Stephon Castle shot 28.5% from 3 last season. I know thats rookie shooting numbers and guys can get better. But Castle shot 27% in college. Nothing in the Celtics playbook with the Mazzulla Ball system is about trading backwards in shooting %.
In the worst draft since 2013 Steph Castle won rookie of the year. In 2013 Michael Carter Williams won ROY. Who cares
If there is a JB to Spurs trade, I'd be shocked if Steph Castle is coming back as the main piece. I mean, assuming Joe is still gonna be the coach. It's just not a fit

It depends on how Brad values this year’s players and you don’t know the answer. Also, SAS has other future 1st with value. JB also makes a LOT of money.

Gant wrote:Bobby Marks: D-White trade would command ‘Desmond Bane-plus' offer

"I think it would have to be a Desmond Bane-plus type offer," Marks said of a potential White trade on NBC Sports Boston's The Off C'season special. "I love Derrick White. Every team needs a Derrick White. I think his salary is really good at four (years) for 118 (million). I think he provides tremendous value for you. I think if you did a Jrue (Holiday) trade, you're probably sliding him. He's probably gonna play on the ball a little bit more.

"It's hard for me because I do think you have to have high-level players around. Jayson (Tatum) is gonna return eventually, and he's gonna return probably better than he was, that you have to have high-level players still around him."

IMO if there are fireworks with the Celtics this off-season White will be at the center. His value will never be higher and he is the archetypical 'final piece of a championship roster' that GMs tend to over pay.

Example only: A team like Houston could see him as the missing piece, and could offer Reed, Whitmore, #10 and 2 or 3 future firsts to get White while leaving their entire rotation intact.

Can't see Stevens dealing the 2024 Final's MVP for the #2 pick and basically doing a 3+ year punt...

I can't really see it either. But I'm ready to find out whatever Brad and Front Office has decided to do.

I've switched to rooting for the Thunder in the Finals so we can get the season over and done asap
and just open the floodgates of offseason transactions

I never said he was.

But let's also remember how we won the 2024 nba title. Tatum and Brown. How'd we get them? We traded for picks, those picks landed in the top 3 and we drafted them.

That strategy worked pretty good back then.

and the Celtics waited 7 years! Tatum is not going to wait 7 years. Haliburton took 5 years to reach the NBA Finals.

Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren are one win away in year 3 (Chet with only 114 regular season games) as the second and third best players on their team. Tatum went to G7 of the ECF vs Lebron as a rookie with Brown in year 2.

I mean, the Thunder were the 1 seed in the west last season with chet and Jdub as their 2nd and 3rd best players (it was their 2nd NBA season, technically it was only Chet's rookie year since he sat out his whole first season w/ injury) and this year they're about to win the NBA title in Chet/J-dub's 3rd season (technically just Chet's 2nd season)..

And they have a top 5 player in the league as their best player (SGA)..we have a top 5 player in the league as our best player (Tatum).

It's not that farfetched.

This article says Tatum will miss most of, if not all of next season..it says we are focused on trimming payroll this offseason..The article also says we're looking to trade up in the draft, with JB, white, KP and Jrue as possible trade chips to move up.

Putting 2 and 2 together, we pretty much are punting next season. But I think Harper will be very good, very early in his career so I don't think we'd be punting 3+ yrs..think we'd be in good position to contend once Tatum is back to 100%.

Yeah that's a crazy number!

Lakers fans seem quite surprised about it, but excited. When the Celtics sold they were predicting our new owners would be cheap and burn the team down, but now the Lakers have new owners and the reaction is the opposite haha.

Edit: it looks like the new owner was actually already a minority owner, and now he's the majority owner. So this perhaps doesn't change much in the long run but idk.

This sale makes sense these teams are at an all time high and the growth won’t be as high moving forward

Good points, but Tatum's not Shai. Tatum has yet to prove he's a superstar in the Finals.

I mean the new Lakers owner already owns one of the most successful sports franchises in North America and has poured a ton of money into it. The new Celtics owner had to sell off a huge chunk of the franchise to a private equity firm (who spoiler alert care about the bottom line far more than the on court product) just to secure the financing for the deal. Those two things are not the same.

Yeah Vassell is a better piece for Boston. I am not really interested in Castle. He may have won rookie of the year but he was not even close to the best rookie imo….and yes a very week class

Williams should win the Finals MVP based on what I have seen.

Larry_Russell wrote:Brown to Pelicans

Kelly Olynyk, Jrue Holiday, #28 to Toronto

RJ Barrett, Trey Murphy 3, Hawkins, (Salary filler from Toronto ~ 7 mill) and #7 to Boston (sheds about 21 million)

Ship off Hauser with the #7 to move up, or just stay and draft a PF to fill in for Tatum for the year.

White/Pritchard
RJ/Scheierman
Murphy3/Hawkins
?????/Horford
KP/Kornet

I'm not a huge RJ fan. Don't think NOP makes sense for JB. But maybe Harper does?

BOS in: 7, 14, Trey Murphy III, NOP 2029 1st, Olynyk
BOS out: Brown

SAS in: Brown, 28
SAS out: #2, #14, Vassel and Keldon

NOP in: #2, Vassell, Keldon
NOP out: Trey, #7, 2029 1st, KO

This feels reasonable on all sides. I could honestly ask for more to trade JB, but trying to keep it somewhat palatable on the other sides.

SAS gets JB, and their costs are over with now. Average to Meh to bad salary and their 2 super valuable picks. But, nothing future. And we even give #28 back so they at least have a pick this year to enable trading future picks if they do other deals pre-draft.

NOP gets to upgrade from #7 to #2 for Trey, taking on some playable wings salary, and a future pick. I chose 2029 since we don't have one. If I ask for more from anyone, it's NOP adding another pick.

BOS gets a really good, young, JB replacement, two lotto picks in a good draft, and a future pick.

BOS doesn't actually save much money. You still do Jrue, KP and possibly Hauser deals to duck the tax. Without those 3, you have $30M below the tax for money you get back for them and Kornet. But only 2 roster spots left (since you added 4 players here). So, more work to do but plenty of maneuverability to do it.
