Nets/Sixers/Bucks/Suns not quite there
I like the scaffolding of this idea, but I am probably going to need feedback with some extra pick compensation.
Sixers trade PG, McCain, #3, Oubre, Drummond
get Durant, Cam Johnson.
Rationale: re-sign grimes and some of the other bench guys you had last year.
Embiid-Durant-Johnson-Grimes-Maxey -- probably the best 5 in the conference. Can they be healthy together?
My guess is that despite the cost of #3 and McCain, maybe they have to give more? They are shedding one of the worst contracts in the league IMO.
Bucks trade: Dame for PG
Rationale Dame can't play, PG can. This is purely to try to appease Giannis.
Obviously, I would like to have them give up more value, but they don't really have any other assets to deal and trading their most distant pick to move from a top 5 worst contract to probably the worst contract? seems like an overpay. If need-be Bucks can just be shoehorned out if there is a better landing spot for PG (Lakers? Pelicans?)
Suns trade: KD, Nick Richards
get Claxton, Drummond, Oubre
I think I need to find a way to get them some of the Nets late 1st round pick(s), but for now, this is where I landed. Claxton provides them with a proper age/match for Booker at center. Drummond is salary filler/depth and Oubre is a good role player at the wing. Again adding the Nets #26 and/or #27 here would make me feel better.
Finally, we have arrived at the Nets
Nets trade: Claxton, Cam Johnson
get Dame, Nick Richards, McCain, #3
Rationale: at #3 you are pretty much guaranteed a player who has superstar projection. Keeping Ace Bailey at home would be a cool move for the Rutgers kid. McCain was a candidate for ROY last year before the injury so he is a legitimate running mate for Bailey. I would also assume Nets would be leveraging their remaining cap space into obtaining RFA Kuminga and taking on salary ballast (Hauser) with future pick compensation. All this could make the Nets a sneaky good team(play-in contender) in the Leastern conference.

Kuminga/Clowney
Bailey/Whitehead

Re: Nets/Sixers/Bucks/Suns not quite there
So the 76ers are giving up both the 3rd pick and Jared McCain for a old Kevin Durant and Cam Johnson? This is yet another trade where the 76ers are mostly paying to get off of PG contract, while also watering down their significant assets in order to do. This is a disgusting overpay for a trade that doesn't make this team a contender.

Let's talk some facts.
Embiid is on a GIANT contract. He is wrong side of 30. He has significant injury concerns. Hope he is ready for training camp, but at his size/weight it's going to be a slow process (pun intended)
Paul George: IMO worst contract in the league. Still can be a useful role player, should be able to be what he was originally brought in to be (3rd option). Also injury plagued to some extent.
Maxey: Up and coming star. Not really a superstar, but no reason to put a ceiling on him. 24 years old. 6 good years (assuming average health) remaining.
Jared McCain: Nice combo guard. Can clearly score and performed well, better than expected out of the gate. Not a defensive threat yet. Not a playmaker yet, but obviously showed some good things.
#3 pick: Most likely Bailey, also could be Edgecomb or Tre Johnson. Can play a role early on, but it's fair to expect them to take time to round out their game. 2-3 year away from being a valid threat assuming they are not a bust
As you can see we have 3 different windows here. Turning #3 and McCain (the magic beans of the equation) into Durant and Cam puts the window in the now and actually gives you a diverse team as far as options go.
Unless your #3 pick comes in and is ready day 1 for a star-type role, I don't think they will be successful. Bringing a kid like that onto a vet team is how you get Wiseman/Moody/Kuminga/Darko etc.

Re: Nets/Sixers/Bucks/Suns not quite there
Embiid is too big of a question mark to push in more prime assets in an effort to win now.
If he's healthy, the supporting cast is already pretty good, and they can make moves to add before the deadline if things are trending well.

Sixers should not be going all in on Embiid's timeline at this point. They don't even know if he can play at this point. Maybe if Billy King or maybe even Colangelo was still the GM, then I could see this deal possibly happening.nykballa2k4 wrote:facothomas22 wrote:So the 76ers are giving up both the 3rd pick and Jared McCain for a old Kevin Durant and Cam Johnson? And I don't think its going to be that hard to rehab PG's value. He can still shoot high volume of 3s at a good clip while rebounding and playing D. Not to mention the ball handling skills. I believe if he can play consistently next year and the rest of the team sans Embiid is relatively healthy, it should rise.

I also have Jimmy Butler as a bad contract, but just to say thing about PG: I am assuming he is going to play roughly 60 games put up an efficient 18/6/4 line. Perfectly fine. But when you see that 54M price tag... that's the problem. For 20M? Great. For 35M? Ouch, but I can live. Now add those together... BLEH
My focus is on Maxey tbh. What is going to help Maxey be the best version of him. Putting him next to KD, Cam Johnson (2 long snipers) is a great way to do it. IDK who they would take at #3, but right now Bailey can't shoot. He is young, fast, has some good measurables, can score. Edgecomb, also can't really shoot (better than Bailey) Can defend, average athlete, plays the 2, but again, he needs to develop meaning he needs to be allowed to fail. Tre is young, can shoot, poor defender. Also two of these guys create a log jam with McCain (and possibly Grimes if that matters)
I am a Knicks fan, so Sixers keeping the pick and just letting it all just happen, I suppose, is good for my business, but I feel bad for the kid who gets taken in an environment where it will be hard to thrive.

Point 1: This exactly the reason why the 76ers should keep all of their assets or even break up the 3rd pick into additional picks. Emiid health is very much up in the air. It's not even a sure thing that Emiid will ever be healthy again. If Emiid is healthy and is playing at all NBA level next year, the 76ers are in good shape to make the playoffs and maybe even more. if Emiid is not healthy, the 76ers are screwed regardless which trade they make.
Point 2: Okay, PG contract is one of the worst in the NBA, and? The 76ers are not actively trying to move him right now. Especially not attaching the 3rd pick or Jared McCain to his contract in order to do, so other teams can leverage that in order to justify giving up less than than they would've otherwise.
Point 3: Maxey is already a star. He's never going to be a 1st option on a great team, but he's a good 2nd option. I wonder if Maxey is going to traded next year if the Emiid has another unhealthy season.
Point 4: Regardless who they pick or they they outright trade the pick for a win move, if Emiid isn't healthy, the 76ers are likely a lottery team again next year regardless. So lets say the 76ers stupidly decide to trade both the 3rd pick and Jared McCain for Kevin Durant and Cam Johnson, if Emiid plays like 25 games next year and looks even worse as a player than he did this past year, then what? They would have given up some of their most valuable assets to maybe make the play-in tournament if they're lucky with a unhappy Kevin Durant already looking at a different team to go. That would horrible asset management.
Simply put, there's no reason to trade out of the 1st round, while attaching quality young prospect to make a win now moves because the 76ers are not a win now team at this point, especially with Emiid uncertain health. Ultimately speaking, Daryl Morey and 76ers are simply going have to ride things out with PG and Emiid until their contracts expire and retool/rebuild in the meantime.

You're kinda proving the opposite point. Let's pretend the whatever the request to the Jazz (Markkanen or Collins/Sexton) are similar to Cam Johnson. Then the core of the trade is #5 vs. Durant. One trade is for the future vs. maximizing a short term window.nykballa2k4 wrote:facothomas22 wrote:nykballa2k4 wrote:

They would have given up some of their most valuable assets to maybe make the play-in tournament if they're lucky with a unhappy Kevin Durant already looking at a different team to go. That would horrible asset management.
Simply put, there's no reason to trade out of the 1st round, while attaching quality young prospect to make a win now moves because the 76ers are not a win now team at this point, especially with Emiid uncertain health. Ultimately speaking, Daryl Morey and 76ers are simply going have to ride things out with PG and Emiid until their contracts expire and retool/rebuild in the meantime.
https://www.si.com/nba/jazz/news/paul-george-trade-talks-include-utah-jazz-potential-suitor"I do think it's true that the Philadelphia 76ers are interested in trading down to number five, potentially, if they can get off the Paul George deal and that contract," Larsen said. "I don't think necessarily that may not make a lot of sense for the Jazz, given how long that contract is and how iffy Paul George was. I don't think the Jazz are going to take that offer, but I do think that's an offer that has been presented."
Granted that offer is HEAVILY favoring Sixers (which is why it hasn't happened) but this is the dance...
Not really. Sixers are exploring if they can trade down and get rid of PG for useful players. Lauri I have as > Cam in talent, but worse value based on contract. So already the #3 is on the table with Paul George. So #5 and lets say Lauri was the ask... if a negotiation is had, it's possible it could expand to Lauri, #5 for #3 PG, McCain, future pick(s)(this is Ainge after all). It's still losing a more premium draft asset for cap-relief and going all-in now. Since the primary function here seems to be getting off of PG and still getting a player of interest in the draft, I would imagine that similar offers are going to be made to Wizards, Pelicans, Nets.
Pels would be interesting since it would likely involve McCollum, but could involve Murray (same duration, 20M less) and then Kelly O for added salary.

What would maximize Maxey is not snipers. It's rather inexplicable to see that argued as logic for a deal sending McCain out in the same post.
If that was your goal, you'd go get a big backcourt initiator like Harper. None of this makes sense.

There is no report that McCain is part of the deal. Clearly you're going to disagree, but I can promise you that there won't be any win now type moves from Morey where they trade away #3 and/or McCain at least until Embiid looks like himself.nykballa2k4 wrote:zaz102 wrote:You're kinda proving the opposite point. The only way they are out the door is for more or better assets (e.g. #2).

also no Durant coming back. This is just proof of concept that Sixers are looking to use #3 (willing to move down within reason) to dump PG

George is probably more cooked than post-Achilles Dame and has a worse contract, doesn’t move the needle at all anymore. No reason for the Bucks to do this.

The Nets are getting way too much here.
Philadelphia hangs up and blocks your number, which torches the whole idea anyway.

Not trying to be a defensive Sixers fan but why do people think PG is 'cooked' now? He had one of his best seasons ever year before, and last season he didn't have any major injuries or anything. He had a couple lingering minor injuries but would've played most of the season if they weren't the sixers chasing the basement too. He definitely DP:Tanking for the last couple months.
Not arguing for this trade at all, but it seems like the majority of people went from cautiously optimistic about PG to 'what a fricking disaster, he's done.' I think he's a risky deal but last season didn't do anything in my eyes to make him more than a usual health gamble. If he's healthy he's going to be a nice two-way player who might be really good, but always a real chance he misses chunks and maybe even the PO.

Yeah that part is bananas. Almost thought this whole trade was a lost sig bet with a Nets fan or something.
Seems like OP is sleeping on McCain some here, which is understandable. For people that weren't paying attention, McCain maybe seemed like he played like a solid role playing shooter or something, nice rookie who can be a rotation guy. Especially if you just glance at his #s. But that's cuz his season was so short and literally half of it was the first month when he barely played--as a starter he posted 24/3/4 on 60%+ TS, and it didn't seem like a fluke or anything. Not clearing out a space for him in the HOF like some Sixers fans but there were legit reasons to start dreaming big about him.
