Jacy Sheldon has been receiving death threats on her Instagram because of this. People need to think about what they're doing when they try to push this fake narrative that the players are out to hurt Clark. It's a lie, and a dangerous one.

I agree 100%. To be clear, my comments on this thread are intended as glosses on professional basketball history, rather than any attempt to claim that Clark is being uniquely targeted -- or that racism is a factor. (As evidenced by the skin color of both Sheldon and Mabrey.)

I mean, this is the way that competitive basketball works. The best way to defend an elite player is to body that player up, bump them around, commit constant borderline fouls that you hope aren't called. It happened to Mike, it happened to Shaq, and it now happens to Steph, Jokic, and Caitlin. 'Tis the way of the world

But Steph gets into fewer scraps than Cailtin because he's not as feisty in retaliation.

Oh no worries, I got you. My comment was just regarding how this is being digested by the fanbase in general.

In a way, I am kind of relieved, and it's horrible to say this, that the players involved in this scuffle were all white players. Because the Black players were unfairly attacked last season when this was -never- a racial issue.

It's crazy how men can cuss each other out on the floor, say racial and bigoted slurs to each other, knock each other around and it's fine, but let women do any of this and everyone loses their minds. It's sad.

Not that anyone should be saying the n word or the f word, but you get the gist

If I was coaching a team, I'd absolutely have my best perimeter defender pick up CC the length of the court and be physical with her. You have to. Look at how she was bombing on my Liberty...hell no!!! Lmao. The Clark Rules are going to become a real thing.

Physical Defense doesn't mean blows to the head or off ball body checking. Let's be clear.

CC talks more trash and plays way more physically than Steph to me.

Stephen A, who i loathe, made an excellent point. Caitlin is like Larry Bird. Talks a ton of trash, backs it up and isn't afraid to get physical. Her fans gotta understand that this is a two way street. Like Skylar Diggins is gonna be in CC's face the entire game when Seattle and Indiana play, and that to me is must watch TV because those two have some of the most fiery personalities in the league. If it gets physical, so be it, as long as no one is trying to injure someone and the refs keep things in check.

I'm sorry but the way she's infantilized by her fans is highly problematic. She's not asking to be protected or coddled.

Refs aside, the psycho fans and the media who rage baits to the culture warriors in her fanbase for clicks are the problem here. Not CC. Or the other players.

As you can tell from my post, I agree. The only point where I’d diverge slightly is the statement on other players not being the problem.

They overwhelmingly aren’t a “problem,” but one-off players should be addressed with appropriate suspensions should their behavior continue. These players can be counted on one hand (prob don’t even need the whole hand), and not representative of the league as a whole.

Mabrey is one to monitor for always being involved in stuff like this. It’s like Draymond going on and on and on…though what he’s done is far worse than anything I’ve seen MM ever do. The leagues should both reprimand pattern behavior.

I don’t know if they do the N# technicals = suspension like the NBA, but that seems like an appropriate rule for the W too. Don’t over index on any complaining or the dust ups.

Let me clarify, I am not excusing the behavior of Marina. She should have been ejected immediately.

There are always going to be habitual line steppers. I love Dijonai, but she's a line stepper. I love Marina, but she is also a line stepper. Sophie is absolutely a line stepper. These are highly polarizing players. We can name others as well, but that's where the refs and league comes in to regulate their behavior so things don't go crazy.

Technicals add up to a suspension in the W. CC came dangerously close if I recall last year.

SO if your an nba fan coming over to watch CC games and your hyper focused on just her i can see why it looks like targeting. When in fact it mostly (not all) falls into the category of ordinary wnba game happenings.

When you watch other games you will see a bunch of other players getting clocked in the head as well. the league is far from polished. way too many players still miss bunnies and layups to be playing at this high of a level. part of these criticism come from the fact that a larger amount of eyes are now on your product. IN some ways the wnba was a tree that fell in the woods. If something happened in the past there was little to no coverage on it. Now you have a seat at the table and it comes with new responsibilities.

Great post. 100% agreed.

I don't want the physical play to go away, but the refs need to clean up their act. You can't allow someone to be body checked like that and not call a flagrant. As i said before, Sophie hit Sabrina the other day and the refs let it go as a common foul when it was absolutely not a clean play at all.

There's a balance that needs to had. No one should be getting away with clearly dangerous fouls.

one of the talking heads mentioned this the other day. if a player can torch you like CC can then you have to do everything you can within the rules to stop it. as you said, teams already have CC rules. She is still the only player i have seen in the W that is face guarded the entire time.

There are occasions when i feel she is getting cheap shots; there are other times when she makes a mountain out of a mole hill with her complaining to the refs. Something she did in college as well and i hope with better reffing and more maturity she will grow out it.

E-Wheezy will be in her face too. And Gabby. It takes a village to try to stop/wear down CC.

Libs really needed a Fiebich in that village.

Schedule doing you no favors either. Caitlin's first game back, Dream with a CC birth on the line, and now Mercury tonight after the big 3 are back with one game under their belt.

Makani was on fire..You know you're rolling when you get treated to a Stewie-Cloud blitz at the top of the arch. No screen, no teammate within 15 feet. Just "no matter what happens ,you're not scoring this position, kid".

This home grown "turf style" dance style that is not all that new or unique it looks like the 80-90 year old dance team for Miami Heat...Goldin Oldies I think is what they are called...

Clark with a cold hand but Boston looking damn near unguardable out there. still, Clark hits a few of her 3's and this game would be winnable
