Interesting poll so far

Didn’t the Mavs go through the Trailblazers Thunder and Heat?

2011 mavericks of course. Nothing was going to get in their way. They are one of the very few teams that had destiny written all over it. Like some kind of prophetic fulfillment. No MJ-lead team, kobe/Shaq team, Lebron (besides 2016 cavs; another team of prophecy), nor curry/kd team would have beaten that Dallas team. Let alone a luck-of-the-draw kawhi Toronto team.

GO LAKERS

I've heard it through the grapevine..NBA gods have already designated Los Angeles LAKERS as NBA Champions in near future. The destiny is real. TRUST ME.

Raptors went through the Butler/Embiid/Simmons/Harris 76ers and the 60 win bucks with the MVP winner Giannis. None of the teams the Mavericks beat were as good as these two.

Mavs beat the young talented 48 win Blazers team (before injuries destroyed them), the 55 win Thunder, 57 win Lakers (2 time defending Champs) and the 57 win Miami Heat superteam that went on to win 2 titles.

2019 was a strong playoff run for the Raptors but the Mavs 2011 run was one of the most impressive of all time. Its not even a debate.

A Raptors poll is always going to be skewed. They have 10x more fans on here than the next closest franchise.

The 2019 Raptors were stacked. Kawhi was still a top-3 player at the time. Lowry was a top-20 player still. Gasol was washed on offence but still as elite as anyone on defence. Siakam and FVV were coming into their own and Green and Ibaka were excellent role players. We won that title with OG out for the entire playoffs.

You forgot about the Lakers too.

It's always difficult comparing modern, 3 point shooting teams to teams before the modern 3 point shooting era came about. That Mavs team averaged 21.6 3PA. That raptors team averaged 33.8 3PA. The Raptors would destroy that Mavs team. Hell, the Raptors would curb stomp the 95-96 Bulls. That's how big the talent gap is.

Even if you apply an "adjustment" for the era, I still have the Raptors winning. That team was stacked.

Dallas won the 3 point shooting match-up in all their series (closest being OKC, but OKC's stars were like 21 years old and in their 2nd/3rd year).

They had multiple games where opponents shot under 20% or even under 10% from 3 point land. Raptors never shot under 20% from their once.

Miami were starting a washed up Mike Bibby and Joel Anthony. Neither would even be bench players in 2019.

Mavs comfortably. Their 2011 run was legit. The Raptors were a great team but wouldn’t have won the championship without all the Warriors’ injuries.

Lakers were on the backend of their time and were starting to get up there in age.

Thunder were the best team of the group and were in fact very good, but they were up against a veteran squad who took them to school.

This Miami team that Dallas beat was nothing special. They were an above average team that featured three superstar players but were horrible outside of them. Dallas already had their number prior to beating them in the finals.

Don't get me wrong, it was a good story driven run but it's gotten horribly overrated with time.

In other words, it's absolutely a debate. We need to stop pretending the Mavs were massive underdogs beating all time great teams. They didn't.

Nothing special? 3 HoF players, 1 of which is arguably the GOAT. Not to mention Spo who will be in the HoF one day too. They were ramming through the East prior to the finals and until the 4th quarter of G2, darn near everyone wrote off DAL as just not on their level. It seems that many forget that D-Wade was also SIGNIFICANTLY better in this year then he was in future Heatles years. If they were nothing special, it's because the Mavs beat them and made it look like they weren't.

Raps was more complete, they have better defenders and shooters. Kawhi and Dirk is a wash

Toronto by virtue of being a younger team. The Mavs were one of the flukiest title winners in NBA history.

LOL at the modern thinking of “we shoot a lot of 3’s we’re gonna beat everybody mentality” specially a team that got taken to the last shot of a game 7 by a team with Ben Simmons as one of its leaders, let that sink in

The 1996 Mavs put up 25 3’s per game and made 9 (36%) and finished with 26 wins! What a difference when other teams actually crash the boards and dominate the paint on offense and defense rather than parking 5 players 25 away from the basket while also dictating pace.

The 1996 Bulls were one of the greatest defensive teams of all time when the league actually allowed physicality and took out two of the top 5 3 point shooting teams in the Magic and Sonics rather easily on their way to the title. There was a thing called “using the other teams strengths against them” but you needed discipline physical defense and IQ to pull it off which is something not seen in the NBA for at least 20 years. In fact those 96 Magic and Sonics “curb stomp” the 19 Raptors in 4-5 games.

In NO ERA are Kawhit, Siakam and Van Fleet taking out MJ, Pippen, Rodman and Phil in a 7 game series, no way no how. Those 19 Raptors are a one hit wonder that should be compared with 78 Bullets or 79 Sonics and actually they’re well on their way to be forgotten the same way. The 80’s Celtics, Lakers and 90’s Bulls to name a few are in another realm.

2019 Raptors were truly a historically great team. Basically every guy on there was an all nba level defender with multiple DPOY guys starting. I'll take them but that's not disrespect to the 2011 mavs.

Everything in today’s short attention span world is “historical”, “legendary”, “best ever” :banghead:

Very simple deduction, historically great teams don’t win just 58 games in the RS and lose 8 times in the playoffs, they do not qualify neither do the 11 Mavs. Don’t confuse historic playoff runs like the 01 Lakers and 95 Rockets with all time great teams.

I'm sorry that you have a short attention span. But that raptor's team absolutely was an all time team. Also LOL on the 1995 rockets.

But seriously give me a team ever who's least acclaimed defensive starter was Pascal Siakam, a 6'8 long armed super athletic wing defender.

Bud if we’re now giving all time team status to a squad with less than 60 wins in the RS and a 16-8 playoff record along with being taken to 7 games by the friggin Sixers then my friend that title has lost all its meaning. This while also playing in the Leastern Conference and facing a depleted Warriors team in the Finals.

At least with one hit wonder “all time teams” like the 71 Bucks, 72 Lakers or 83 Sixers they absolutely dominated from tape to tape leaving no doubt who was the top dog for those seasons at least not to mention their best players were a level above Kawhit and Siakam.
