If they can't afford to keep a guy they clearly want...we can't either

Now that the Bane trade has happened, the priority moving forward is replacing certain salary slots with cheaper, cost controlled players in those salary slots.

Reid is going to want a significant increase over his current salary which will send him far beyond what Carter currently makes and will make when his salary bumps up.

The Magic already have four high priced players that they're going to barely be able to afford, there's really no way they can have another one.

I’ve said it a couple times at least as well. They think Naz Reid might outprice himself from MIN with like a I’m guessing 24 mil/3-4 yr contract hunt. I know the consensus in MIN may be we need to keep Naz more than NAW too, but that’s also easier to say with Ant and McDaniels kind of in NAW’s spots.

So WCJ is like 16 mil aav/3 yr contract that is cheaper.

Magic make it make sense by probably trading Goga into exception space and not having 3 centers at 18 mil, 11, 7 anymore. Essentially, I would pay Naz, Mo, and the 3rd string is never more than like 3 mil but we always seem to do well with big men scouting. For example, we would have probably kept Jay Huff in this scenario a year ago because well, he was literally with us back then.

Ironically enough, if MIN doesn’t take the freed money and offer NAW much more than 14 mil, then NAW could go to ORL in MLE free agency also. It would draw semi-similar parallels to when DAL let Brandon Bass go to ORL thinking they’d have the upper hand on signing Marcin Gortat away from ORL. ORL matched Gortat’s contract and took both players away from DAL. I don’t think we can get a double coupe against a WCF team though, but maybe the attempt lands one of Naz or NAW.

So if Walter Clayton is gone who do we want the Magic to draft?

I like Will Riley in that spot...although he apparently feasted on other higher-ranked guys in a workout for NOLA - so he might well move up too.

Every year i could do phd from the draft and now i am just catching up knowing prospects.

I like Raynaud like many others here but i think he will be gone. My favourite is propably Ben Saraf with size, handle and iq.
Then we can go with other promising centers: Wolf, Kalkbrenner, Broome.
I also like Sion James a lot.
My money is on Banchero going number 1 !

I’m all for a young big personally as we don’t really have youth there.

Clayton is intriguing. I would be excited what he brings if we pick him up.

FWIW i'm staying at the AC downtown near the Kia Center and this morning I saw someone waiting to be picked up that looked like Asa Newell. I didn't know who it was but I got basketball player vibes from him and given the proximity I figured this is likely a hotel the Magic use to put up prospects who are in town working out. I went through the mock drafts looking for players that looked like the guy and Asa Newell jumps out as the most likely if that was indeed the case, lol. Did a quick google search and Magic are reportedly interested in him.

*shrugs* 90% chance it's nothing, and even if it's him could just one of a few dozen players in town to workout, lol.

Freak athlete...went to Montverde...Destin native...seems to be mocked out of our reach but very interesting...not rated as a great defender, not an impressive wingspan (just under 7' and he's 6'10.25 barefoot) but it's not negative...vertical lob threat, offensive rebounder, willing to take 3's, interesting prospect - I guess more of a raw athlete? Only 19/Freshman.

Maxime has better offensive game and better rebounder than Kalk, but Kalk has better rim protection than Maxime. Maxime’s game is today’s basketball.

I like Maxime better.

I dunno about equal... Maxime shoots 3s. Kalk was te highest fg% of the ncaa because he shoots near the basket and goes for oops a lot.

Yeah... better rim protector probably.

Yeah... better rim protector probably.

I mean its a MUCH smaller sample size (193 vs 61), but they did make 3s at the same rate last year (34%)

Not saying hes as good a shooter, but i think Klakbrenner can still make open 3s and be enough of a threat as a stretch big. hes not gonna break down the defender and shoot over him, but if left open he can make it

Lol i hope Kalk does shoot over hos defender. At 7'2 250lbs its gonne be worrisome that he cant shoot over 80% of the league at least.

Maximenis a better rebounder? Is that due to skill or os that because Kalk has a better supporting cast?

I just learned that they are doing the two day NBA draft again, so **** stupid.

Sometimes it really feels like NBA has jumped the shark. I dont know what Adam Silver is doing with a lot of his new ideas.
