This is a terrible trade for both sides.

This is why I hate the cap. If the cap didn't exist, this trade wouldn't happen.

Memphis blew their team up when they traded for freaking Marcus Smart.

They spent a 1st rounder to get him, sent Jake Lavaria to get rid of him. Need draft picks to make more moves, sold off Desmond for a ransom but the team is nowhere near contending.

All of this is dumb.

It’s great for Memphis. No way a player of Bane’s quality should get that much money.

Bane is a scrub here according to people lol, the worst shooting team in the league def can't use 22/5/5 on 48/40/90 and volume

(not arguing the value, it's a LOT - just the perception of Bane changing suddenly.)

Bane is a very good SG, but this is Mikal Bridges/Rudy Gobert-level overpay.

I think Bane fits with the Magic system since he isn't a ball-dominant player. The Magic are betting Banchero as the #1 option and Wagner and Bane being 2-3 depending on the day is good enough to make a Pacer-like run to the Finals.

I can't really blame the Magic for making this move, but I don't know how they were convinced they could give up so much.

gobert at least changed the identity of the entire team. absolute elite defender.

bridges and bane are good role players that fit but wont give that same level of gobert impact. in fact, knicks defense got worse this year.

I guess Magic figure with Franz and Paolo they are atleast first round playoff team for almost the next decade so no lottery picks? They're also going to have three guys making $35 million plus next year. Paolo still on his rookie deal.

Bane $36.7 mil
Paolo only at $15 mil

I’m okay with the 4 firsts but unprotected is another. We are in a league where this type of deal was reserved for superstar 1a/1b type of players is now norm for 3rd options. I guess for superstar you include 4 swaps as well lol

I wouldn't mind all the picks if this made the Magic a legit contender, but I think they are still a couple pieces away and now they've used up their best non-core trade assets. I suppose the core is quite young though and they are counting on internal development.

Even with the multiple pick price, I’m still 100% sold on this from an Orlando POV. An area we are in absolutely desperate need of, whilst keeping hold of our core 3 guys, and still having picks to utilize in the future.

Four firsts on the basis seems a lot, but one of them is our pick in this years draft, which we would otherwise presumably be using on a guy who isn't going to be seeing much time on the floor, and 2 of them are in 2028/2030 where we would still (hypothetically) have Franz/Paolo playing at a super high level.

Completely understand as to why some may balk at the “four firsts” headline but I think this is an excellent move. Maybe I’m just delighted that we finally made a trade. Who knows?
