I definitely have to retract my original statement:

JDub is indeed the best player in the 2022 draft class right now, and I don't think it's all that close.

Will be interesting to see if Chet - or anyone else - catches up, or not.

Regardless, I'm thrilled for the young man who really could have pretty easily never gotten a look from the NBA at all, and I applaud Presti, Daigneault & co. for finding and polishing this diamond in the rough.

I would love to see Holmgren and Williams play as the #1 in that putrid Magic offense. Just one of the worst constructed rosters in the association.

Paolo is comfortably still the best to me. It’s hard to look as good as he did against Boston, despite being stuck in a box 100% of the time.

Chet is a clear third. I'm less optimistic about how much better he can get. also really like Sharpe & Kesslers upside

Jdub is probably a harder guy to find because he doesn't need to be the center of the offense and plays defense.

Paolo has a lot of upside but when we're talking high end talent these are more common ball dominant and not as goood defense players. Franz basically has the same profile as Paolo. Imagine if Orlando could flip one of their two guys for a Jdub, then you're cooking with gas.

Ball dominant SGA plus JDub is a solid decade+ of finals contention status.

That makes sense. Paolo is a #1, but it's harder to find a #2.

J-Dub has had the best season among all of 2022 draft class, so it's not a 'moment'. Next year - surely, it can change, but All-NBA Team/All-Defensive Team/4.0/4.8 BPM season in the RS/PO for a 3rd year 24yo on championship-level team - is not a small feat to surpass for almost any player, especially considering that J-Dub will get better as well.

JDub is the the type of player you can add to any team and he will fit right in and add lots of value in different ways. Paolo is probably less dynamic that way but he is still the better player overall and is younger.

Easily. Top-3 in a re-draft would be IMO:

1. JDub
2. Chet
3. Paolo

Chet and Paolo are kind of interchangeable. Chet doesn't give you much on offence while Paolo is a pylon on defence. JDub is much better than both of them.

JDub is way more efficient and a better defender than Paolo (they also have different roles and Jalen is on a better team) but don’t throw away Paolo’s 25.9/7.5/4.8 on one of the worst offensive team in the league and NBA history. In the playoffs he also averaged 29.4/8.4/4.2 in 5 games against the Celtics with an even worse shooting team.

I get it, I want you to celebrate JDub, this is his moment and he has been incredible this year, all star, all-NBA, and all-defense, but you don’t have to disregard Paolo in order to celebrate JDub.

I hate these bumps, because if Paolo or Chet or anyone from the 2022 draft is in the finals next year and do better, this post is going to sound differently. But in 2025, this is Jalen’s moment and he deserves it.
