I would say you can make the argument that Bane is a slightly better player he's not significant better. They basically have identical offensive EFF career wise.

Bane value is that he is a much more potent 3 pt shooting and better secondary playmaking. I would say Mikal is a better finisher and mid range and the better more versatile defender.

I get why ORL did it. They really needed 3 pt shooting because Franz can't shoot and Banchero isn't an elite shoot as well. They needed someone to stretch the defense and he is a pretty solid defender as well.

That PHX unprotected pick is kinda juicy though. If they don't get a really good deal for Durant PHX is a lottery team in the qeest. The. They get 2028 and 2030 from ORL as well.

The pick package sure is better.

Good perspective. Now is this the precursor to a reshuffling or a rebuild? Really wonder what this says about the JJJ situation. You could argue Bane bye bye opens up door for Bridges to replace him at the 2-3. Pope isnt really some stud for that spot and Cole is a 1 mainly. Mitch/Bridges for JJJ/Clarke or something...

Mikal and Mitch for Jjj soon folksssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is it a teardown? Or a re-shuffling? I dunno but that offense they want to run now might run better with Bridges or do we convert Bridges into picks and then trade for JJJ? Before making that deal they probably had a very strong inkling of where they stand with JJJ.

There were rumors all season they don’t want To pay Jjj is upcoming extension so i can definitely see them moving off him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

if they put JJJ on the market, they would get significantly more than that.

Bane is a significantly better player. Super efficient and he’s 10x the playmaker Mikal is. Not even a bane fan but I’d rather overpay for him than Mikal every day.

Exactly

Mikal is probably worth 2 picks at most now.

If your trying to make KAT work long term JJJ would be a pretty ideal fit next to him. JJJ weakness is rebounding which KAT is great at JJJ provides really nice rim protection and is a legit enough threat from deep to keep defense honest.

I don't know what package they would be looking for Mikal or OG but Mikal would put them in same situation as JJJ with a guy approaching FA. Unless a 3rd team gets involved to get Memphis more picks.

JJJ is the guy that stuck out to me most for months. It just seems to line up. Obviously anything can happen but we shall soon find out. Maybe a Hart/Bridges or Bridges/Mitch kinda deal. A Hart /Bridges combo really helps the Bane loss.

I agree on JJJ being the ideal counter-balance to KAT. Maybe even moreso than a Goebert was in Minny.

Bridges contract probably won't be as expensive as JJJ. And Bridges is a pretty high level 2 way player.

Do you think JJJ rebounding numbers have more to do with them playing him more often on the perimeter though?

god shammgod wrote:by the way, jjj is not a center. he's a great roaming help defender and shot blocker but having to protect the paint full time, box out and rebound is not something he's actually good at. and next to kat you'd want him to do that.

I actually think he fits well next to Kat as the roaming help defender. Kat can do fine boxing out and rebounding it's the rim protection that's an issue. Same with a guy like Bam.

JJJ has never been a good rebounder even in college. Doesn't really have a noise for it. It why he can only play center in shorter sports because he never has been a strong rebounder but if hes playing his minutes with KAT and Hart some other times that would cover up his main weakness. But his strengths with our group are enticing.

unfortunately, yeah. he'd have to try to force his way here, but JJJ doesn't seem like he would. pretty quiet, low-key player

teams like Spurs or Rockets could easily beat whatever Knicks can offer

JJJ can not defend centers, doesn’t box out, doesn’t rebound and is another guy who needs shots. It’s great value for mikal, which is why it won’t happen, but it doesn’t actually fix anything.

Any lineup that still has Kat at center is the wrong lineup. How much more evidence is needed.

Excellent insight thanks! It does really make him a great counterbalance to KAT though. Whatever few weaknesses one guy has its the others strength. Of course plenty of shared strengths as well.

Let the Trade Machine begin!!! Here is one possible permutation.....

It doesnt have to but it might....the concept of what a trade without him is still evident...just remove DDV and have a third team take a smaller salary while giving them minor 2nd round draft comp to counterbalance CBA rules.
