SAS/NOP: Un, 2, Trey... 7
Honestly not sure if I've seen this one exactly. Apologies if so.
SAS in: 7, Trey Murphy III, NOP 2029 1st, Olynyk
SAS out: #2, Vassell and Keldon
NOP in: #2, Vassell and Keldon
NOP out: 7, Trey Murphy III, NOP 2029 1st, Olynyk
SAS consolidates/upgrades Vassell/KJ to Murphy III for not adding Harper to their PG mix. Still good prospects at 7 & 14.
NOP downgrades at wing but gets the possible superstar PG.
Harper gets the wheel without DJM, and seems like a good fit even when he's back.

Don’t love it for New Orleans as I think Murphy can be a 25/5/5 guy next year, and his contract is a steal. I really like a lot of guys available at 7. Kon would be a great fit with that squad.
Plus, Pelicans can’t be giving up future picks and their 2nd best player for a rookie and big long term contracts for 2 guys that are just borderline rotations guys on good teams.
I love the idea for the Spurs even if the 2029 1st is taken out. Get another young emerging star in Murphy to join Wemby/Fox/Castle while snagging KK at 7 (if he lasts that long) along with Olynyk who has always been a solid bench big. You turn probably your 2 worst contracts into a massive immediate talent upgrade that significantly improves your present and future outlook.

Nope. It's much easier to find a player like Trey Murphy than it is to find a prospect like Dylan Harper. You don't move potential franchise caliber players for role players, even good ones.

The Spurs aren't trading 2, and they certainly aren't going to give the Pelicans a good deal to drop back five spots.

Huge overpay by SA. I don't see them moving #2 at all, but if they did then they're bending the Pelicans over. Pelicans would have to include H.Jones, and a bunch of extra unprotected picks.

Thanks all. I was mainly thinking of it in a BOS/SAS Brown for 2 trade then flipping to NOP.
I didn't want to cloud things with the Brown details since he has such a wide range of valuation here. From lots fans here that don't want him for free due to $ to Shams saying the offers BOS are receiving are ridiculous.

Honest question...I know Harper is the consensus number 2, but what exactly makes him so special? He doesn't look too athletic (by NBA standards), he's not a great shooter, nor does he excel on defense, he seems like a very dubious selection (as a fit) for the Spurs (similar strengths and weaknesses to their guards)... I'm probably wrong, but can you tell me what I'm missing? (I've only watched a few videos and it seems like he'll have a long NBA career, but I'm getting D. Russell vibes)

I'm an outlier as I like this better for SAS than I do for NOP.

That may be too rough on him; let's say Scoot Henderson vibes.

Clearly you never watched Scoot or Harper play, because they're nothing alike, particularly their ability to get to the rim and finish, Harper is ELITE, Scoot is POOR. Harper is also much bigger and a better ballhandler. I don't know that Scoot has anything on Harper, really.

I love it for SA. Wemby missing the last part of last season with blood clots and reports that he's one more blood clot episode away from a medical retirement, I don't think SA should wait around for Dylan Harper. The kid is 19 yrs old and he couldnt really even win games at the college level.
If I was the Spurs I'd be levveraging my good luck (moving up to #2) for help in the more immediate term. With Wemby at his size and health concerns, just go for it.

"One more blood clot away from retirement"? Source? Also, even if that were the case, my conclusion would be the exact opposite, you don't put all of your eggs in one basket, if you trade potentially your second highest upside player and things take a turn for the worst, you'll instantly regret it.

I think it was Brian Windhorst on the hoop collective at the time of the diagnosis. Definitely heard it on the one of the big NBA podcasts. Google is your friend, lol

It might have actually been Tim Bontempts who said Wemby was one more DVT away from retirement. He may have been basing it on the case of Chris Bosh.
"At least four other NBA players — the Detroit Pistons’ Ausar Thompson, the Toronto Raptors’ Brandon Ingram, the Los Angeles Lakers’ Christian Koloko and Hall of Famer Chris Bosh — have developed DVTs. Wembanyama’s situation reminded many of Bosh, who at the peak of his career sustained a DVT shortly after the 2015 All-Star break. Bosh had to be hospitalized because several of the clots broke free and ended up lodged in his lungs. Sadly, he was forced to retire the following year after he developed a second DVT. At that point, it was clear that he’d need to stay on anticoagulant medication (called blood thinners) and for that reason could no longer play in the NBA."

Brian Windhorst is not a medical professional, there are much more authoritative opinions on Wemby's condition:

The Ohio St version of D'Angelo Russell was a MUCH better shooter off the dribble. They really play nothing alike.
The sell job on Harper is his ultimately his ability to get to the rim and finish. We're not talking about being a good finisher for a Guard. He finished at the rim with similar volume and frequency to few other Freshmen in recent history. And all of those comps were some form of big -- Zion, Ben Simmons, etc. Like you said, he's not a hyper athlete. He's a skill rim finisher on a level we haven't seen in quite a while for a Guard. Finishers in this vein tend to translate super well to NBA spacing. He still needs to shoot or he won't live up to his hype. The defense definitely needs work. But the finishing and size are the building blocks.

Windhorst is one blood clot from being 6 feet under. The man is the last person to give medical analysis.

I think it was moreso they were reporting what they heard. I don't think it's complicated or controversial to say that if any player has multiple life threatening DVTs they will retire from their sport. This is not to say Wemby will suffer another one. Obviously I hope he doesn't. The case of Chris Bosh has established that if the player has two, they will medically retire. No one will risk their life just to play professional sports.

I like this a lot for SA
Murphy is a PERFECT fit with their lineup
They pick Malauch at #7 and BPA at #14 (Fleming/Newell?)
But, make it simplier
#7/Murphy, and a future 1st (Milw?) for #2/KJohnson/Wesley
NO pairs Harper with Zion, and still has Jones to play the 3, and Missi at the 5.
Harper/CJ/Jones/Zion/Missi
SA goes with
Fox/Castle
Vassell/Castle
Murphy/Barnes
Sochan/Fleming or Newell
Wemby/Sochan
SA also adds another future pick and dumps Johnson here
