Different roles so it's hard to compare. They both have plenty of strengths and weaknesses that look better or worse in different contexts.

Bridges gives you a guy who can really disrupt small guards defensively. 1000 foot wingspan but can slide his feet with shorter guys. On offense he's a complimentary scorer. He's a good but not great outside shooter, who can also create a nice little middy for himself if the offense breaks down. If you already have your best scoring options in place, Mikal is a helpful piece on any roster.

Bane has way more fire power. He's knockdown when left open, and pretty elite shooting off the bounce. He's the kind of shooting threat that causes defensive panic. He's also super fast in transition and very high motor. Everyone knows the wingspan thing, so I wont harp on it, but what I'll say is that it makes him basically a small guard on defense. He's strong, high effort, and athletic, so he's not a defensive minus at all, he's just limited in that sense.

If I'm New York, I wouldn't trade Bridges for Bane. They need his perimeter defense. I also think Memphis would have been better with Bridges instead of Bane. In Orlando though, Bane fills a big need that Bridges wouldn't. Bane is going to make life easier for Franz and Paolo, while also be weaponized playing off those big driving playmakers.

Orlando fans won't have buyers remorse with getting in Dessie 12 months after the trade like all the Knicks fans rueing acquiring Mikal and wanting to move him on...

I can understand why Boston fans are praying for Bridges & Anunoby to get broken up

Still celebrating that win?? Did you guys hang a banner for it yet?

My bad, didn’t realize you guys were still so upset about it. Figured Doogie going back to his schtick meant he was ready for a little banter. But if it’s still too sensitive a topic, I can only apologize.

That’s not on Mikal, and that’s not why Bane would be better. End of the day the remorse comes down to the shortcomings of the NY stars.

Small and not-super gifted athletically Brunson and Bonehead Towns are both older (compared to Orl) and can be stymied at the championship level due to those limitations.

Paolo and Franz both have prototypical size, youth, and have not been exposed as knuckleheads (like Towns). They do have a flaw in shooting that can still theoretically be improved. There is genuine hope. If they were Brunson/Towns ages and had full careers shooting as they are, then it would be a different story,

For NY, Brunson can’t ‘fix’ his physical profile. Any hope that Towns is going to fix his flaws at this stage in his career would be wishful thinking at very best.

The remorse comes in the acknowledgment (explicit, or known yet ignored or unrealized) of these facts.

Other fan bases sure love telling us how much remorse we should have just because our first at bat was only a double that could’ve been a triple :dontknow:

Bane is the better player. I'm shocked on how low people are on him in general.

I’d think one would realize I was mainly addressing those who felt buyer’s remorse over Bridges.

Assuming the entire fanbase feels that way would be folly from the start.

I do think the shortcomings of Brunson and KAT in the context of actually being able to win it all are very real, regardless of one’s views on the Bridges trade. Main idea being that I think it’s unfair to throw shade at Bridges because the NY FO decided to unload so many assets, and that’s what the poster I originally responded to was doing. He’s great in his role and can absolutely be the 3rd wheel.

Side note: I voted for Bridges.

Bane being a couple of years younger than Bridges as well as being on a very good contract is another reason I voted Bane.

Bane is a more potent and consistent offensive force, and is a perfect fit for Orlando.

I don't know why The Knicks traded for Bridges when they already had OG ?

2 solid defending wings are better than 1? especially when the stars on the team aren’t great defensively
