“Since hiring Leon Rose in 2020, the Knicks' front office has utilized its relationships often for the team's benefit. One example was hiring Jackson Jr.'s father, Jaren Jackson Sr., as an assistant coach for the Westchester G-League affiliate in 2021. From that January to May 2023, the elder Jackson served on Derrick Alston and Rose-favorite DeSagna Diop's staff.
Jackson Jr. is a former Creative Artists Agency client of Rose. The University of the Incarnate Word added Jackson Sr. to their men's basketball staff in 2023, ending his Knicks tenure
Jackson Jr. remains with CAA under agent Austin Brown. The 2023 Defensive Player of the Year has one year remaining of his four-year, $104.7 million contract.
The Knicks' front office has become infamous for its confident approaches to recruiting. It's unlikely that the franchise expected Jackson Jr. to demand a trade because of their sideline addition in Westchester. But sources familiar with the situation tell ClutchPoints that at least one key member of the Knicks' front office has long been interested in Jackson Jr. as a trade target.
The Knicks' acquisition of Karl-Anthony Towns last offseason didn't nullify this interest, either. League sources say that a Jackson Jr. and Karl-Anthony Towns frontcourt would be a ‘dream' pairing for New York in their starting lineup.
Whether or not the Grizzlies would move Jackson Jr. remains to be seen. It presented as unlikely going into the offseason, but the Bane deal with Orlando was ‘a rebuild trade‘ according to ESPN's Brian Windhorst. Would Memphis move the two-time NBA All-Star big to punt on competing in the loaded Western Conference?
Knicks want JJJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Follow the tea leaves (based on my impressions):1.Knicks prefer to keep KAT
2. Knicks more willing to move some combo Bridges, Hart ,Mitch , and maybe McBride.
3. They prefer not to but would move OG instead of Bridges if they had to.
4. Memphis on a potential fire sale
5. JJJ is CAA and on last year of deal, doesn't qualify for supermax and therefore Memphis leverage over him is somewhat diminished.
*What does that add up to?
*Does Memphis favor players or picks? If it's picks, you figure out:1. who wants Bridges the most (we know Houston loves him) and get 3-4 FRPS picks for him.
2. You then get as much as you can for 1 or 2 other guys of Mitch, Hart, McBride (1 to 2 more FRPs depending on quality of the FRP)
3. Send that package over to Memphis along with salary matching players AND your 2026 #1 and a couple 2's as well.
If it's Bridges + they prefer:1. You send them Bridges and one of Hart, Mitch or McBride (whatever they want most) AND your 2026 #1 and a couple 2's as well
2. Or You send them Bridges then get a pick or two for one of Hart, Mitch or McBride from a 3rd team and then send those picks to Memphis AND your 2026 #1 and a couple 2's as well
I can follow the logic in this trade for all parties involved even if it may be unlikely a lot more easily some of your previous proposals where Memphis didn't feel like they could get a better offer for an expiring JJJ than an expiring Mikal or Mikal would extend early to join a team that just traded away Banes and JJJ instead of pushing to stay in New York.
I still feel like Memphis is going to bring JJJ back but if they did decide to rebuild a 3 team deal could work between Houston, New York and Memphis although I have JJJ having more value than Mikal so the Knicks would have to find a way to make up the gap in value. I'm still not sure why you keep mentioning the Knicks sending out their 2026 1st since I don't believe it can be traded.
In the end if i'm Houston and JJJ is on the market i'm cutting out New York. I would much rather have the player that is 3 years younger and a stretch big that fits nicely between Amen while he works on improving his shooting and possibly Sengun. If i'm Memphis i'm asking JJJ to open up his choices of destinations as all teams do. If i'm JJJ i'm very open to joining a young team on the rise with a great coach that is already very good with good depth and more assets to improve into the future.
