It does deserve a thread since AKME isn't shy about pulling the trigger. He is a "Never say Never" guy unless it's a rebuild.

What would be the point of trading Vuc + eitther Matas or Giddey + 12th pick and future draft capital for JJJ?

Actually if the 1st you get for Vuc plus another expiring to make salaries match is the 1st domino. We have tonos of expiring and in this scenario JJJ becomes your rim protecting 5.
Many other moves would follow but it's improbable, not impossible.

I don’t think they are rebuilding. I think they know they don’t have enough and want the picks for future trades or to add cheap role players.

My guess this is just a reformulation around the same core, not the beginning of blowing it up this summer.

Grizzles re-tool not rebuild. If they lose JJJ i would still even say maybe. They have a lot of big talented players

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

Four first round picks and a swap is too steep of a price to pay for Bane. JJJ would probably cost more.

I think Ja is actually the guy to watch. And he might be less than Bane. JJJ is going to cost way too much. The Bulls can't afford.

Its going to cost a lot to get him. Bulls wont just throw some expiring contracts and filler + a few draft picks. If JJJ is your best player not sure where that gets you.

Maybe the off the court stuff lessons his value but i still think he would be the harder of the two to get.

I remember hearing that MEM didn't want to keep ONE of their big 3 for financial reasons. I thought Ja might be the one to go, but Bane makes sense. They certainly stocked the asset cupboards with that deal and could try to find 2 slightly less good assets to fill holes for less money. They are definitely positioning themselves to keep JJJ and Ja.

We couldn't afford him nor are we at a point to go all in for him.

I'm still trying to understand how he yielded 4 FRPs. Surely they were non-lotto or had some contingencies?

Don't think it's a rebuild, they're acquiring picks because they're the easiest type of currency. One of the picks is for the draft coming up so they had to pull the trigger now vs in FA where more trades happen.

And that's such a crazy overpay for Bane that even if you are fully intending to go for the playoffs, you take that deal and figure out the rest later.

Depends on what the cost is. I agree, it probably isn't going to be a good deal, and I wouldn't do the deal you mentioned either.

That said, JJJ is a perfect center complement to Giddey which is going to be hard to find. If you could do one of our expiring deals + #12 + future 1st unprotected for JJJ then I could see us doing that as a avoid a rebuild type trade and wouldn't totally hate it given our present position.

That said, to your point, probably going to be too expensive to make sense.

The best pick is 16 Orlando's this year, the rest will be lower most likely. The Phoenix pick is interesting because we don't know what they'll get back for KD. The rest are Orlando's and assumedly they'll always be a playoff team.

i think this was a “holy **** they’re offering us this package for desmond bane?” trade as opposed to a rebuilding move

They were looking to "dump" 1 of the 3 (JJJ, JM, Bane). That domino fell today. I would guess they have no intention of trading JJJ unless they are blown away by an offer.

I just don't think it'd work but if Memphis is blowing it up
#12/Port pick/2027 unprotected 1st/Vuc

We go with
White/Ayo
Giddey/Ball
Matas/Huerter
JJJ/PWill
Collins/JSmith
Carter/Terry/Phillips as deep bench

Memphis goes with a rebuild and moves Ja too

But I don't think that's enough-and we shouldn't do more

I agree, which is why I noted "to your point, probably going to be too expensive to make sense". I have no idea if they're looking to go full OKC style rebuild or whether the value on Bane was just too good, could go either way, but even in the first case where they do go full rebuild, someone else probably tops out what I would offer.

This is where I'm at. I'd probably be willing to do this as an extension of the direction we're going in, but I still wouldn't love the direction, and it's probably not enough.
