Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
It's really hard to want to bring back players like Prince who need to be used the right way when Doc has no ****ing clue how to use them the right way.
Having checked, Prince played 66% of his minutes at the 3. But he just couldn't perform in the playoffs. On a min, sure, to eat minutes. But he can't play in the playoffs.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
Prince is a good stand-still play finisher from outside, but he also has terrible feet defensively for a guy his size.
You gotta try to bring in guys who you believe can grow into something more than what they’ve been. Prince will absolutely not do that. He is what he is.
Look at Memphis. They’re probably the best org at unearthing talent, or at least in that upper group. They found Vince Williams and Scottie Pippen jr, as complete afterthoughts and turned them into pretty good, useful players.
You gotta go that route, too, and hope you don’t end up with a Semi again.

Do it for Wiggins, and keep Trent.
I would rather have Wiggins too but keeping Trent would be over doing it at the SG position. I don't think Wiggins at the 3 is great defensively and I'd rather have Trent Jr over Wiggins or Joe.
I think Pat to a 3rd team for Okoro is the better trade if the Bucks can keep Trent Jr.
I like Okoro too, but I see nothing that prevents Wiggins from being the SF. He has a 8'7" standing reach, which is longer than Okoro.
Also, Trent defended SFs a bunch last year, and that's probably his best fit, other than his allergy to rebounding.
It's not just about the reach, it's more about strength. The only guard that has the strength to play with the elite SFs would be Green and he lacks athleticism.
Okoro in a Lu Dort role at the 3 would fit this team better. A simple 3 team trade with Cleveland and Uta
Mil - Okoro & Martin
Cle - Livingston or Jackson Jr
Uta - Pat
It's not sexy but it's a buy low move to bring in young athletic players that has shown some promise.

I don’t think it’s possible to Doc-proof the roster, he’ll find a way. Prince at the minimum is fine, Bucks need as many 40% shooters from deep as possible. There really is no excuse for Doc playing him at the 2, that’s a Doc problem and there is a simple solution to that.

Is Dennis Schroeder a FA? Yeah, I’d actually target that guy to sign. Wouldn’t have said that a couple years ago.

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
What kind of contracts could we even offer to our FA guys this offseason? It’s going to be near impossible to keep any of them right? Genuinely asking because this CBA made an already complex topic even harder to keep up with.

I think we’re at 167.8m right now with 10 guys under contract, so there’s 28m in room under the 1st apron (which would allow us to offer the full MLE (14m), and BAE (5m)). We also have a 7.2m TPE.
Jim O was reporting that he expects KPJ back, an increasing likelihood that Bobby either opts in or signs a longer contract, and that Trent is likely in that 8-10m range.
If we want to pay Trent 10m, then the most we could offer KPJ is the BAE which could make it difficult to bring back both. We’ll see. That 14m MLE is the single biggest thing we have at our disposal.
Rollins we can offer up to 12.5m, with his early bird rights, but he won’t come anywhere close to that.

Yes and also do all you can to develop the young guys we already have.

Just say no to Taurean Prince. The guy is useless if he isn’t a wide open, stand still shooter. He’s an awful defender as used by Doc on this team. Couldn’t stay in front of any perimeter player league wide when it matters.

What do we think he goes for?
Schröder being linked to the Bucks first started in 2018, when the guard was with the Atlanta Hawks. He told international basketball reporter David Hein that he could see himself playing for the Bucks.
During the summer of 2020, the Bucks were hunting for guard help, and Schröder was a name on the list before trading for Jrue Holiday, reportedly. Leading up to the 2022 NBA Trade Deadline, there were rumors that the Bucks and Celtics were discussing frameworks for a potential deal that would've landed the veteran in Milwaukee.
A larger role could be exactly what Schröder needs. As a full-time starter with Brooklyn to begin last season, he averaged 18.6 points and 6.6 assists while shooting 38.7 percent from deep on 6.5 tries per game. If the Milwaukee Bucks offered him a large role like Brooklyn did, perhaps he could provide that type of production once again.

The Athletic has a Free Agency ranking today and KPJ was listed as a MLE guy, so I guess what the hell do I know?

That said, it's written by Hollinger, he of the "Donte Divincenzo's projected contracted is four years $99 million" (he went for exactly half that amount).

Re: Bucks News, Transactions, Trade Ideas
Lopez deserves more than the nontaxpayer MLE, but getting somebody to pay it to him could prove problematic. The Nets don’t need him, so he’s depending on either Milwaukee’s participation in a sign-and-trade or a strong offer from the Bucks to keep him. (Milwaukee has full Bird rights on Lopez, but his deal cannot be extended.)
If he finds an unfriendly market relative to the BORD$ value above, one thing Lopez could do is a two-year MLE deal for $29 million with a second-year player option that allows him to re-enter free agency a year from now. One thing that seems certain is that he won’t lack for suitors at this price (keep an eye on Houston after the Rockets got to the 1-yard line with him two summers ago), which is why I suspect he’ll be bid up above the MLE and end up either in a sign-and-trade or back with the Bucks.
Lopez is also eligible for a no-trade clause from the Bucks, which makes no sense from Milwaukee’s perspective but would be objectively hilarious.
There are many issues with Porter that don’t involve the basketball court, but BORD$ sees only the basketball court, plus his age (25) and his huge production as a bench catalyst for the Bucks at the end of last season. Porter has a player option for a piddling $2.5 million and will certainly opt out, but once that happens, what's his value?
The Bucks have no Bird rights on Porter; if he opts out, they will need to use exception money to bring him back. Milwaukee might have the $14.1 million nontaxpayer midlevel exception depending on whether Lopez (above), Bobby Portis Jr. (below) and Gary Trent Jr. are back, but it’s also possible the Bucks are limited to the $5.7 million taxpayer exception.
If that’s the case, the Bucks will likely be holding their breath, hoping they can bring back Porter at that price, with a one-year deal with a second-year player option seeming the most plausible scenario.
Portis has a player option for the 2025-26 season.
Portis has a player option for $13,445,754 for the coming season, which he could opt out of to get a deal for the $14.1 million nontaxpayer MLE somewhere else. However, one other intriguing option would be for him to opt in to the final year and then sign a two-year extension off that with a 5 percent raise, taking the total package to $43 million for the three years and nearly matching what’s available on an MLE deal.
The reason for the Bucks to play ball on this is that Portis’ contract would immediately be tradeable if the extension didn’t boost his annual salary by more than 5 percent and didn’t go beyond three years. Additionally, adding in a 15 percent trade kicker would take the amount of the deal, if he ends up getting dealt this summer, to much more than Portis could get on a three-year MLE deal from another team. Thus, both sides would come out ahead in some respects.

FAf rankings should be separated into UFA and RFA. Combining them isn't apples/apples.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

What if any sign-and-trade options do we think will be out there for Brook?
Bucks lack for tradeable salary slots even before we'd get to what assets we'd get in return.
Not like we are overwhelmed with warm bodies to fill out the rotation either if we'd be getting a playable player/s in return.
All that said there's probably a threshold with apron considerations where we'd rather just let Lopez walk as well.

Oooh...
Guess we wouldn't have to worry about the Grizz matching an MLE offer now and being left w/out a chair cuz of that whole 2 day wait. It's not cost-feasible for him to be the 3rd big at that MLE+ # & they want to prioritize JJJ financially. This seems especially plausible now.

The opt in/Trade with Portis makes a lot of sense if they want to keep GTJ and/or KPJ. I would go with keeping all the 27 and under guys.
Also, I wonder who is considered worse KCP or Kuzma? Okay, Kuzma is the worse player but he is younger. Would a side deal switching players make sense if the Bucks think they can't keep Trent Jr ?

In processing all this, I'd prefer the opt-in & keep Portis route because then that $ clears earlier. I think it's ideal to free that up in 2 yrs or ideally after next with some maneuvering.
I might rank it:
1. Naz Reid MLE few yr signing cuz I'd consider him maybe like Brook was in the "core 4".
2. Bobby opt-in for 1 yr, which also preserves the MLE.
3. Aldama for a few yrs.
4. Bobby longer-term, eating into earlier cap space and committing to him into his mid 30's.
We need a big this yr better than Sims & who fits w/ Giannis. That'll take a balancing act. Aldama doesn't come w/out questions. The big one is can he hold off centers in the regular season & could you mismatch him in the postseason? Chet's working well enough, but he's a unicorn. Maybe Santi keeps adding weight, holds up adequately in the regular season, & in the postseason his shooting/handle plays true C's off the floor. Then the Bucks move up in the draft and take Kalkbrenner to body and shoot (some), if Sims can only body & Santi just shoot.

Oh you don’t say? Someone was just talking about not being worried about Memphis matching a deal worth the MLE just earlier today! Hmmmm….
This would be the move to make, you can’t ask for a better fit at the forward spot. This is your cheaper and better Kuzma replacement. Trade Kuzma and Pat for the best wing you can get.

If we do go after Aldama (I would like it), we won't be the only team doing so. But I think Memphis keeps him.
