Bane is a much better defender, but that is somewhat offset by Poole's superior ball-handling and ability to run primary PnR actions. Also, Bane's price tag is pretty darn steep. He is making $40M a year over the next 4 years, which is going to make it hard for Orlando to keep enough talent around their core.
Bane reminds me a bit of Beal in that he is a very good player, but not quite good enough to be paid a max salary. If Bane is your second-best guy, you are a first round exit. And if he is your third-best guy, you will probably have salary cap problems.
Bane will be the Magic's 3rd best player, will it be enough?
Agreed - Magic overpaid for Bane, I think it was a bad long-term trade
Poole << Bane (opinion)
Pool doesn't move Orlando forward, IMO
Magic trading for Poole wouldn't be a good move either, IMO
As far as Poole goes, the competition was Simons. I think that the Magic just didn't want to with one-way players (opinion with no fact). They have one of the best defenses in the league and wanted to build on that. They see Suggs/Bane as a good fit. Are they right?
