Brad will have to add cheaper pieces.

Celtics didn't trade Jaylen Brown for KD in 2022. They certainly won't do it now.

Yeah, I know.

The other poster was asking if it's possible to get KD and go under the apron at the same time.

Not to mention that KD wants a 2 year extension for $120 million at ages 38 and 39.

We aren’t trading Brown for KD. That would just be pure stupidity.
I don’t see us trading for KD period but if it did happen it’s likely Jrue and KP and a pick out, involving other teams. That offer can certainly be beat of course.

Jrue, KP, and Sam.

That's around 73m.

But yeah, that's not going to be the best offer.

Honestly, trading for KD and giving him a two year extension I don't see how that helps the Celtics 2nd apron issues. "Old" (pardon the pun) news in my opinion.

That was my proposal from way back. Great deal for Phoenix too imo. They’d just need to dump some other money likely.

It could be great for this year depending on how JT bounces back but the extension issue is the big problem there.

I did crunch the numbers way back in this thread and iirc it was close but not possible. They’d be trying to save other money elsewhere dumping Tillman, Walsh/Davison, FA bigs etc etc.

In other words the trade didn’t do it quite enough without moving Pritchard also which imo gets too rich.

For sure. He would need to sign for like 2/40 to help really and I do t see that happening.
I dont see him as a target even if he wants to come here.

I think it might be likely that the Celtics end up a facilitator as a 3rd team getting Durant to wherever he ends up going.

For example: (but not this particular deal) because I don't see the Celtics helping Pat Riley.

Celtics: Wiggins
Suns: Holiday, Ware, Jovic, Anderson
Heat: Durant

I only say this because I think the Suns like both Holiday and Porzingis.

It is a little crazy how well the Jrue/KP/Hauser goup would fit for a Phoenix team trying to stay above water.

I do like the idea of trying to deal with the dumbass Suns who seem desperate and even more at the whims of their idiot owner.
The most charitable interpretation is that it's ethnic cleansing and massive war crimes.

Yeah, I do that easily.

Wiggins is a great 4th wheel and takes all defensive pressure of Tatum.

I would prefer a slightly larger forward, but wiggins is great at his role.

When healthy next year

White
BRown
WIggins
Tatum
Big strong rebounding center to take rebounding pressure off of JT.

I almost talked myself into the Vecenie idea of KP and 2027 1st (top 10 protected) to BKN.

There's variations of it (add LAL with Claxton for Vincent/Vandy. CHA with Nurk/Okogie to Nets, CHI with Vuc, etc) to slim down what BKN has to take or let them offload salary too. But, the result for BOS is saving $30.7M.

It takes a lot of the pressure off a Jrue deal. Can get something decent back and some seconds and still duck the tax completely. With the 2nds back it's almost like you traded back from the 27 pick ahead of time. Draft and play a big, sign Kornet, play Queta. Then just check back in with KP next summer and see if he's interested in the MLE.

It definitely feels underwhelming, though. Depends on the Jrue return. But, it lets you make that Jrue return better since you've already done most of the work. If you get someone really good you can stay above the tax, but you've already cleared the apron.

I don't see Phoenix wanting Jrue's contract, plus they would be spending 140mil on 3 guys under 6'6" for the 25/26 season.

Maybe instead, insert KP and Sam and get closer to going under the 2nd apron.

C's get Wiggins and #29

Heat get Durant

Suns get Porzingis, Sam and Jaquez and #20

Without JT, Wiggins may end up having a good year and decide to opt out in 26/27.

Jaquez seemed to fall out of favor with Spoelstra and he's a west coast kid anyway. Fresh start.

With #28 and #29, you can now add a pick to move Jrue and still keep one of them.

211mil with Wiggins

179mil if they can move Jrue.

Re-sign Luke and maybe even AL

Unfortunately, 2nd apron stuff restricts the Celtics from doing much of anything. Sucks, really. The new NBA is dumb. It'll be hard for teams to stick together.

If I'm Brad I call Memphis again and offer Kristaps and every pick I can legally trade in exchange for JJJ.

Indiana trades #23 to New Orleans for their own (Indy's) 2026 first back, the pick that went to Toronto for Siakam then to New Orleans for BI.
This makes sense because Indiana young guys they already have: Walker, Mathurin, Sheppard and Furphy probably need more minutes

EDIT: Also, Indiana re-acquiring their 2026 pick gives them team control over their future drafts, that they regain ability to trade their own picks in '26 and 28 or if they want to trade 2027... while New Orleans controlled 2026 1st, Indiana's pick trades were restricted because of consecutive future pick trade restrictions (stepien rule)

And that right there is why one franchise is in the Finals and the other is always irrelevant. Pacers already have more guys than they can play and would much rather have the flexibility of an additional first round pick this summer/next trade deadline to improve their roster than a late first rounder riding the bench. They also get all the upside (in case their next season goes sideways and they stumble into a high pick) and virtually no downside (worst case scenario they trade down from #23 this year to #30 next year which really isn't a big deal). The Pelicans get a shiny new toy right now at the expense of better long term management of their assets.

McCollum and #23 for Jrue Holiday.

I think I would do it. McCollum is expiring.

Send Jrue Holiday back to New Orleans.
