Edey to SAS

Post#1 » by esvl » Thu Jun 19, 2025 3:27 pm

Edey
GG Jackson

for

Sochan

SAS would create a twin towers duo 2.0. Edey will have time to mature behind/next to Wemby to ultimately make SAS absolutely dominate in the paint for years ahead.

MEM would get their playmaking big wing defender they have been looking.

seems like really terrible value for Memphis. This is a huge gamble that Sochan could stay on the court offensively in meaningful games. Spurs let him play on ball just to see because they were tanking. Then they brought in Chris Paul so they could start developing their young players and have a competent offense.

I very highly doubt it would be that easy to get edey. I could be wrong but I think Memphis values edey highly.

Sochan anf GG Jackson likely have about the same value…late 1st or good 2nd. No reason for Edey to be in this or for Memphis to overpay.

The trade is missing at least #14 going to Memphis.

Sochan has better stats than Avdija at the same age, whose 3pt % was the same crap but then drastically improved. If we can get him for GG alone, that would be a strike I thought

Holy crap, 2 good deal for the Spurs in a day? I had to pinch myself.

Anyway, to answer the original post, this is a good value deal for the Spurs because 1) Though I believe in Sochan, he still has significant question marks ne needs to answer. His shot has improved (especially from the line but also from 3) but it's still a long way to go 2) He's young (just turned 22, younger or about the same than some first rounders this year) but he's already 3 years into his rookie deal, which means he needs to get paid, and that's a risk either way 3) Edey is already a useful NBA player with 3 more years on a rookie scale deal
GG Jackson I don't much care for, he's got talent but he doesn't seem like a Spurs kind of guy, so I wouldn't do a straight up or a deal with him as the certerpiece.

I feel like this is an overpay by Memphis but I'd rather keep Sochan honestly. GG Jackson does not fit the Spurs culture imo, and Edey is not that good to begin with. If Sochan's shot ever improves (and he has been putting in a ton of work), he is going to be a very useful player for us. I'd rather hang onto him for now
