Is it an overpay? For sure. If Bane works out (similar stats and impact as the last 4 seasons). Those draft picks end up being non lotto picks. Plus it’s not like ORL’s front office has been killing it with these non top 10 picks.

I think the only pick that hurts them is the Suns pick swap

EDIT: I can’t tell, is RGMs twitter embed broken or just on mobile it’s not showing?

Trash logic. Ridiculous. Still an absurd overpay.

No guarantees Paolo and/or Franz stay healthy or are even with the team that far out.

KCP’s deal is only 2 more years, and that’s with a player option. He’ll surely be hoping to get a longer term deal with someone if he can.

There’s no guarantees any player stays healthy. That’s also trash logic if you’re going off that.

Paolo, Franz, Suggs all suffered serious injuries and the Magic only recieved the #16th pick.

Of Franz/Paolo aren’t with the team that means the Magic traded them and most likely received a historic amount of draft capital.

What are odds all four of those guys are on the team in 2030?

Why would you worry about all 4 of the guys being on the team in over 4 years exactly? Like, I get future planning, but if your making it a 5 year plan to compete, your not doing it right. Everything can change in 5 years.

To put it in perspective, 5 years ago Ben Simmons was an All Star. At most, you can plan for 3 years year, 5 is kinda ridiculous

Well, 2030 is four seasons out, and obviously (hopefully?) the team is planning that far out considered they traded that pick unprotected. Your logic applies in that direction too, right?

You, me, Sam Quinn, and anyone can pretend to know what Orlando will be like in 2028 and 2030. Reality is the team could look completely different and be a dumpster fire by then. Poo poo-ing the massive draft capital given up assuming this team stays intact, healthy, and with regular up and to the right growth by its players is a big stretch. Even for a team like OKC, the same can be said.

Things change fast. Look at the Celtics. Surely people were thinking repeat the end of last season. Look at them now.

The tweet is a big dose of copium.

Especially this!

Cole is an expiring and KCP is a nice mid-range contract, which is only 2 more years at most, that is tradable with other assets.

Projecting out where the picks will land at this point is silly.

KCP was a bad contract and I think Cole Anthony makes like 10m a year for two more years. But that is a lot to pay when you don't have a starting PG on the team. Maybe they try to sign Tre Jones? He is a FA and an actual point guard.

I would judge this move depending on how they manage the starting PG slot. If they have the money and can get one in FA then it helps ease that price tag to bring in Bane and get off that KCP deal. I feel like Cole Anthony was fine as a 6th man and had handled his bench role well but I don't follow the Magic.
Even if they do hypothetically sign a PG which $35+ million guard are they bringing off the bench?

Every year fans surprise me with how appalled they are at good teams who just traded themselves into near-contenders giving up first round picks.

Like yeah, the Magic should have kept those picks because one of them could end up being as good as... Desmond Bane? :-?

What do you guys think the point of basketball is? To hoard coinflip low first-round picks? The 20th pick in the draft isn't gonna do jack ish to help Orlando get to the ECF, but Desmond **** Bane might.

Bane is a legit chance now to make the all star in the East with Orlando.its a slight overpay but hardly the highway robbery the Nets got for Mikal Bridges.

Getting rid of KCP and his contract was a bonus

Very similar to the Mikal trade in that they acquired a good player with bad salary. You pay to play that game.

Ok before anythig else... can we clarify something.

The only unprotected first we gave up is/was the 28 and 30 frps. You know when we traded AG 4yrs ago for DEN 25 frp..m we hope DEN wouldve been worse but its still pick 25. And DEN got q championship out of AG.

The other frp is this year at 16. And lastly.. the PHO pick swap which wr gotten by trading 3 srps... its WAS top 8 protected... someone clarify for me. That means we cant get higher than 8 because if it is... WAS keeps it and PHO cant swap???

NBA fans will have you thinking every first round pick is 2008 Derrick Rose. Like what the hell is Orlando gonna do with 4 dudes drafted in the low 20s?

This isn't the MJ Bobcats trading first rounders. You mf'ers really out here curving Desmond Bane so you can draft Dalton Knecht.

Think.

Orlando has paid many millions in guaranteed money to the first round picks they missed on. Sometimes, a franchise needs to grow up, and the front office is maturing.

They acquired a dependable talent that has yet to reach his ceiling. Removing bad salary from their payroll cost them dearly, tho.

Memphis has something planned and it's going to get interesting.

The problem happens when teams mortgage their future on bad gambles. Older players, bad fits, wild speculation on young players. Or when a team isn't in position to make an all in move. Bane is a known quantity and still in early prime. Magic did well.

It’s actually a good deal cause they will loan him out to Universal Orlando Jurassic Park during the off-season.

Your whole GB fanbase cursed me out when I said KCP wouldn't be **** on the Magic. You already had players who did his job and better than he does, and I'm glad Orlando saw that and moved on because I like the team.
