i'd say the spirit of what we are going for is to not have the coaching search thread be derailed into the same arguing over thibs we see elsewhere and have had a dedicated thread for most of the season (including now). it's hard to talk about the search when you have to sift through "whatever, thibs sucks" or "thibs was so good. y'all trippin" for most of the posts (and often from the same agenda driven/trolling folks).

as for GONYK's post, i get the confusion or concern. but i'd say it's still about the coaching search that thibs is tied to and his read as a mod on behavior surrounding it.

and i'd say there are plenty examples of more in-scope thibs mentions in that thread. like, it makes sense to discuss differences and similarities to thibs. comparative characteristics to the next coach. but when that turns more into thibs being the subject, we have a place for that and have for most of the season.

there's both art and science to what we have to do. it's not always cut and dry and we have to do some gleaning of intention and reflect on post history to make some decisions.

i hope that's helpful.

i think it's still a little too blurry as to what is ok and what isn't for me personally. but fine. now here's the real question, did thibs out coach mazulla in the boston series ? you know he did

you know damn well i think he did. and you know damn well...

nope. i'mma leave it there.

But he didn't.

i just don't think what they're doing now is realistic. in around the nba during game 4 of the finals, obi played well during the game and there were tons of posts of people mad at thibs and blaming him for obi not being here. which wasn't even thibs decision to begin with but never mind that. isn't this technically off topic and derailing ? thibs certainly has nothing do with that game. but people are gonna bring that up. it's connected. i don't think you can regulate human nature in this way.

that was addressed too. we not generally gonna share how because sometimes that has to do with longstanding things being followed in folks' profiles. sometimes those conversations spill out into the public, usually when the posters in the center of it take it there and make it stuff we then need to publicly address. (like what happened recently with homeboy.)

but heard and understood. it's not an easy situation for the mod team and we're trying to level set so everyone does understand what we mean and tries to adopt a generally more respectful and productive tone.

as far as regulating human nature, you right. we can't do that. we don't want to. but there's unfortunately a human component to reading tone and managing conversations. mod team is taking a more active role in shaping that here.

we hope having a hamsterdam as a safe place for folks to blow off steam reflects just that. we know you're human and need to be. but we also want to make conversations manageable.
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

in a discussion about the new coach, it's natural that the old coach is brought up before he's even hired. in fact, he's gonna be linked to thibs forever and that comparison will continue for his entire tenure. it's a natural point of discussion. the idea that a thread should be so regimented that a natural discussion point shouldn't be introduced is bizarre. and nobody can follow these rules. go look in the coaching search thread and see how many time thibs is brought up. here's a mod bringing thibs up unprovoked -

I can speak to it directly.

I understand the confusion reading it back now, but it was a genuinely open musing. When discussing coaches in the thread, people are making their cases based on perceived X's and O's acumen, past playoff performance, player relationships, etc... and almost every coach is coming up lacking on some front. There is no perfect coach.

So I was literally just saying that I wonder where Thibs would have fallen on the scale of judgment. Maybe there's some perspective to be taken from that or not, but I wasn't inviting a debate of Thibs vs. Taylor Jenkins or whatever and would have course corrected if my post took things in that direction.

When the season begins every play will be compared to what Thibs would have done especially if the team is doing well.

If the team is underperforming I assume all mentions of Thibs will be banned lol

and by the time the season rolls around we'll hopefully have had a good offseason of playing nicely together and modeling good faith conversations. we'll see.

we should be in a better place on both sides of that conversation if folks stop lobbing hot take grenades and trying to provoke each other.

that is the hope. We know we are moderating a bit more "tightly" but we will hopefully get back to a good spot when the new year is approaching.

In all seriousness, I hesitated talking about the mikal trade in comparison with the bane trade in the around thread. Eventually decided I couldnt pass up the opportunity to take a shot at mp's boy. The game is the game. New rules or not I cant let mp and his boy slide by. We have a standard around here thst needs to be upheld and cant let rules get in the way. Also its a knicks forum and discussing similar trades should be allowed.

i will say in earnest that i probably transitioned from lurker to poster because of the interpersonal character dynamics and storylines more than a need to talk and hear basketball ideas from laymen. otherwise i'd just continue reading news updates silently

lol. let's be clear, i aint bringing things up for anyone to get suspended. just the opposite, i'm pointing out that this is normal and everyone does it. i guess the question is, if all the regular posters operate in a way that goes against the rules (and let's face it, we do), then who are they for exactly ?

Same, I came here from a dry dusty knicks forum that only wanted to discuss stats. Sht was boring af. Not that im completely against it. I like the diversity here. And get what the mods are trying to do. And frankly good luck. Theyre trying to tame cats right now.

Buuuuut if sht gets real tight - we are all suspended come gamethread time. And I cant wait until mp trashes OG the first time to deflect off mikal. ill smash that report button like Im wielding the hammer of god.

See the difference is I like OG and consider him very valuable but both players played really good defense in the playoffs with poor EFF but you flirting with OG over similar production you're calling harassment on Mikal!
