much my thinking on it. Orlando didn’t need to use 16 this year, and the 2028/2030 picks are essentially us betting on the fact that we will still be a very good team. Considering that we have Franz and Suggs already locked up, with Paolo soon to follow for the next 5 years at least, I make that bet as well.

Not all first round picks are the same.

who in here is arguing he's a scrub?

I mean if you look by the wording of a lot of the posts lol. Reading around boards someone said they had to look up who he even was.

Now it’s bad. Giving up the Phoenix 1st that could be number 1 next year. wtf are they doing? I know KCP and Cole are bad contracts but still.

I don't think it's that crazy, they basically gave up scrubs to match the contracts and then had to pay the price with the 1sts, plus Bane is a really good player who could become better imo.

That was my thinking as well and plus getting off bad contracts but giving up that Phoenix pick is crazy.

Bane is a seamless fit on this roster and Orlando didn’t give up any of their core players. 4 firsts is a slight overpay but the East is wide open I respect them for going all in. They’re gonna be a scary team next season.

how many teams are good for 5+ years. these type of deals almost always end up with one or two of those picks in the lotto.

With Paolo/Franz Magic should be a first round playoff team for almost a decade. Both of them missed time last season and Magic still made playoffs. Suggs was also hurt.
Now at Bane. I'm guessing they figure they'll be in the playoffs so the picks won't be a in the lottery. Although and injury or two (or three) and who knows.

Bane is a very good SG, but this is Mikal Bridges/Rudy Gobert-level overpay.

I think Bane fits with the Magic system since he isn't a ball-dominant player. The Magic are betting Banchero as the #1 option and Wagner and Bane being 2-3 depending on the day is good enough to make a Pacer-like run to the Finals.

I can't really blame the Magic for making this move, but I don't know how they were convinced they could give up so much.

The issue is, he isn't the type of player to put anybody over the top and it's a cap regulated league.

If the this was the MLB, where teams that truly care about winning, can do complete roster transformations in one off-season, this acquisition would be celebrated.

Instead, it's stupid.

The Magic could go get Gary Trent or some other reclamation 3pt gunner and stick them in the corner and tell them to shoot 10 3s a game.

The issue the Magic have is a matter of coaching emphasis and team building philosophy.

The Magic are a slow grind it out team and therefore their 3s are contested and self-generated shots. They don't have point guard play. They draft big players that can guard multiple positions but can't shoot.

Desmond Bane doesn't fix any of this. Having an actual PG and running in transition, getting a couple of 3 points gunners do.

Desmond Bane was drafted as 30th pick. He’s talented yes, but Grizzlies just flipped him for 4 FRPs and a pick swap. Jesus. The Magic must’ve really wanted him to the point the Grizzlies could not say no.

who in here is arguing he's a scrub?

He certainly isn't by any means.

He's about as good as you can be without being an all-star.

4 unprotected 1sts though? Yeesh.

They need to advance far in the play offs in multiple years for this trade to have been worth it. Worked out for Minnesota and Gobert. The value returned on that trade was sky high for Minnesota. Hopefully it works out for Orlando. I like rooting for smaller market teams!@

Next year seems pretty unlikely to me. It will probably be a late lottery pick though. The league isn’t going to rig the draft for Memphis.

grizz now have pope's 22 mil, cole's expiring 13 mil and clarke's 12.5 mil along with a ton of picks to trade for a star player if the opportunity comes up.

i mean they could offer jjj + cole plus picks for giannis when he hits the market.

If it gives us a chance to get to the ECF (plus adding a cheap point guard on the roster). I'd gladly pay that. Everybody made so much stink about the Timberwolves overpay but the Jazz haven't done anything with those picks and Minnesota has been competitive.

Yes, maybe a diff haul those picks could've been even better but it would've costed us Suggs or Franz.

Feels like an overpay but at the same time if Orlando can keep Wagner, Bane and Banchero together, those picks aren't going to be that great. That core is still very young. Bane is the perfect fit on paper too. Orlando has plenty of length even with Bane and desperately needed a shooter with gravity.

The biggest question here is if Bane can stay on the court.

This opens the door wide open for Walter Clayton jr at 25. Now they need to flip AB for a good shooter like Duncan Robinson and they are contenders.
