Not all 1sts are valued the same. Of the 4 1sts that the grizz got only 1 may be expected to be in the lottery (suns 26 pick). Orlando had plenty of games missing paolo/franz/suggs this year and still made the playoffs comfortably. Late 1sts are clearly devalued in the nil draft era.

it was never the option - 13m for someone who cant finish the game nor providing any shooting is crazy. i doubt we give him more than 5.

We couldn't even offer him 13m/year. He was never a real option.

Didn't say GS would offer him that much, but with his recent injury history I thought he may drop in price. Although he can't shoot from the outside, he can set a hell of a pick to help the 3pt shooters get open.

Absolutely, but getting more cracks at grabbing a talent after the lottery is a good thing and it is still possible to get a really good player (with luck). While following the Heat in the 2020 draft the posters on realgm really pushed for Miami to draft Maxey but instead took Precious Achiuwa (who never played a minute with Bam his whole rookie season) with Maxey, Bane and Quickly still available. All 3 of those players were good enough to get pretty big 2nd contracts which you hope happens picking that low in the draft. Everyone hits and misses in the draft with some teams missing way more than they should.

Yea he'd be a great add but there was no way to actually obtain him. It's like saying Wemby would be a great add, which is like yea but there's no way to actually obtain him. So it's just not something to be worried about or complaining that the front office didn't try to get him.

I'm talking about fringe 1st round talents are choosing to go back to school and taking the guaranteed money from nil which is reducing the talent pool in the first round. It's going be harder and harder to find diamond in the roughs with a shrinking talent pool. Like 4 1sts sounds like a lot, but if we're under the assumption that these late 1sts have less value, it's probably not too bad of an overpay especially since they got to dump contracts on top of it. The only 1st that is likely to be a lottery pick is the 26 phx pick. The Magic had terrible injury luck this year and still comfortably made the playoffs and their core is extremely young.

But yes a 1st is still currency for hope for the future. Guess you can say it's inflation causing late firsts to be worth less moving forward.

they also had to attach picks to get rid of KCP's bad contracts. it's really like 2.5 late FPRs

Let me ask the board this. Would we trade 2 of our picks in any year '28-32 for the 4 picks Memphis just got? I would not. As onus said, the only pick taht looks like it will be in the lottery is PHX next year. That said, PHX is still likely to have booker, beal, and a decent haul from KD so I doubt that pick is anything above 8-12. Could they jump up to 1st like DAL/ATL did last 2 years? Sure. I wouldn't take those odds.

I'm sorry but that seems like an overpay. I don't think he was getting anything close to that until a few good games in round 1 against a hobbled warriors team. If jimmy doesn't get hurt and we win in 5, does he get much more than the vet min? That's even before you get to the health concerns

Pretty sure KD is trying to tank his value to get moved back to GSW. Spurs are holding assets for Giannis. Aside from Houston there isnt another fit basketball-wise. Warriors will have to be willing to trade Draymond obviously.. will they.. guess we'll find out but I think KD will be a Warrior again.

Last week I was trying to figure this out, my understanding is we’d need to use the returning salary in a JK S&T (to another team), plus draymond plus moody and Hield to get this done . Seems like a lot of moving pieces but im here for it.

Heat interested in Kuminga and Heat fans despise wiggins. S&T either now or in December.

Sign aldama.

Steph/podz
Wiggs/heild
Jimmy/moody
Dray/santos
Aldama/loon

I could go to war with that

Im lazy to figure out the cap numbers but pretty sure w’s need to give Aldama at least the full MLE, so that hardcaps w’s at the first apron. Do the dubs have enough capspace to bring wiggins in in a JK S&T? (Would almost certainly need to add Moody or Hield).

In December, I believe we can straight up wiggs for kuminga (depending on what he gets as an extension).

Not saying im right cause i really am lazy to figure out the cap situation, but for some reason I thought we wouldnt be far enough under the 1st apron to use the full mle AND resign JK to ~24m.

Pretty sure it would be something like KD, Cody Martin > Warriors; Dray, Hield> DET, Kuminga, Moody, Podz, Pick<PHX, Stewart > PHX

Phx cant take JK in a S&T unless they get under the 1st apron (they gotta cut a bunch of salary to do that).
Think Phx owner (michigan state alum) loves Green so i could see phx wanting Green and the 3rd team (detroit in your scenario) getting JK.

Wiggins salary plus full MLE puts us well over 1st apron… so like you said, lots of other salary would have to be sent out.

My main offseason plan gives an example of how hard it will be to stay under 1st apron if we keep Kuminga (or swap him for anything over 10m):

- Kuminga at 20m or less starting salary (which seems on low end based on supposed experts projections)
- use the TPMLE thats just under 6m
- use 3 vet minimums (or even 2 vet min and a late 1st if we trade in)

Just that is putting us over the 1st apron and right up against the 2nd apron (which we’d be capped at using the TPMLE)

This is why I think if nobody offers over 21m or so for Kuminga we will just keep him for that amount, get some 3/D guys with the TPMLE and vet mins, and run it back with a very solid team.
