Nonsense. Mikal was one of or best players during that December run. He has several game winning blocks/steals this year and in the playoffs. The shyt this guy gets for being completely abused by Thibs is ridiculous.
It’s the easy thing to say and it is realgm in 2025, so …
That's just crazy. He has been getting **** since PRESEASON!Thibs was terrible at utilizing this team. Absolutely terrible.

He used to talk smack about the Knicks but I’d expect that from one of our opponents. Does fit our need for another shot creator and has the size to play next to Brunson. Downside is he hasn’t really shot that well the last couple years.
ain't he being paid in bitcoin?

i agree that thibs didn't run this offense properly at all and to be clear i was super hype on the mikal trade and was hoping it would happen last year. so i was extremely disappointed by his competitive effort for much of this season after seeing the intensity the other nova guys have. maybe it's because he hated the coach. at this point i hope so, because i need to see better next year

If there was a way to get a solid, durable starting Center that can play 25-28 minutes a night and provide good defense and everything, then I think a deal for Durant + Center for KAT could be beneficial.
However trading for Durant and getting no Center back would leave Mitch as the only proven Center on the roster which would be an enormous risk. Having an OG, KD, Mitch frontline from a health perspective looks very very risky.

How risk adverse is he? He re-upped Randle early after a terrible postseason. Signed a bunch of vets that same summer and spent the next summer using drafts pick to get off their contracts so he could clear space for a risky move in signing Brunson. He then traded away almost all the youth and draft picks available in a 1 year period. He re-upped Thibs early and paired him with KAT again after it didn't work out as well as many wanted in Minnesota. He somehow brought the Nova 4 together and broke it up immediately. Thibs was then fired before his extension kicked in after making it to the ECF. Only Mitch has somehow survived since his arrival and the roster has changed many times.
He is risky as hell imo and sometimes I honestly can't make sense of what he is doing

thats why its not being done.
Relying on KD to be healthy AND Mitch to be healthy is simply a risk we can't afford to take.

He was being asked to run through brick walls all night. Usually on one of the best players on the other team. Then being asked to stand in the corner on offense. Still managed 17+ on 50/35.4 playing solid to great defense. With NO offensive system. Filled in when Jalen went down just fine.
Thibs was the problem.

How about a 3-way...
NY Gets: Gobert, DDV, Shannon Jr., #17 pick
PHX Gets: KAT
MIN Gets: KD
Gobert / Mitch
OG / (Hortford?)
Mikal / Hart
DDV / Shannon Jr.
Brunson / Deuce
Who says no? (besides KD haha)

trading kat and not getting back an elite 2nd option offensively? we take a step back getting worse here and should be the ones saying no

i don't see thibs's issues and mikal's as mutually exclusive. thibs failed to design an offense that made brunson's or KAT's lives easier which was the whole point of making that trade. mikal stepped up in the playoffs for sure and i credit him for that but i think he had mental issues that are his own responsibility just like randle's were his

yeah the defense gets better and we add depth but your basically are going back to basically having Brunson do absolutely everything offensively (shot creation wise). Not ideal.

We become elite defensively. Solidify our rebounding and paint defense. Open the door for more touches for DDV/OG/Mikal who all showed they could thrive in NY when they get touches in rhythm.
This is more of a "team" approach instead of a top-heavy approach to offense. And this group is young enough to stay together for 3-4 years.
I'm a sucker for defense. I think we'd have enough offense to get to the Finals. Plus, we might get the Nova-4 boost we've all been waiting for...
