Mogbo as a long-term solution at Center

Post#1 » by RaptorLakerJay » Mon Jun 16, 2025 6:29 pm

Heck, Alex Caruso was guarding Jokic and did solid (although he did foul a bit). Mogbo is an exceptional defender and can guard practically every position. We know that stretch bigs that are high quality rotational players are already quite rare, and he could potentially become one. He's definitely not there yet, but he's shown that he could knock it down. He has great passing abilities as well. I really don't think Mogbo is a long-term bench piece. If he puts in the work this offseason, and he's given the minutes, I believe that he could be on the trajectory to be a poor man's Draymond Green (yes I know he's a HOF player but Mogbo has lot of similarities to him). He's got decent size at 6'9, has a great build, and he performed pretty good when given minutes as a rookie this past season.

Partly bringing this up given the trade rumors, but I think it could be worth exploring.

Let's see him be a good short term solution first lol

Not enough size or skill to be the solution. He’s definitely going to be one of those guys that can wreak havoc in certain matchups though when teams aren’t prepared for him. Like Obi Toppin or something.

There are only 2 teams in the league that rank in the top 6 in offensive and defensive efficiency: the Golden State Warriors and the Toronto Raptors.

Yup. Effective first big of the bench seems to be his future role. Naz Reid, Toppin, Boucher style.

Let's see if he can first reliably make a layup.

Can probably work in certain matchups in a reserve role but too small to be a real solution.

We just spent years seeing in real-time that you need a real C with size (and scoring touch) to do the dirty work and not be a complete zero on the offensive end.

He's 6'7 in shoes and 225 pounds. Naz Reid, one of the smaller centers in the league is two inches taller and 40 pounds heavier. Let's get carried away here.

He's ideally a 3/4 playing with a stretch big. He needs to work on his rim finishing and corner threes. We can get a better center option in the second round.

This.

He's remarkably bad on offense right now, so we need to see what happens with that before we even entertain the idea of him as a long-term solution. I'd also like to see him be far better on the defensive glass.

He's worth taking a look at, but like someone else said, let's see about him being a reasonable short-term guy before worrying about long-term.

he had some good moments and i see a path but honestly his first season left a lot to be desired. As an older rookie i was expecting a little more polish, he definitely has something and if he puts in the work he could become a good role player...but I can also see things not working out for him. Hes a very timid player, guys like him need to have a nastiness to their games and you can tell he doesnt have it, i think this will be what makes or breaks him

I don’t really think that he factors into their plans like Shead and Walker do, hence stil looking for a big not a wing. I think they took him to please Scottie and anything else is gravy.

Dude isn't even looking like a long term solution at backup C, let's pump the brakes.

NO. Not even super high on him sticking around long-term in any capacity.

Better quesiton to ponder: We traded the pick that would become Isaiah Collier and passed on Filipkowski to pick Mogbo. Did we get the worst of the 3? That's very possible.

His defense isn't the issue.

Collier and Filipowski both are pretty underwhelming as well.

Mogbo has the highest ceiling of the 3 IMO, but maybe the highest bust potential.

Somebody please bookmark this thread so we can share just how much hate this board has for another great prospect of ours. As of the Raptors havent proven it time and time again.

Right now he's a poor man's version of Kenneth Faried/Udonis Haslem. Typically lots of energy. Has a chance to be a defensive disrupter. Currently very limited offensively based on size and skill set combination. Pretty typical of many athletic, undersized 4/5's.

He needs a leap this offseason offensively, just to be a full time rotation guy, imo.

Right now he is a situational bench guy. You just can't have such a non factor on offense out there and his touch around the net is absurdly awful.

I like Mogbo, and I think he can be a regular off the bench, but he needs to establish himself as a rotation player before we set higher expectations.
