I think this may end up good for both teams depending on what we do next. That PHX pick is interesting. Could be a key piece in a deal involving PHX (likely as a third team in a KD trade).

Well done grizz, I think you did well out of this deal. 4.5 firsts and two decent rotation players is a great haul for bane. I like bane a lot, but this package is an amazing return

Yeah I love Bane but it is really hard to say no to a package like this. I'm guessing #16, a late lottery pick, two late 1sts, and a pick swap that isn't used, but still you never know what the future holds. Will be interesting to see if we package some of that to further reshape the roster.

Ultimately, I'll judge this trade based on our next move, because there has to be a next move - the plan cannot be to simply keep these picks and add more youth over the next 5 years. Assuming that we make a next move, I like the haul and flexibility that we received in exchange for Bane. Unfortunately, Bane's contract made him overpaid and stifled our ability to continue building around Ja and JJJ.

This move was both financial and Xs and Os motivated. With the move to get back shooting and 3 and D help, this will help the Grizzlies in the backup positions. I wasn’t expecting multiple picks to come back in the deal for DesBane.

That said, this story isn’t over here just yet. There is a bigger move at work here

Overpaid player don't return 4 1sts and a swap. Stop with the overpaid nonsense already.

This is an awful trade. Are we contending or rebuilding? Front office is lost.

The Grizz were never legit title contenders so this is a welcome trade. Not total rebuild, i think the intent is to reload (those wing spots basically). But if Ja and JJJ proves they are not leaders/superstars, maybe it's time to trade one or both too. With that nice haul from Bane, maybe absolute rebuilding is the solution.

Agree to disagree. If Bane was making 20-25 per year, then he's likely not traded IMO.

I am not sure why this deal was made, if anyone can enlighten.

From the outside seemed like Bane was a sure fire KEEPER to me.

Memphis has absoltuiely taken a step back it seems with losing Bane, KCP sucked away from Jokic and Cole isnt a prize it seems.

Are you going to tear down completely and trade Ja now?

There is another trade on the horizon. When it will happen and who will be involve will be the question. I don't see this as a rebuild, but a retool. This team just fired their coach after a two month abysmal fall from the playoff rankings to fighting for their playoff lives. Then fell further apart against OKC two months ago. This team needs to find their mantra and build on it. Maturity and consistency needs to be addressed as well.

I'm a Bane fan for what he has done with the Grizzlies. So it's a bittersweet situation for me as he will no longer be a Grizzly. However, as I follow the Magic as well, he's a welcome addition and a needed issue the Magic needed to address. Gaining back picks in the deal may have something to do the length of Banes contract plus taking back CA and KCP.

Bane was deemed a star that was getting superstar money-- this is to correct those mistakes. Yes, Bane is a good player but was and will never be great (as in a franchise player, good for 1A or 1B, at best he's a great thirt star or maybe second star on some nights)

Great deal for the Grizzlies.

Now let's talk Ja and JJJ, maybe they have some value from other teams too.

I love this deal by all my heart. Bane tried to hard to prove he is a star sometimes at the cost of his teammates and the team. Borderline stars like Lavine, DeRozan, Lillard are always a cancer to contenders. Ja and JJJ are the guys who make the team win by their presence on the floor (around 57% winning games), unlike Bane. The return is awesome! KCP has nothing to prove. He is a double champion, great next to Ja and JJJ. Cole paired with SPJ coming from the bench intrigues me too.

I remember the day when Zach paid 2 2nds for Bane. Phenomenal job!

You have to know how your bread gets buttered. Bane was an incredibly large part of the offensive attack. You can't just replace that high level shooting with draft picks unless you get very lucky. We have a window with Ja's prime so deferring things further into the future makes 0 sense. There must be another trade on the horizon. Hopefully, it is an effective one.

JJJ + Ja as core is still good enough to be a playoff/play-in contender-- so basically same place when Memphis had Bane (Grizz were never true title contenders). So yeah, while the offense will struggle this is better long-term. Anyway, this team will be defined how JJJ and Ja improves/matures, because if those two doesn't it does not matter if it's Bane or first round picks.
