Funny how the NFL never has an issue with ratings today despite streaming services these days.

I wonder why that is?

Would you watch football games on only your phone?

You didn't answer the question. Why is it that the NFL doesn't have these ratings issues yet the NBA does?

Even the NFL draft this year had better ratings than the Finals this year.

I did answer the question.

I did answer the question.

So the answer is to zoom out the basketball broadcast?

You cannot cast or watch the NFL on another screen (PC or TV), if I must spoonfeed it. Therefore the NFL has far lower streaming numbers(as a %) that are not included in ratings. Its measuring apples and oranges.

If I want watch predetermined games I watch wwe, any basketball fans who respect himself, cant endure any game refereed by Scott Foster likes.

I want the rules to be followed, all rules and fair referees. I dont want to see gather step bull, release step, 5 step layups, 3 steps step backs, off arm offensive fauls etc etc,

I won't renew my league pass (after 20 years) because I can't stand this disgusting thing.

LOL!!! Fox just had 127 million viewers for the last Super Bowl, a new record number!

If Jordan and the Bulls were still around they would still be setting TV records the problem is there hasn’t been a transcendent player or team at that level since 1998, not Kobe/Shaq, not Duncan, not Lebron, not Curry or Tatum and as much as the NBA tries to force it’s just not gonna happen.

I'm a Jordan guy, but Lebron has absolutely been box office. It was really after the 2010 decision that the NBA blew up in popularity

Eh. The "boring" label has followed him his entire career. He wasn't an electric player in the way that MJ, Kobe, Vince, AI, even Wade were. Not to mention the last 10 years he's coasted for large stretches of the regular season or even taken games off entirely.

Yeah, Bron's star power has always been a bit exaggerated. He is a big star no doubt, but he also depends on the other major stars in the league to generate high ratings. The highest rated finals post MJ are the Warrior/Cavs series and Steph (2nd biggest star of this era) being on the other side had a lot to do with it. However, the 2007 and 2020 Finals were among the lowest rated finals of all-time with Lebron being really the only mainstream headliner. This isn't a knock on LeBron, all of the NBA star players are like that (Warriors/Celtics in 2022 didn't do so hot). These guys generally bring high ratings when they play against one another, but on their own the ratings aren't that great.

It’s Official: Streaming Is Now the King of TV
In May, more Americans watched television on streaming than on cable and network television combined, Nielsen said. It is the first time that has happened over a full month.

If there is too much parity, the league doesn't benefit as much. The NBA had the same problem in the 70s.

Throughout NBA history, dynasties have benefited the league by bringing more casual viewers (there are more casual viewers than hardcore viewers, that's a fact). If dynasties and super teams are "bad for the NBA," the league should have suffered greatly during the 50s and 60s when the Celtics were winning all those titles. Guess what? The NBA benefited from those dynasties and super teams. Later on in the 80s, the NBA benefited from the Celtics and Lakers dynasties and superteams. Then in the 90s, the NBA benefited from the Bulls dynasties and super teams.

Some folks just don't want to accept reality.

the last three games have inched upward over the first two games, but the finals are still at an historic low

to me this means people are paying attention and tuning in when they think appropriate or worthy.
this also means they are ONLY the people who are watching.

the general public, the demographic that silver has been targeting, doesn't care about the finals because they don't know anyone or any team

therefore the next agenda on silver's plate will be how to get lamelo on the spurs

It was a game 7 so it was obvious it'd be higher rated than other series that ended earlier.

The ratings overall were still down. The fact that it averaged out as low as it did even with one of the games being so highly rated paints a pretty bad overall picture.

Fail finals series in general. The IT factor just isn't there with these 2 teams, their star players also don't have IT.

In fact I think the thing I felt most strongly about this year was how bad the officiating was and clearly in favor of OKC. Snoozefest
