If true, has Ace Bailey written all over it

That doesn’t make any sense to me. LaMelo is not a ball hog at all, if you have any talent whatsoever he’s going to get you lots of open looks in transition and find you in the halfcourt

Has LaMelo’s reputation tanked that much that people think he’s a shot chucker now? Does anyone even watch basketball?

Melo was definitely a ball hog this past season. Not taking any shots at him, but he was chucking away for most of the season. Had he stayed healthy he was definitely going to be top 3 in shot attempts.

Saying that he actually had to shoot a lot given all the injuries we dealt with.

But yeah I agree in general Melo shares the ball for the most part. Why would anyone not want to play with him is crazy.

Not wanting to play with LaMelo is boring clickbait, i wanna hear a prospect say he’s got no interest playing in Charles Lee’s idea of an offensive system. Anyone who says that would be my new top prospect

I would have much more respect if someone just didn’t want to play in Charlotte, we are an embarrassment and have been for over two decades at this point. The franchise is in shambles and has shown no ability to compete. Honestly, I wouldn’t even be offended, I’d probably agree with them.

But why take a shot at LaMelo specifically? He’s the only one who’s any good!

Even if we decided to trade LaMelo I just don't see many suitors.

Houston is the only realistic team that comes to mind.

indulging for a minute. my ranks of who it might have been...
1. fears - most logical since melo blocks his path to being the heliocentric guard. utah, wiz, pels, rapts, nets dont really have an established star at pg. The source could have said something way less controversial " My client would prefer not to get drafted by Charlotte because they already have melo" And then by way of phone tag that message gets bastardized
2. ace - cause he's obv getting bad advice
3. jaku - Similar reasons to fears
4. vj - I'm reaching here but if he thinks he should have the ball in his hands or maybe he just thinks melo is too unserious
5. denim - Really using the term lottery pick loosely here.

So let’s get with it Houston! You’ve got lots of good players…give us some and some picks for a “star”. KD doesn’t want to go there anyway. How about:

Send Melo to Houston for Jabari Smith, Dylan Brooks, pick #10. We could even include our #34 pick if necessary. It works! Tried to find some way to include Sheppard, or Green, but the only trade machine comb that succeeded was Brooks & Smith.

https://www.espn.com/nba/trademachine?tradeId=25n3fmhq

Then go get our future PG at pick 4, and a future starter at 10 (maybe Carter Bryant). OR…trade 4 & 10 plus a future crappy 1st for #2 and Harper.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Eh.

Houston doesn't move me unless they present a real Godfather offer that doesn't set us back 5 years.

The thing is there is no godfather offer for LaMelo.

He hasn't proved he can stay healthy and hasn't shown he can lead the team to wins. He's basically viewed as a flashy exciting talent that doesn't play winning basketball around the league.

This idea that we are gonna get real value for LaMelo is just not realistic. LaMelo's value speaks for itself.

There was no Godfather offer for Mark Williams until there was one. An unprotected 1st plus unprotected swap. Plus a player in Knecht.

We would've lost zero ground selling Mark.

Same applies to LaMelo.

I guess we disagree on what a godfather offer is.

I don't think what we received for Mark was a godfather offer. Knecht was a nice offensive player but he played no defense. He was literally benched after the trade by the Lakers. That 1st wasn't going to be valuable with Luka on the roster.

Trading Mark for that return kept us on our trajectory because Knecht was going to contribute right away (even though from the bench) and we could've pocketed that draft capital longterm, absorbing the up front loss of picks we can trade now (Magic, Mavs, Heat).

These LaMelo proposals set us back 5 years.

The owners would not ask Peterson to seek out those deals.

Peterson doesn’t have the guts to trade Melo, outside of an overpay, which isn’t happening with his injury history. So if folks here propose “Godfather” deals, it’s more wizzing in the breeze than even the more realistic ones we suggest.

Seems like LaMelo proposals across the spectrum of value are a non-starter.

The vultures have moved on to Mark Williams.

What do you mean guts?

What have we won with LaMelo?

We have accomplished nothing with him. Trading him would only hurt on the business side of things as he's one of the more popular players in the league. Other than that we are not losing much in the Win/Loss column. We have been a lottery team with LaMelo since we drafted him.

There is no guts when it comes to trading LaMelo. There won't be riots like when Dallas traded Luka.

Yeah he appears to be destined for a trade by this front office, which is why I am concerned they will pick Maluach…but surely not with pick 4. If they trade back with the Nets to get the 8 & 19, then the next LONG term project is likely coming here. At 8 I’d rather they take a chance on Jaku, or even Bryant.

In fact if we are keeping LaMelo I would say we need to be looking to trade that pick for an established player. I like Ace, but im realistic he's not going to be good enough to change us overnight neither will VJ or Kon.

Go get a Sabonis or Bam and really make a move for the playoffs. It's no reason we can't be what Detroit was last season. We have talent, we just need a experienced established player who can impact winning.

The reasons you cite are exactly what I’m talking about. Melo is a name, a sizzle, is famous, a razzle dazzle celebrity and one time all star. Regardless of his inability to propel this team forward, and despite his childish immature approach to basketball and life, it would take courage to make that move absent either a “Godfather” offer, or an obvious fire sale dump because he’s become horrible.

Right now Melo is still perceived by some teams as having that superstar potential “if he can just have better luck on the health front”. I count the Hornets brass and owners among those who believe this.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
