That's nowhere close to viable in terms of what the Suns are wanting even if the numbers work. And if the Suns get that pick back, they're definitely not trading it away.

ESPN trade machine says the trade is a fail. Not sure how reliable it is though.

ESPN trade machine is poorly constructed and doesn't account for several rules. Here's the trade from a reliable one that does:

Rockets would have to add Jock Landale for salary matching proposes.

Not based on the trade as outlined from him with those two and the #10 pick. It went through just fine since the Suns are reducing their cap amount. It doesn't need to match exactly as they can certainly take back less than is being sent out.

No worries.

There's still specifics on limited salary matching rules:

"Limited Salary Matching: In trades, teams can only match salaries at 110% of the outgoing salary, compared to 125% for teams below the apron."

That's probably what you were running into with the Green, Smith, and Londale idea.

That makes sense. Ya, Minnesota shouldn't gv up Gobert for that.

Can't trust KD.

That what worries me about him with my Spurs , too. Giving up players, assets for a short term thing, that's if he even stays healthy.

I'm kinda hoping teams like the Heat, Knicks or Rockets gets him at this point

apparently we were his top choice

At this point, it really doesn't matter what Durant wants since the Suns control his fate to a large degree; however, it just doesn't add up to have a player on your team that you KNOW isn't going to stick around and one you're giving up a fair amount of capital on in terms of players or picks.

This situation has devolved into something it didn't need to be. The problem is still Bradley Beal, not Durant. But because Ishbia is a moron and stabbed him in the back, he's definitely not interested in sticking it out here.

Yep the Suns might well manage to get a decent offer from a team he didn't list as a preferred destination, but I think Durant does have some considerable leverage in that he can hurt his value by making it known he won't sign an extension or be happy playing with other teams. Which he's already started to do. He has managed to successfully force his way to where he's wanted to go before already with the Suns so it'll be interesting to see if he can dictate things in his favour again this time around.

It is a bit different now since the teams he wants to go to won't be giving up a huge haul to get him, now that he's on his last legs and needs to get paid. He'll be commanding max money through age 39 or 40 with a 2 or 3 year extension. I can't see him staying with the Suns at this point like you said either, so we'll see what kind of value they can manage for him in the end. I think it'll be much less than many might expect.

Likely something only slightly better than the Butler package Miami received from GS. That was a very similar situation only I doubt Durant will go as far as Butler did to get his way but we'll see. Harden set the precedent for stars being childish and throwing tantrums to get what and where they want if they are willing to be that way, and unfortunately it does somewhat work when they go that route.

And yes Beal was such a bad mistake by the Suns, it'll haunt them for a long time.

The Knicks don't really make sense to me to be honest. They just made big offseason moves and got further into the playoffs then ever before, adding KD would require a major roster shake up. I'm assuming that the Pacers' success in the finals thus far has probably convinced them they're on the right track.

It does seem most likely a 3rd team will have to get involved (even for salary Cap matching purposes) for Durant's next destination.

Are Phoenix demanding too much ? Perhaps, doesn't look like a trade will materialise this week though

yeah they only trade that made sense for him is straight swamp of kat/kd which is a huuuuge risk for the knicks trading a prime all nba big for a 37 year old all time great. the only other possible trade was some combo of og,hart, mikal which also doesn’t make sense for a team already kinda thin in terms of depth

I dont know why these young teams (HOU/SAN) hurry so much with 37y old Durant. It's not like they become primary contender with KD, so what is the point? These teams will be exactly in the same place after year or two w/o KD and will all their assets.
