Brown is just a much better defender. Unfortunately Bane is a trex.

Much better ehh? You know this can be measured right?

Advanced analytics doesn’t agree with you.

All analytics in regard to defense suck. In the playoffs when the chips are down Brown can guard guys Bane can't

But if you need analytics here they are.

This is simply not true, analytics have come a long way.

D-LEBRON is one of the best individual defensive stats out there.

I agree Brown is the better overall defender, but saying he’s a “much better defender” is simply wrong and saying it’s the eye test or calling Bane trex doesn’t make your statement any more credible.

Almost every single advanced analysis out there has Bane as the better and more productive player.

Who uses defensive rating anymore, that is a team bias stat

Go over to bball index and you will get a better understanding of individual defense via D-LEBRON.

I’m going to go out on a limb and say I like this deal.

Orlando is going to be a load next year if they are healthy and Memphis has shown they know how to bounce back, find value in the draft and stay competitive.

If you look at the life cycle of trading for Bane at the draft, getting a bunch of play off seasons from him as a starter then turning him into 4.5 firsts the whole thing start to finish is elite value. Just need to cash in as they go.

Yea, another overlooked detail of this all is how young Orlando’s core is.

When the last pick is due to Memphis, Orlando’s core would be just entering their prime and the Magic would be able to do another all-in move just like this one if they so chose.

Right between health and growth of young guys and the trade it's not out of the question at all that the Magic are a second round team next year. Maybe that is why some people are down on it they don't see the Magic as good enough but they are a tough club on the rise. As a Celtics fan the three teams in the east that are most concerning are Cleveland, Indiana and Orlando, and those were the teams I was concerned about going into the playoffs. Boston won in five but they also took one on the chin doing it and ORL will get tougher going forward.

Kind of a fun spot too as a fan just looking to fill those middle bench rotation spots right and watching guys develop.

They got Christie + unprotected 1st on top of AD...you dont think AD can be flipped for three 1st's? I think Houston would make that trade today

Lakers also took on Kleber's injury and 2 year contract.
That would have been 1-2 FRPs based on last year's trading deadline moves.

It was costly for Lakers since they had to practically throw away one year of LeBron's Ship quest. But obviously, the move was a long term move looking at the future when Bron retires.

The luka trade comp is such a lazy take.

They literally got AD, a top 10 player in the league for him

Memphis got cole anthony and kcp, which was basically offloading.

So pick 16 and 3 picks in the 20-30 range for a guy that dropped 24/5/6 last year on crazy efficiency.

I personally think its fair for both sides, Magic have been historically bad at drafting outside of the top 15, over the last 15 years and already have their last 3 draft picks fighting for minutes.

I like this deal for the Magic. Why hold onto these picks hoping for a Bane-like player, when you can just trade them for Bane?

Also, he fits their timeline fairly well; the Magic are super young.

One of the podcasts mentioned that the Magic may just skirt under with the 4 big contracts.

However, if Paolo makes an All-NBA team next season, he's going to get a bigger extension and then it might be tougher to stay under certain thresholds.

It’s a damn shame that teams and fans have root against their players winning accolades. Just like the Cavs with Mobley. That extra money shouldn’t count against the thresholds.

I assume it's to get out of the 2nd apron, it's about $11 million combined.

They were going to get declined anyway, they just did it earlier than normal.

Much better ehh? You know this can be measured right?

Advanced analytics doesn’t agree with you.

Jalen Brown is a finals MVP, it is okay to concede that Brown is better. He has far more playoff experience than Bane. Bane still has to prove himself on the team. This trade has not been proven that it will bring long term success but it is exciting.

Are you taking into account the two (let's say bad) contracts the Magic included in the trade?

Wishing the best for the magic to be honest. You guys are due. Not a huge Bane fan but if you continue on with your success the picks won't matter.
