I know it won't happen, but I REALLY hope teams stop wearing Black uni's all the time... The color Black has completely taken over NBA branding over the past 5 years for whatever reason and it's really dumb and played out. There isn't a single team that doesn't have Black uniforms anymore. Literally not one. And many of them have Black on their courts now as well. A lot of these teams wear Black uni's more than their own team colors now despite it not being their primary color. The Utah Jazz look like the Sacramento Kings now because they decided to make Black a primary color along with their Purple. Their court is black now too. Even the freakin' Lakers chucked their iconic Purple & Gold color scheme and covered their Road Uni's in Black now, along with their court. This newfound obsession with the color Black makes absolutely no sense and is ruining the entire idea of both team identity and brand recognition.

I despise the Celtics black jersey. The Celtics green jersey is one of the most iconic jersey colors in all of sports.

Based on our branding this year id put money on us going to purple again.

The court with the VC Raptor logo is fire.

They do, they have some of the worst branding in sports.

Logo looks like it was drawn by a preschooler.

The multiple jerseys/no team colors is basically an NBA thing not an American sports thing.

You don't see it nearly as much in the NFL. When teams change color it is just flipping the base for the trim. The vast majority of teams wear similar jerseys for decades before changing it up. I don't follow baseball as closely as I used too but the colors there didn't change much for most teams and some teams never change them at all. I'm not a hockey fan but my late father was. I browsed some NHL pictures from this year and most teams wear the colors they did when I followed the sport with my dad.

Outside the NBA, the only team that has the NBA approach to colors is the Oregon Ducks (college with a very high level sports program).

The culture of rapidly changing colors is very much an NBA thing. And it is very short-sighted. The NBA struggles with the fact a high percentage of basketball fans are player not team fans. On the margin changing colors every damn year accentuates this problem. The reason companies that sell consumer products rarely change their branding is because they want consumers to get used to the brand and identify with it. Since the NBA changes colors every year that weakens team identification in a sport that already has weak team identification.

It sucks that Lebron's Cavs changed their jerseys so much because if they wore the same colors during the entire run a Cavs jersey would be iconic. Instead there really isn't one Cavs Lebron jersey.

The NBA just doesn't care. And I think it is because they want to cater to jersey collectors who want to buy every jersey of their favorite player.

I'm fine with flipping colors home-road white. I just wish the NBA would be consistent and make it a formal rule (while giving the Lakers an exception).

No, I didn't think it was American thing, I dont follow other American sports, but I figured they don't do this. This has been Adam Silver and Nike thing. To be honest, I always found weird that American teams stuck with their unis for years, I mean its good, but it felt like they are leaving money on the floor, and Silver figured that one out. It is one of those things that changed under new commissioner, and is only there to squeeze even more money from fans. Same how NBA timeouts are now just longer than before, it sucks.

Euro teams from what I know, in both Basketball and Soccer always change their uniforms every year. But the thing is, they always look very very similar than before, so you can go to Panathinaikos game as Panathinaikos fan and have 30 year old jersey on, and you will still blend in just fine. To me, season openers in Europe are exiting, because I get to see new uniforms (if I do not follow media days/ reveales etc.), but yeah, it is tradition, but it also always felt like they really trying to sell you new jerseys every year, and it was weird that American leagues, that are all about making money, weren't doing that before.

I'd be totally fine with the soccer thing you describe above. Slight alterations every year to sell jersey but keeping the same basic schemes so the team looks the same. I'll use a baseball team as example. The Yankees have one of the most famous jersey in America. They are even known by their jersey with fans calling them the pinstripes.

Image

Slight alterations to the pinstripe size, moderation of the colors, changing the emblem size would be totally fine. As you said in Euro soccer leagues if you own a 2002 jersey and kept it in condition it works fine in 2025.

And I'm okay with leagues going for revenue. This is a for-profit business.

But the Nike-Silver system of no-team colors just sucks totally. I go back to Lebron and Cleveland because it is the one that pisses me off the most. Why couldn't the Cavs have uniform a color scheme?

I think Cleveland would've stuck with one if LeBron never left

Well there's new uni news..........

According to multiple sources, the Orlando Magic will unveil new logos and uniforms this summer, marking the first significant update to their primary look since the 2008-09 season.
The sources indicated the redesign will effectively blend their original 1989-98 look – including pinstripes and classic trim on the jersey and shorts – with a modernized wordmark and number font.

And Detroit revealed their city edition uni

I wish we'd go back to using the 80s jerseys when the crown dotted the i in kings but instead of those God awful baby blue unis we could use slightly lighter purple than current.

uniform rebrands in the nba is more like a retro rehash

some teams need to rebrand like for real - like the jazz should change their name, and memphis too. neither city has been successful enough that either should care if there was a name change

they should just switch names but that would be confusing as hell

Shouldn't Houston redesign their uniforms with KD coming into the fold?

Might be a good time for rebranding for them considering how ugly their uniforms are. Even their statement/city uniforms are ugly. Bring back the pinstripes?
