Frankly, if the team drafting 3 passes on Ace Bailey, Hornets will pounce unless the Fears bidders present a bounty for 4.

He's either gotten a promise from the 76ers or us (or a team trading in for him at #3 or #4) or has gotten really bad advice from his agents who don't realize he might slip. Like everyone assumed Shedeur Sanders was a top 10 pick in the NFL draft this year until he suddenly wasn't
investigate Adam Silver

I thought the Sixers were high on VJ.
If the promise was from someone it's most definitely us.

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
A lot of negative stuff coming out about Bailey today, feels like someone trying to push him down the board to them.
Philly stuff about him refusing to workout, was apparently denied by Sixers staff and he is working out for them this week.

Ace, Fears, or 4-for-7 (Trey Murphy III + Jaku) or 4-for-8 (Claxton + Jaku).
Harper is untouchable (my opinion).

Love that Trey Murphy idea. Dunno if they’d do it though.

Its crazy how you and I always end up liking the same prospects lol
I have it Ace/Fears if not those 2 I prefer a trade.

It seems like rumors point to he supposedly wants to go at 3 to Philly or fall to the Nets. Who knows, probably a smokescreen.

They'd want more. Besides, Nets are the more realistic trade down partner with Nic Claxton and Cam Johnson standing in the way of another tanking season for BKN.

I think it's something to do with how we evaluate prospects using primarily film/eye test but tempering it with stats. There are certain values you have to weigh greater than others which shouldn't distract from the things you see with your own eyes.
For instance Fears potential to shoot.
The stats that back what we see:
36% off the catch
85% FT
While the focal point of the defense every game.
TS% of the Sooners in Fears pick-and-role possessions?
60.
Plus that gaudy .518 FT attempt rate.
Top of the class.

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
No Ceilings did a long write up today about Ace regarding his other outcomes that are not boom or bust. They called it his secret third option. They boiled it down to two scenarios the high volume wing and the three and D wing. From the high volume category they removed the players that were also good Defenders or good passers and we're basically left with three players Paolo Brandon Miller and Miles Bridges ironically. They weren't saying that stylistically he played like those players just simply that they were players that existed on a heavy shot diet without bringing a whole lot else to the table. They specifically mentioned that adding Ace to a team with already two of those types of players probably isn't the best idea, If his role is to be a heavy volume scorer.
The other option was a three and D wing and the comparison that we've heard numerous times ended up being Wiggins.
Now I would counter this two ways by saying first and foremost a high volume Wing that doesn't bring a whole lot else to the table isn't really a player I'm interested in adding to the hornets. But if we did draft Ace I think we most certainly would have to move miles by next summer. I don't think that Ace Miller and miles can all flourish together. Too many guys that need the ball without doing much else.
A 3&d wing like Golden State Andrew Wiggins would be a much more palatable option for this team. One that you could potentially ramp up their usage as they proved more skills like ball handling when pressure and passing.
Anyway it's a decent read if you're starving for more Ace Bailey information.

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
I think Ace is a better iso version of Jabari Smith who is more of a finisher. Ace is going to bring more versatile offense than Jabari Smith. The help defense is a factor not overlooked.
Ace is one of the few safe bets to raise play both sides of the ball.

I honestly have no idea what to make of this information without seeing it compared to other similar players. I have no idea what percentage of turnovers most players have from passing or dribbling etc.
Wouldn't it make sense that most turnovers come from errant passes?

Yeah was thinking the same, seems like this is mainly a negative hit piece because what are we hoping to see in this breakdown?

I didn't see it posted anywhere although you guys were talking about it. I'm just catching up on everything. So anyway here's the Intel coming out about Ace from draft express. Not sure what to make of this. Jon g the most well-connected dude in the draft business so it's not like he's making up the intel. The question really comes down to whether or not some team is trying to tank his value to get him to drop. Might be a mix of both things. I'm sure like jmac mentioned that he will probably be working out with Philly here in the next week. Hopefully Charlotte can get him in for a workout. Honestly if he declines to work out for Charlotte that's pretty frustrating. I'm not sure I would be comfortable spending a top 4 pick on a player that was unwilling to work out for us. We've had that happen to us a lot as a franchise but it's usually when we were drafting in the back half of the lottery not in the top four. The only one I can remember off the top of my head was when Baron Davis refused to work out with us. That did turn out well but
And the other stuff about him only wanting to go to a franchise that's going to give him the keys now that's just some pure nonsensical deranged b*******. I've said some harsh things about Ace but I can't believe he's that out of touch and that his agents and handlers would be pushing that narrative.
I do 100% believe though that the Sixers have really focused in on drafting VJ. To me he makes a lot more sense for them. And if so that is also frustrating because that would be the second year in a row that a similar type player, a defensive shooting guard, something this team desperately needs would go right in front of us.
Maybe the Sixers are blowing smoke to try to get us to trade up to three which I would honestly consider unless the price was comical.
Everyone's probably going to draw their own conclusions from this report about Ace depending on how they already felt about him anyway.

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
As I've said many times before I think the value of Ace truly is up to Aces own mentality and not his skill set. If he only views himself as a superstar who should have a high usage and be a team's leading scorer or at worst a high volume Wing that doesn't bring much else to the table then that's not really going to lead to winning basketball anytime soon. If he's willing to start his career as more they three and D wing while he gets more muscle and improves his handle and learns the game a little bit then that's a much different story to him as a player.MasterIchiro wrote:I think Ace is a better iso version of Jabari Smith who is more of a finisher. That's why I said if the Hornets were trying to trade melo this summer I'd be much more interested in Ace as a player because then you could give him the keys to the franchise and let him figure out trying to be a superstar for the next 3 years while we continue to suck.

Re: The Ace Bailey Thread
I have no reaction whatsoever to Ace/agency saying he wants to play somewhere that greenlights him the way we did so for Tiddy.
It's no different than Castle/agency saying he wants to play PG.
Ace is promoting his scoring potential just as Castle was highlighting his value as a playmaker.
