How was the 91-93 Bulls a superteam? If thats the case the Bubble Lakers were a superteam.

Good point. The talent pool of the 90s NBA was diluted due to various expansion teams popping up.

Go read up on the control that KG had in dictating how that team was put together. It was 100% player driven.

Boston had to trade real assets to assemble their team. Here’s an article. I’m guessing you’ll say it’s wrong. KG saying yes, I’m ok to join Boston (which is what I remember from being in the moment as well) is nowhere even close to what Wade, Lebron and Bosh did.

https://www.si.com/nba/2015/07/27/boston-celtics-kevin-garnett-danny-ainge-ray-allen-paul-pierce-trade

Who cares what they gave up? The whole trade doesn't happen if KG doesn't orchestrate it so he can play with Pierce and Ray Allen.

Where was the KG orchestration part in that article?

It chronicles how the GMs talked about such a deal regularly over a period of time. Ainge tried for over a year. Yeah, KG had to approve it and only did so after they got Allen.

That’s still nothing like what the Heat did. The players got together on their own and decided to make it happen.

Trying to make these two things equivalent is disingenuous af.

Garnett literally only agreed to a deal if he ended up on a superteam.

How does one guy waiving his NT clause to join two other great players =

3 guys got together behind the scenes without any officials and decided to team up???

If you think that’s the same thing, then I just don’t know what to say anymore.

Where have I ever said that the Celtics were put together the same as the Heat? I just said the Celtics had a superteam before the Heat because KG decided to make it happen.

If Jordan/Pippen/Rodman and Jordan/Pippen/Grant are superteams then is Shaq/Penny/Grant and Thomas/Dumars/Rodman superteams?

And why do people call the 90s the expansion era? From 66-76 the NBA added 12 teams.

There was a ton of talent added to the league from 86-97: Jordan, Hakeem, Barkley, Stockton, Ewing, Malone, Rodman, Shawn Kemp, Pippen, Grant, Payton, Mutumbo, Shaq, Mourning, Robinson, Mullin, CWebb, Penny, Kidd, Hill, Miller, Sheed, KG, AI, Nash, Ray Allen, Kobe, Marbury, Peja, Jermaine O’Neal, Duncan, Billups, Tmac, ect…there’s nothing to rewrite.

Jordan fans aren’t the ones claiming factual inaccuracies in this thread, like that Ron Harper was an all-star or the Bulls made it to the ECF in 94.

What the Heat did defines a super team. What they did is what made the term part of the common basketball vernacular. No matter how much Bron stans (not saying you’re one) want to rewrite history.

If the Magic with Shaq and Penny had won a title, then IMO they would have been a super team. However, since they never actually won a title, that team was only a theoretical super team (or a super team on paper) as far as I'm concerned. The Pistons were a dynasty between 89 and 90 since they won two in a row, and those teams were super teams.

So the Warriors weren’t a superteam when KD decided to join them?

They were a home grown team with a massive +1 enabled by one of the league’s historical anomalies with the cap spike.

So they weren’t formed the way the Heat were. But sure you could think of them as a super team because it came right after what the Heat did and I don’t think KD would’ve had the cajones to make that move without seeing Lebron do it first.

Similar to Miami, it also exhibited the new culture of star players (Draymond) talking and recruiting each other to very intentionally team up.

That’s not what KG did. The front offices made it happen and did the work.

Why do you keep bringing up the Heat. I don't give a **** what the Heat did.

Here's wiipedia's opening paragraph on Superteams:

A superteam in the National Basketball Association (NBA) is an arbitrary term to describe a team that uses player acquisitions (via trades or free agency) in a short period of time to create a higher than average concentration of top-level players. While there is no official definition, it is generally viewed as a team with three or more Hall of Fame, All-NBA, or perennial All-Star players that join together to pursue an NBA championship.[1][2][3]

What in the hell else would you call what the Celtics did?

Applying the term “super team” to any pre-Heatles team is a history rewrite.

Of course there were always great teams before. But never did 3 top guys in their prime decide to join one team together until the Heat….and that’s when the term became commonplace.

Plenty of deniers though!

So we can't retroactively define something using a term that wasn't used during that era, despite it being perfectly fitting? Simply because you don't want to say MJ was on a superteam?

Exactly. Who the hell cares? People are so hellbent on claiming MJ wasn't on a superteam, because they want to be able to use that term slanderously towards LeBron  the hoops people will jump through to defend MJ's mythology. We're really trying to act like the 95-96 Bulls weren't completely stacked relative to the league? It's ok to admit that.

Say it with me now. SUPERTEAM

No, not really. Scottie, Michael and Horace were all drafted, and I think with the exception of Cartwright, all the rotation players had been on Chicago for at least a couple years.

I mean, Rodman was like Ben Wallace in my opinion, so that's a borderline all-star right?
