Re: Warriors exploring S&T for Kuminga
Nets the only team that could easily take on JK's contract, Warriors want Cam Johnson (whose trade value will start declining as his contract will be under 2 years remaining next season), seems like a good 1:1 opportunity for everyone.
By the way, Cam can shoot the ball, but he's a horrible rebounder for his size, like WAY worse than JK (9.2 vs 6.8 per 100 possessions), who gets crucified for his rebounding. You could say that's because Cam is shooting from the perimeter, but that's normally where Kerr has Kuminga spend most of his time too.
Maybe throw in a pick swap or heavily protected FRP if needed, but I really don't think Cam Johnson is getting the 2+ FRP haul they want. JK can be bring in fans to watch non-stop highlight dunks when they let him run wild.

With football season coming up I'm starting to pay a little more attention to the 49ers and it struck me that Kuminga is maybe the Deebo Samuel of basketball. Supremely talented athlete who showed flashes of superstar play potential at times, but inconsistently, and could never quite fit into a quirky, highly structured system with a somewhat inflexible coach at the helm who always puts faith in his system above all else.

Dray is more like Deebo. A has been. Cost too much. A Diva. Coach thinks he is needed and can't change around him, where other teams already know he is useless.
At least the 49ers already figured it out. I was one of the few that wanted both Deebo and AI gone. WR just cost too much... and being a Diva too... should have just sent them out when they had value last year.

Trusting LeBron more than Tatum isn't the same as trusting Gui Santos more than Kuminga.

I guess we'll find out soon enough whether much of the discussions this offseason have been posturing, or whether JK truly has limited options. This is not a good offseason for a player hoping for a sizable RFA offer.
You would think JK would want to move on to another team, but if no real RFA offer comes or a decent S&T the Warriors would accept, then what? Good chance Lacob would bail him out by offering a solid contract.

At this point I wonder if he'd even get 4/100 from any team. And yes I do mean any.

You sign him for a contract you expect to be tradable which he'll become tradable Jan 15th. At some point in the season some teams that have hopes of being good next year will have underwhelming seasons and with that may move some vet players to go in a younger direction.
Extending Kuminga isn't the worst thing, it'll give GS a chunky contract to move this season outside of Butler and Draymond.

Re: Warriors exploring S&T for Kuminga
Whats the rules on matching an AAV of an offer sheet that has an increasing or decreasing annual value?
Everything i’m seeing is you have to match exactly whats on the offer sheet, which could make things tricky for Warriors.
Example:
Nets offer 4/92. 23m AAV. In theory that could be an easy match for Warriors. But if it’s signed as a decreasing value of 26/24/22/20 and Warriors have to match those terms… any use of the TPMLE goes out the window… also means more rookie minimums than tenured vet minimums to stay under the 2nd apron.
Yet, if we can change the terms (again, not sure on the rules but I don’t think we can)…. 20/22/24/26 allows us to have the TPMLE and tenured vet minimums.
Regardless, best case scenario is nobody is willing to throw close to 100m at Kuminga and we can agree to something like that increasing deal; allowing us to use TPMLE and vet minimums.

I'm pretty sure it's the exact contract gets matched, but will let the cap experts to confirm.
I really think he gets a 2+1 (PO) type of contract so he can opt out earlier if he does well. This would be the most sensible way of him betting on himself and the Warriors would most likely have cap space on that 3rd option year for him. Would expect anywhere between 3/45 - 3/75. Though based on who we've brought in for workouts, we might be planning on trading one of our wings at some point. Really a shame that Knox isn't a better defender.

Re: Warriors exploring S&T for Kuminga
Would people be willing to S&T JK for 3/75 + Moody for Wiggins?
That would give us a closing unit of Curry/Podz or Buddy/Wiggins/JB/Dray. I'd feel really good about that team.
Curry/Podz
Wiggins/Buddy
JB/GP2
Dray/Gui

I'd assume we'd pick RJ Luis or Micah Peavy. Add Knox. That makes 13 add another guard (14), then choose your adventure for 15.

Honestly not sure I'd give up on Moody to get Wiggins. I feel like Wiggins' best is behind him and Moody is on the rise and heading into his prime. I wonder if Miami would take Buddy instead of Moody, then you get the best of both worlds in my opinion. If we could have Moody and Wiggins together that would be fire.

Yea fair. It is terrible value as well. Though would you add our 26 1st for #20 this year? Select Clayton
Curry/Clayton
Wiggins/Podz
JB/Buddy/GP2
Dray/Gui

That gives us a lot of shooting on the bench

I tell you what. I'd move up for Sorber if he's there.

But we did have that, for 3.5 years. I would not categorize those years as "fire"

Moody was only freed after Wiggins was traded imo. Gimme Steph/Moody/Wiggins/Jimmy/Draymond in the playoffs...I'll take it.

Maybe JK plus heat’s 2025 2nd round for Kyle Anderson, our 2025 1st round and a future Heat FRP?
This will allow us to use the Full MLE this offseason.

Re: Warriors exploring S&T for Kuminga
Yeah, I really think the "getting the band back together" path by giving up assets to re-acquire Wiggins is risky. We already did that with GP2 and it didn't buy us much. I get that Wiggins had some good moments and he knows Kerr's system...but the dude has been unreliable his whole career, even the better parts. He just disappears for whole games, or even months in the middle of a season. You give him a 3-year contract he'll be 32 at the end of it. And everyone is all over Kuminga for his "horrible" rebounding, but apparently just fine with Wiggins, who rebounded last year at a rate of 7.2 per 100 possessions compared to Kuminga's 9.2. I think we can do better, and I don't say that as someone who's a Wiggins' hater, I just feel like he served his purpose here and it's time to move on.

Butler said Andrew wiggins was the most physically gifted player he ever played with....that said, I know butler got on all his teammates in Minnesota for lack of effort and bball iq. I think the wiggins ship has sailed.
