BREAKING: Magic acquire Desmond Bane (KCP, Cole + 4 1st Round Picks + 1 1st Round Pick Swap)

Man…the more I look, the more I’m seeing that Bane is a much more complete player than I realized. His playmaking, driving & finishing are far more advanced and efficient than I assumed. Take a look at Josh Cohen’s video on YouTube…he’s much more than just a spot up 3&D guy. Superb advanced analytics offensively.

Caleb, TdS, maybe even Jett might really emerge as the shot quality improves…lots of draft equity makes me think that Weltman really targeted Bane as a truly suitable piece and did what it took to get him. It will be interesting to see the margin follow up moves coming.

My only fear is a lack of coaching creativity diminishes Bane and Suggs into spot up spectators.

I think coaching creativity potential will be expanded with him here. I truly hope we target a great offensive coach. But as of now... there is a lot of potential. We now have 4 players to stagger between the starting lineup and the bench..... while maintaining or elite defense.

But with the way the EAST will lay out next season.... this was definitely a strike while Irons hot moment.

Only had to give up KCP, Cole and some picks and we got Bane. And the finals aren’t even over!!! Weltman getting in early on this one. No leaks! He never leaks!

I had been pie-in-the-sky wishing we’d land a big name like a Giannis or Booker, but always knew it was bordering fantasy. Yet here we are adding another 20ppg scorer to the squad. Bane is sturdy, reliable and built for big moments - he is going to fit the energy of this team perfectly.

We can make some obvious moves to get under the fiat apron, gain access to the full MLE, and add another difference maker.

Our deep bench is going to be filled by minimum contract players and we need Jett + TDS to step up in the minutes they get but clearly we are pushing our chips into the middle here. This isn’t a developmental roster.

It's not misleading at all? The Magic cannot exceed $207.8M in salary this season, that is a fact.

They're not anywhere close to that number, nor will they be, but it's a factual statement.

Also...

If they use their MLE, that will hard cap them at the FIRST apron, which is $195.9M. And considering the full MLE is worth $14.1M, things are going to become very tight if they do decide to use the full MLE.

Good thing is (barring injury) this opens up the team to always having Franz/Paolo/Bane/Suggs on the floor, or two at a time at least. We usually had to give both Paolo/Franz a break at the same time around the end of the 1st/early 2nd and then stagger them or play them together a majority of the rest of the time, so this pretty much allows the team to keep firepower on the floor often. Will help Paolo's on/off without Franz.

At first glance, the 4FRP seems like a lot for Desmond Bane but that's the price unless we want to acquire player of Banes caliber without giving up Suggs. Half of those picks were the cost of getting rid of KCP. He is a negative and had no trade value. If you want player like Bane, then it would have cost us Suggs and keeping KCP with less picks. Ill gladly get rid of KCP and give up future picks that will likely be late FRP.

I don't think many realize how perfect fit Bane is for us. Him and Suggs are going to be a top east backcourt.

I do not think so I think we will see this.

TDS, Caleb, Jett will compete for that last spot which I think TDS will get the early nod.

I think Schroder will be the guy because of his ties with Franz + Moe.

Whether the Magic win a title or not will ultimately come down to how good Paolo is. This trade improves his supporting cast TREMENDOUSLY. Do they still need a PG? Probably. But the front office feels good with Suggs/Bane/Black handling the backcourt (possibly adding another guard in the draft at #25)...and if Paolo is an elite all nba type player we have enough to compete for a title with that group IMO.

Bane could very well be an all-star next season if Orlando had a top-4 record by ASB.
