Shouldn’t there be an anyone but Ace choice? I was hanging around the medias and they were being mean to him for no reason. So now I vote no Ace

I voted for him so his feelings wouldn’t be hurt.

It’s bad evaluation of talent in the draft more than player development.

A bit of both, we did change our development staff after Brett.

I love what scouts and people around college said about VJ in the David Aldridge Draft Confidential. I prefered Johnson or Bailey, but I will be happy also if Morey drafts him.

VJ is winning the poll, while in the last topic Ace was winning with a good margin. You guys have been bamboozled by this media propaganda to defame Ace Bailey, you are right where they want you to be. Shame on you!

Skates wrote:Ace might be one of the most overhyped/under performing prospects I have seen in a long time. Might be a decent to very good NBA player if he puts the work in but has a ton of holes in his game. He is not the Durant sized creature he was made out to be (and never, ever played like Freshman Durant) his only major appeal to the Sixers at 3 would be fit. He legit belongs in that 3-7 or 8 tier, which are a lot of guys that really are eye of the beholder sorts. I'm very much in favor of trading down to add another asset but probably not past 6, which might be where Ace lands at this point and would be a great get there. I can see value in most of the guys in that range, though Fears is one who I would not grab for the Sixers unless you immediately want to move McCain or Maxey. Give me one of the guys in that tier plus a pick or two or a pick and player and I'd be extremely happy.
He isn’t KD but to say he plays nothing like freshmen KD is a little wild. His midrange game is very KD inspired. You can tell he watches KD film in the way that he take two dribbles to find a spot on the floor he wants and takes his middie. And it’s has been echoed by Melo and KD himself. KD was elite in getting to his spots and taking the shot contested or not so he isn’t KD and KD has more to his game but that aspect of Ace’s game is KD.
Just as you can watch a Derozen, early Tatum, Embiid and even Kyrie Irving have Kobe to there mid range games. You can tell they studied his film to copy the footwork to create space like him.

Re: 2024-2025 College Basketball / NBA Draft - Volume III
The way i see it both VJ and Ace will be good players, but i prefer Ace because of his mid range jumper ( and his size. I value more a SF than a guard). He shot it too well, in a team where he was double teamed a lot... That indicates that his mid range jumper is probably an outlier, and it will translate in the nba. And we saw in the playoffs how Siakam abused the 15 foot jumper, its a great weapon in the playoffs when defense gets tighter. So i dont think Ace will be just a 3&D player if he doesnt improve his flaws( like passing and handle). Even if you consider his median outcome( where his handle and passing dont improve) he will be way more than a 3&D player, because his mid range jumper will probably be elite, so thats pretty valuable, in my opinion. Ace will be a guy yhat you can pass to make it happen on the post, when everything goes wrong.

1) Just curious, how did you look this up?
2) Wouldn't better statistical performance against weaker competition be the case for most players? In order for a player's splits here to really mean something, I think you have to make an apples-to-apples comparison. How different is Harper's 3P shooting performance (when strength of opponent is factored in) to Tre/Ace/Kon/VJ/etc? Does Tre or Ace or others similarly shoot differently against different levels of competition?
PS: I'm not particularly enamored with trading the farm for Harper, so I'm not saying this to defend Harper. But I do want to see apples-to-apples comparisons in evaluating prospects.

If there's a sudden surge of votes for Bailey...
Conspiracy theory: votes by newish accounts with zero activity, no posts.

I do find it a tab bit amusing how everytime it leaks how much the Sixers are enamoured with VJ
— Dinner w/ 76ers brass with Maxey flown in from Texas to attend
— Workout done & dusted
They get a media mouthpiece to counter-brief with Ace propaganda. His stock seems to be naturally correcting itself anyways, however we lose all leverage in a potential trade back scenario (if the hypothetical deal is enticing enough) if there isn't at least the threat that we'd draft Bailey.
Clearly Charlotte don't want Bailey, so in a trade back scenario with, say NO, if they were to include Herb or especially Murphy. There would be zero incentive on their behalf to trade up so high and splurge as many assets.

I just took a look at that article and lol’d when I saw a Western Conference executive compare VJ to Cam Thomas. It’s easy to forget that sometimes dumb people end up having these jobs.

Do you guys think Siakam is a good comp for Bailey? I think they have a lot of similarities: good athletic abilities, good mid range jumper, good defenders and not good passers(although siakam is better). I think Bailey will be a better shooter from 3 than Pascal, and he´s more of a SF while Siakam is more of a PF, but i think they arent that different.

I think that's Bailey ceiling. A small forward Pascal. I don't think Bailey will be able to play PF cause of how slim he is.
So playing Bailey at the 3 is going to kinda negate his weakside D.

There's a few surface level similarities between Bailey and Siakam like height and midrange jumpers, but overall that's a poor comparison IMO.
Siakam is characterized by his high basketball IQ, passes, drives and finishing, and does a lot of the little things. Bailey would need a quantum leap in a lot of areas to get to that level.

I've made this comp before and I think it would be closer to a peak outcome for Bailey. If he has the right people around him (and... that's a massive question mark), he should be focused on being molded into a dynamic North->South forward with high commitment to a two-way game. Getting buckets within the flow of the offense, because as it currently stands that handle is nonfunctional for even the college level.
He's not in the same universe talent wise as the über skilled wings like Durant/Anthony/Tatum, not even Ingram or Brandon Miller level, but he wants to play that way.
However, Siakam was much more of a freak measurements wise. If Ace was the 6'10 raw canvas he was mythologized to be, we'd be working with something here. Siakam is taller than Ace and has ~4" on him wingspan wise so it negates the amount of bully-ball that Ace can lean on-- that Pascal does.

It’s bad evaluation of talent in the draft more than player development.
You can’t teach a horse to swim.
If Ben Simmons decided to work with a real shooting coach and not his brother he would have been a win on the player development side.
Also let's take the age of Ace into consideration. The guy is still a teenager prone to saying stupid thing and being immature. A couple of years ago after less than a season there was a poll on the GB about Anthony Edwards..."Is he a bust!" You have to give younger players some leeway when it comes to maturity on and off the court.
All things being equal I would love to have Cedric Coward in this draft. But for all his maturity and grit the guy is going to be 22 when the season starts Ace will be 18 and VJ maybe 30. With Ace you have to look at the potential to grow and get better. Can the 76ers be the team to help him reach the next level? It seems to be working with Justin Edwards (is PG helping him out) but Edwards went undrafted and was/is hungry to prove his detractors wrong. Ace has detractors so maybe he will have a chip on his shoulder to prove people wrong too. Looking forward to any leaks from Friday's workout, next Wednesday and summer league. I wonder if McCain will play in summer league?
You want it to be one way....but it's the other way.

VJ is my realistic pick, but the only guy with size, elite footwork and intangibles, rim pressure, ball handling with counter moves, and vision in our range is Derik Queen. Plus he has upside as a shooter.
