Ben Simmons sweepstakes

Post#1 » by zimpy27 » Mon Jun 16, 2025 10:21 pm

Looking around the league makes me realise we have a number of teams with a dearth of playmaking.

Playoff-aspiring teams that could really use Simmons: Suns, Dallas, Minnesota, Sixers, Celtics, Bucks, Thunder, Nuggets, Spurs

Who do you think gets Simmons?

I kind of think Dallas would make some crazy huge lineups. Simmons-Klay-PJ-Flagg-Davis
I think I want to see Simmons with them.

I think Simmons could have biggest revival on the Suns playing a Draymond role for a Beal-Booker backcourt. Him and Dunn would be an absolute menace on wing defense. Means Suns need to target a stretch big in the Durant trade.

Another good question is how big is his contract going to be?

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

I'm thinking full MLE will be absolute maximum. More likely to be TaxMLE.

He would be a good fit as a Kyle Anderson replacement on Minnesota, but he can get more minutes and money elsewhere.

I think we can cross the Sixers and Bucks off of the likely list. There's some ill will.

Minnesota would be super fun, so I'll hope for that.

I think he just returns to LAC.

Nothing against him personally, but I cannot imagine using a roster spot on him.

If I were a GM, he’s the antithesis of the culture that I’d be looking to build and his “talent” doesn’t come close to outweighing that fact.

I think Simmons would be a great small ball 5 and or back up for Draymond in Golden State.

I don't know about sweepstakes, but if he goes for the min, I hope Dallas at least calls. Unique opportunity for him to be on ball a lot.

Would like him in Dallas. Would trade Martin+Hardy to offer Simmons the taxMLE.

Don’t expect that to happen. Would think he stays in LA for their taxMLE.

I still really like him in Sacramento…

PG - Ellis / Monk
SG - LaVine / Carter / Davis
SF - Murray / DeRozan
PF - Simmons / LaRavia
C - Sabonis / Valanciunas / Jones

Even if we trade Monk for PJ Washington and/or DeRozan for Rozier/Jaquez, I still think he makes a lot of sense. He’d have a legit shot to win the “starting PG” role.

Yeah he does fit Kings nicely. Kings should be able to out offer everyone else. I like it.

Seems like a poor fit in SAC. That rotation is primarily comprised of shaky/non-shooters outside of Lavine, Monk, and Murray. Simmons and Sabonis is especially pretty redundant offensively.

White / Pritchard
Brown
Hauser
Simmons
Porzingis / Horford (re-signed)

I left Jrue off because he'd have to be moved to duck the 2nd apron - I can't see BOS staying over that. BOS probably only going to be able to pay him minimum, but I think that's a really good situation for Simmons to play a lot on a team that's tremendously well suited for him. He'd probably be the #1 ball handler on that team or worst case splitting with White who isn't really a true PG and he'd be sharing the starting lineup with an all star wing scorer, and a couple of fringe all star caliber players in Porzingis/White along with one of the best volume shooters in the game. If you get Horford back it's full time stretch 5 too which we know Simmons needs.

Unless Doc Rivers is no longer coaching the Bucks, I dont know that either Simmons or Doc would welcome that reunion.

Nor do I think the 76ers organization wants a second go at that either.

You forgot Ellis who is a heck of a shooter as well not to mention Sabonis knocked them down at a very high clip last year (even if on a smaller volume). Laravia was a very efficient shooter last season too.

How are they redundant offensively?

Kings need a selfless handler, size and defense...then make DDR a 3D guy..KCP/Wiggins/Jrue...and suddenly they have a better defensive culture
