Very ironic people say they will be all late firsts but bane was a 30th pick. Lol.

Yet in all likelihood none of the picks will end up being a better player than Bane.

Why doesn't it? Maybe not now but they are likely anticipating one or both Wagz/Paolo make a jump.

If that happens then yes, they are contenders. The Magic were already one of the teams on the look out to break out next year. So by going with that upside, you then add an what will be an elite 3rd option then, if all goes right - that is a contender.

Im amazed that some people here is saying this is a good deal on the assumption that DESMOND BANE is worth it. Magic made a mistake.

What? Davis is an all star and Cooper is "the #1.pick". How many of those ORL picks going to be #1 in first round with a clear #1 choice

The #1 was their own pick and not formally part of the trade, depending on what conspiracies you may or may not subscribe to

Personally like it. Small market team having a swing

Magic have a solid core, address a glaring weakness, still have enough flexibility to make some moves.

East is wide open with Boston's immediate future uncertain, Cavs not able to make the leap, Knicks without a coach.

Good, brave call.

Like yeah, the Magic should have kept those picks because one of them could end up being as good as... Desmond Bane? :-?

What do you guys think the point of basketball is? To hoard coinflip low first-round picks? The 20th pick in the draft isn't gonna do jack ish to help Orlando get to the ECF, but Desmond **** Bane might.

Agreed.

Most fans can’t relate to players bc they weren’t anywhere near as good as them. But people can be smart enough to be in a front office, so they can relate easier to the executives. Superfans like us who post on a Site called Realgm probably have that complex as well. So they look at team building and think of you have a bunch of ‘assets’ you’ll always have a chance to make moves to be better and build a contender. They value picks more than established players bc every pick could turn into a Core All Star and on smaller contracts that’s how you supposedly build a team that can contend for years to come.

What people can’t seem to get their heads around is that Orlando has already done that. They have two REALLY good young guys in Franz and Pablo that they got high in the lottery. Their picks are never going to be high in the lottery again if those guys are healthy. They have to hope they strike it big with late firsts and find another Bane, who they’ll have to wait three or four years to turn into that player. Getting him now, already signed long term, with his prime years ahead is very valuable. Losing the Suns pick hurts but there’s no guarantee they’ll be bad either, especially since they have no reason to tank for other teams. Like the Rams, man f*** them picks! They’re going for it now, and I tip my hat to every team hustling hard to win a chip.

This isn't the MJ Bobcats trading first rounders. You mf'ers really out here curving Desmond Bane so you can draft Dalton Knecht.

Think.

Always a winning strategy to give out unprotected firsts for non all stars.

Orlando gonna cap themselves out and hinder their ability to trade picks for future upgrades.

Just an all around dumb trade.

That's a dumb oversimplification of it but here we are. As a Grizz fan, i like it but not to say the Magic were completely hosed since their timeline is now (and next 4-5 years) especially with an open Eastern Conference.

Yeah you don't get how cap works and what orlando needs.

Orlando has 8 FRP in the next 7 drafts. Two alone this draft. We are not bringing in TWO rookies next season. This is the offseason to make moves and start unloading some of those picks for now impact players.

Trade value based on "all star" title is stupid. Desmond Bane has been putting numbers the last 3 years better then some players in the all star game this year (Herro, Garland, Jdub). He is everything Orlando needs, AND we were able to keep Suggs?!? ANy trade for a "all star" like Trae Young(inflated contract) would cost Orlando Jalen Suggs and that is something we're not willing to do.

Orlando had two ways to improve the roster. Give up Suggs and minimal picks for an upgrade backcourt player or keep their trio intact and use the plethora of picks we have. The front office believes in this young trio and has now added Bane for shooting, playmaking, and offensive punch.

Read beyond the headlines. This is a no brainer for Orlando. I had no idea bane was even available.

Bane is an All-Star caliber player who put up 19/6/5 while shooting 48%/39%/89%. That's why this trade is so great for Orlando.
