It’s Salaun all over again, but somehow in reverse, the wishcasting Olympics where a limited player inexplicably gets painted with a huge ceiling for reasons that remain unclear.

Last year it was making Salaun into the “next Giannis” this year draftniks have decided to make an incredibly unathletic prospect with #13 overall written all over him into Luka 2.0.

Basketball IQ is such a tough skill to translate to the next level which is why for me it's just not a huge selling point on Kon. The game just speeds up so much from NCAA to NBA.

To be fair most of the white guy tropes seems true about him lol.

I don't have any issue with people thinking he is good, but I keep seeing weird comparisons and claims about him more so than any other prospect. Like people comparing him on defense to Grant Williams who plays at 240 lbs and can play small ball center, or acting like hes a ball handling wizard who is going to play PG and torch guys off the bounce and pressure the rim, or just comparing him to guys that are way more athletic than him in general.

Sometimes when people talk about him it almost sounds like they can't tell apart white people and have him confused with Cooper Flagg.

It seems like the guys that tend to get the kinds of generous projections hes getting are more likely prospects like Ace Bailey. Its even more interesting because Ace is actually getting trashed on more than any prospect right now. People are acting like Aces only hope is to embrace being Jabari Smith Jr and projecting Kon to be a combo of Steph/Luka with better defense.

On some level I kind of get it, because I also tend to favor prospects with high feel/IQ who know how to play basketball and I honestly think Ace is a terrifying prospect Id probably rather avoid if possible, but maybe people are over correcting and starting to undervalue tools.

My thinking is that no amount of feel/IQ/well-rounded skill is going to make Kon a potential number one scoring option like Ace nor a primary playmaker /engine of an offense like Fears. Salaün had neither tools nor IQ/feel/balance.

What they're saying is he can play defense, facilitate through setting screens and moving the rock, and just basically be a useful pro without trotting out the kind of unrealistic comparisons you've been making. Lots of guys in the NBA fit that bill, it just so happens Grant is that player on the Hornets so Grant's the example.

What I'm hearing touted about Kon sounds way to similar to what I heard touted about un remarkable players in McDermott, Krispert, and Sheppard.

I’m all in. This is my pick. I haven’t been right on a draft pick in 10 years so feel free to bring it back up when he becomes a shorter Robert swift. This is my guy though.

Edit: Other than obviously Flagg I’ve been out on Duke players up to this point at 4.

I’d take Proctor in the 40s though. Maluach would piss me off 20 times more than the Salaun pick.

People here have watched a lot of Kon games so when he gets generalized in tweets and posts here as nothing but a shooter and they’ve seen all these other little things he did throughout the year like make a good pass or play a stretch of good defense they think people are whiffing their reads.

The fallacy is that they don’t use that process with anyone else so you end up with Kon the secret intangibles monster versus the Ace Bailey they are reading about on twitter. We should be more hyper aware of this phenomenon than most teams because it happens every day with LaMelo where half the NBA fandom hates his guts because they’ve only ever watched him on tweets and TikTok reels

Not saying everyone is like this or anyone specifically here but it’s not a small portion of the fan base when you have so many Duke fans and UNC fans do the same stuff whenever they have a guy up there.
