I didn’t realize how much judge has cooled down… it’s crazy saying that considering he’s still hitting 366… but I remember not too long ago he was at 395…

Still can't believe the Rays came back from 8-0. Orioles are so trash.

The real question that needs to be asked is- how can Tampa be consistently a very good baseball team (outside of being 80-82 last year), on one of the lowest payrolls in MLB year in and year out?

They are spending about 157 million less than the Jays this year on their payroll, and have a slightly better record than them. Give credit to their great scouting staff and front office for putting together very good teams, with the fraction of the payrolls of the big spenders.

Tough past 4 games for Kirk. 0 for his last 15. The guy has been fantastic for over a month, so he was due for some struggles.

He feels now like what Barger was doing at the early part of the season. Lots of hard contact. Minimal whiffs. No results.

It was expected but he also carries the whole offense on his shoulders, when he goes they all go but when he doesn't they look like they're supposed to look which is an ok team.

They always have good pitching with years of control, they really know how to scout them. I can only imagine how better they would be if Franco wasn't in legal trouble.

They are great at building and using their bullpen. They only have 2 starters with winning records, and are 8 games over .500.

They are young and athletic with great speed up and down their order, and have a middle of the order that can hit the long ball.

Whats crazy is, they have the pieces now to make some trades at the deadline and really improve the roster. And to be honest, they may have to rethink both Gimenez and Santander. I wouldn’t be against admitting those were mistakes and trading both of them away. Neither has really given them much, and they actually have played their best baseball without them.

Struggling vets:
Santander- .577 OPS
Gimenez- .601 OPS

Their replacements:
Clement- .752 OPS (1.167 OPS vs LHP)
Barger- .850 OPS
Lukes- .751

Sucks that we couldn’t get Alonso, he’s been having a great year.

I suspect Vladdy will get plunked today... possibly the first at bat. Not the at the head type, but in the middle of upper the leg / butt type.

3 hit batters in game 1. Carroll in game 2 and he got hurt. None of it is intentional, but its just a message sent back.
Jays did the same thing to Aaron Judge last summer, after the Yanks had hit 6 guys or so in a series - none intentional. And there was nothing of it after.

How much of the Gimenez and Santander contracts do they want to eat? They are both under the water contracts right now?

Neither are going anywhere, nor should anybody be writing them off based on less than 2 months of baseball.

Lol.

They signed Santander to a 5 year deal. They aren't going to eat the contract and dump him because he played 50 games poorly and then got hurt in year one. It also sends a horrible message to any future free agent ("please sign here, but you better play well right away, or else we'll have to conclude it was a mistake signing and ship you away" - yeah that'll be an enticing sales pitch).

Gimenez also got hurt and is hitting for a 103 wRC+ since coming back from the DL. Nothing amazing, but give these guys some room to breathe before coming to these asinine conclusions. You also need Gimenez because he can actually play SS well in the scenario where Bichette isn't resigned.

My partner has just pointed out to me that between the first two games, the Jays actually had back-to-back-to-back home runs, with Bo and Addie to end game 1, followed immediately by Bo in the very next Jays at bat the next day.

Can't imagine that that's happened often before.
