I don’t think that’s fair to say. He’s focused on what he believes is the best situation for him like other draft picks before him, but he’s getting horrible advice and going about the wrong way. If you want to target a team lower, you go and kill your workouts and convince them that you’re worth trading up to draft, but you still need to play the NBA game.

Maybe he has an understanding with a team - the potential problem is that if he kills his workouts then maybe a team that he doesn't want to draft him does exactly that in part maybe because of his strong workouts - It's tricky either way but it's his career. Of course, if he slides in the draft, then he has himself & his team to blame - would make for fun tv.

Seems like wishful thinking. It's not always about work ethic, some players just don't have it

and most guys have more talent with subpar work ethics and are out of the league by their 2nd deal

I was talking about shooting specifically, I'm not denying the importance of work ethic in general. You can't assume a guy with a broken jumpshot is going to turn into a decent shooter just because he works hard

I think we’ve had enough non-shooters on this team over the past few years. I’m not really down to add another one.

That's fair, but what are your options at 9? Main options seem to be:

Derik Queen
CMB
Danny Wolf

Only CMB can hold his own on defense, while Queen is a non-shooter and Wolf more theoretical. Other SG types overlap with our current players too much.

I think the best option for shooting will likely be Jase Richardson at 9. He can shoot from three levels and I think he is so underrated just because of his combine measurements.

Would've flourished on those Houston Harden teams.

Another solid role player. He’s going to be good in the NBA, in the mold of a Jonathan Isaac if I had to guess. The problem is, we need guys who will go out there and get it. We needed a top 5 guy, otherwise we’re just improving our depth.

If he was a Jonathan Isaac level defender with that shot-chart, he'd be a lock at #3

I love guys like Fleming because they know their role and they do it well. Rebound and defend on defense, finish around the basket and hit open 3s on offense. Doesn't think he's KD out there. His size and style of play transfer very well to the NBA game and he's going to be valuable rotation guy.

Except I didn’t say he’s Jonathan Isaac, did I? I said he’s in the mold of Jonathan Isaac.

The Raps last 2 1st rounders were shooting guards / wings in Dick and JaKobe. They added Ingram, IQ, Barrett.

The lineups they dressed were missing so many guys that we didn't get to see it this past season though.

Essengue is in the mold of Isaac. Fleming is like Duren, less jacked but shoots the 3.

Sir, Fleming is nothing like Duren.

I just remember him being outplayed by Queen in the tourney.

Just remember that while Queen had 31 points and 3 boards in a loss, here were the stat lines of Michigan's bigs:

D Wolf 24/14/4
Vlad Goldin 25/10

In their previous match-up Queen had 17/12 in a win, while the bigs had:
D Wolf 20/8/4
V Goldin 20/15/3

People are going to eat with Queen defending.

Nah - keep em coming. I will take the misses if it means we end up with Anunoby's and Siakam's.

You can learn to shoot. You can't teach athletic ability or size.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

While it is risky to some degree, I am a big fan of Hansen Yang. He is so incredibly skilled at his size and his body/movement really improved the past year.

;ab_channel=LeagueHim

My only worry for him is that he speaks through an interpreter. That is going to be hard for him. At least, I think Toronto will be a very supportive environment for him with the Chinese community/media.

This kid is who I really want more than any other prospect. Usually, I’m fairly low on Chinese prospects unless their name is Yao Ming, but Hansen Yang is the next up for me. Not only can he play, but he’s going to be a marketing gold mine.
