Re: Ace Bailey
These new reports are interesting. Ace seemingly wants to go to a place where he can be the star, but also claims to be a clear Top 3 player in this draft and expects to go no later than #3 given how he views himself.
My guess is he isn't Top 2 on most boards, and the 76ers have Maxey/Embiid/McCain/PG13 ahead of him in terms of shots/FGA.
Charlotte could be a good fit, but they have Ball/Miller ahead of him. Utah is Utah, he could clearly be the star there but he may not like the market.
I expect him to go no later than #5/#6, but this type of news gives me slight pause.

Yes, it raises the kind of flags that went up for GG Jackson.

If I'm the Jazz, I don't care about an 18 y.o. prospect posturing or talking smack before the draft. My only concern with Ace is on-ball creation and playmaking.
That said, turning down workouts near the top of the draft seems like a bad idea for any prospect. It's one thing if he's trying to get to the Lakers, like Kobe, but going to New Orleans or Washington isn't going to help him more than anywhere else.

Ace is talking himself out of a lot of guaranteed money right now, and if my instincts are right, his rookie deal might be his biggest deal. Knucklehead.

Maybe he wants Brooklyn to come get him because he's from the area? Seems unprofessional.

I could see Ace averaging 22 ppg on Brooklyn next year… on 30 shots.

Re: Ace Bailey
We've seen players steer themselves to certain teams for decades whether behind the scenes or in plain sight. This is their career. I am positive Dillingham, Holland and Sheppard regret not doing so. These young guys have a few seasons to prove they're worth a 2nd contract and if you land in a crappy situation you stand to lose tens of millions of dollars and can actually irrevocably destroy your career. So I can't fault them using the means available to them to protect their interests since nobody else will.
If I was coming out this draft and thought of myself as a #1 option I too would want to go to the Nets. Maybe he's hoping they'll come up to grab him or he feels they won't be able to so he's tanking his stock a little to fall enough where a move up or even sliding to them is possible.

This isn't intelligent maneuvering behind the scenes, this is delusional poor decision making. He's not Kobe Bryant forcing his way to the Lakers.

If he gets himself to Brooklyn and a massive runway to become a star... How is it a bad decision?

A lot of if's in that scenario that he doesn't control. Who's to say that Brooklyn will take him. He could end up in Houston and never play and be out of the NBA in a few years. Besides who is the last star Brooklyn has developed. I just feel that a lot more can go wrong than usually goes right when you gamble like he's doing.

If I'm the Jazz, I probably have Tre Johnson ranked slightly ahead of Ace, but if VJ and Tre are both gone, and Ace is on the board at #5, I'd still probably take Ace.
If he drops to #5, I hope that the Jazz find another team willing to pay dearly to move up.

Re: Ace Bailey
As a Brooklyn fan, I would be very happy to select Ace at 8. I don't love him enough to move up and surrender extra assets for him, but at 8 he's a good gamble. People like Essengue, Jakucionis or Fears for us at 8, but I think that Bailey has a clearer path to stardom than any of them.

New Orleans and Washington will probably make a run at him. If I'm the Jazz, I'm not trading back more than a spot or two, and that assumes I'm completely enamored with Fears or Kon. Jazz should just take Tre Johnson and move on...

Wizards traded 2 2nd round picks to move up 1 spot to get Bilal. I would temper expectations here, at most probably a top 20 protected future 1st.

If we're talking about a one-pick move I definitely agree, just based on what we've seen historically. More than one pick? It'll depend on how big of a move and how motivated the other team might be. There's a range to be sure.
"Moving up a single spot is cheap enough, which makes sense when you consider the dynamics behind that conversation. For the team right in front of you to be willing to deal with you, they must tacitly let you know that they’re not as interested in your target, so there’s slightly less leverage than if they’re helping you leapfrog a bunch of other teams. Cash or second-rounders have historically been enough to move a single spot... Beyond that, it’s a little scattershot."

It's more likely the Pels or Nets that would want to get ahead of the Wizards to draft Ace.

Re: Ace Bailey
My guess is he saw how Sheppard and Dillingham were buried on playoff rosters and doesn't want to go through that. I'd personally bet on myself starting at SF for Philadelphia, but every guy thinks different. If he wants to try to manipulate the process to go to a certain spot, that's his right to do so, but it may backfire. Going to a worse team would guarantee him more minutes and opportunities.
I'm not one to look too much into stuff like this, but the red flags with both his on the court play and off the court decisions, I wouldn't draft him until Fears, Johnson, Edgecombe are gone. Just doesn't seem worth it to me. But I'd still take him at 8 or so.
