Buss Family Agree To Sell Majority Stake In Lakers To Mark Walter; Jeanie Buss To Remain Governor

Post#1 » by RealGM Wiretap » Wed Jun 18, 2025 9:00 pm

The Buss family has agreed to sell a majority ownership of the Los Angeles Lakers to Mark Walter, who is CEO and chairman of TWG Global. Jeanie Buss will continue to serve in her role as Governor of the Lakers after the sale.

Walter earned the first right of refusal if the Buss family ever decided to sell their 66 percent stake when he purchased Phil Anschutz’ 26 percent stake in 2021. Walter is also the primary owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Boston Celtics were also recently sold at a valuation of $6.1 billion.

Another piece to the Luka trade puzzle. An aging LeBron is only worth so much but Luka can demand that high price tag.

The price tag has nothing to do with who's on the roster.

Clearly defense is the difference between winning and losing for this team.

5 years lol Bron wont be playing.. Buyers remorse it's the lakers.. They are one of the most iconic franchises in the world I'd rather buy the lakers for 10 billion than the celtics for 6 billion also the lakers are able to sign FAs so they always make their way back..

I don't think people understand how much money Luka truly brings in on the international level.

You people seriously think the stock worth of the most famous and followed sport franchise of all time depends on any player? Even if it's Luka or Lebron?

Buyers remorse? L.O.L.

They gave 10 billions, yes. But they practically purchased money making machine.

Buss will remain governor after the sale just like Cuban still controlled the Mavs after his

This is the same group that owns the Dodgers. They're in it for the long term, not the next 5 years. The Dodgers have made smart investments in baseball and have put a lot of money into scouting and player development. They really seem to know their stuff. Whether that approach works in basketball, which has a lot more team chemistry and analytics of young players isn't as clear cut, remains to be seen.

It'll also be interesting to see if they can avoid rebuilding like the Dodgers seem to be doing. Baseball is different with no salary cap.
Go Knicks!! Go Mets!!

As for the Jets . . . just keep it entertaining.
