Absolutely he's so inept against physical players.

People clamour about his ball handling skills and wing like skill set for a 7'2 player. But he cant use it when intensity is up. He cant body-up smaller players because he's the same weight.... so put a wing player on him and his ball handling is now useless and he's so turn over prone when he spins into traffic. Get him low post but then watch him bounce and get pushed out of position by EVERY big man who is over 220 pounds.

He costed Thunder games in this Finals series.

Basically, put a stretch Center on him, who has 30 pounds or more on him and close enough in height and you neutralize him easily. Then if he plays PF, then put your quick 6'7 defender on him and he can't dribble spin because he's slow against those players.

He NEEDS to get muscular and strong to actually reach his potential. He is just SUPER frustrating to watch right now.

i have literally forgotten he's over 7'. i thought he was 6'11 or something - honestly until you just now said

he plays small. nothing in his game that says "i'm bigger than you"

I think OKC should definitely give Chet and JDub 5 year max extensions this summer.

I always said I saw Chet more as a high role player. He will never be a #1 option, but he is a good energy guy and shot blocker. while not great, he is a solid 3 pt shooter, even if it is a slow shot. Paolo will never be the defensive player that Chet is, but he does give effort and isnt horrible on the defense side. He has also elevated his game come playoff time, but he needs to be more efficient and show up more in the regular season. He is Orlando's #1 option and is game planned against every night, and he could use much better guard play to help him (and he has asked for PG help from the front office), but if the team could shoot 3's better, it should give him a little more spacing. the 2 players can both be good players, but i guess they will always be tied together because of Chet being initially seen as the "obvious" #1 pick of the draft going into it.

Chet gets dominated by almost everyone.
That's why they were forced to overpay Hartenstein.

I cannot wait for OKC to give him a max salary.

whats sad is that if this happens and shai signs a supermax, their ability to contend essentially ends. because at least 3 guys on the current roster would have to be replaced with minimum guys who are either severely limited on offense, or defense. They should really look to consolidate their draft picks to get more favourable ones so they can constantly bring in low cost talent.

Chet's an awesome player, but boy isn't built to battle as a go to. That's why I can't rank him ahead of Paolo, we just haven't seen Chet able to carry any sort of load.

Yeah with his length he needs to develop a face up midrange game.

TBF, Paolo isn't doing an amazing job of carrying the load either. He's scoring poorly on a bad offensive team which evened out with high-end defense of which he wasn't a huge contributor; and then he didn't stun in the first round, though he was hitting 3s against Boston. Kind of a brutal scoring performance from him after Game 1.

But to your point, yes, Chet isn't being asked to even try that, so it's hard to directly compare them on offense. Obviously on defense, there's a very large difference, and he's a better rebounder per-minute. How much we care about that last one is variable, since he plays less than 30 mpg, naturally.

Narratives change fast. Next year will be a real test for Paolo. Bane is a great fit. OKC vs Magic not likely but would help this debate a lot ;)

I don't think Presti will trade Chet at all even if Giannis become available on the Market.

For all we know, Chet can redeem himself with an impatctful and match winning game 7 and all is forgiven/forgotten.

Remember he missed his first season as a Pro after being drafted by the Thunder with a serious knee injury. Who knows what impact they had on his confidence and especially with regards to his physicality (or perceived lack thereof)

Next year's a big year for Banchero, for sure. It's his 4th in the league, and we should be looking for something more than inefficient volume gunnery out of him as a scorer. Maybe development as a rebounder, hopefully development as a defender. Moves well, passes well, needs to learn how to make shots. He can create a shot for himself pretty well, which is its own kind of skillset, but that needs to come with making them as well, or it means only so much.

Much to look forward to next season as far as watching his potential development.

Chet at the moment is a high-end role player. Comparing Chet to Paolo is like comparing Jarrett Allen to 4th year Jayson Tatum.

It was his foot in year one. His pelvis/hip in year three. He has missed a lot of time due to injury, so hopefully he can have a stretch of prolonged good health so he can improve.

I still think his game/shot diet should have way more mid-range attempts, like even 15-18 feet. I spent my formative years watching Ewing and Olajuwon make baseline 13-18 footers and punish defenders who didn't want to allow them to attack the rim. Now those seem to be considered bad shots unless they're threes I guess. But since Chet shoots a flat shot, perhaps getting closer to the basket would be more useful for him. He's always turning and facing from the 3-point line and I just think that's too far out IMO. It doesn't play to his strengths at all.

He's a sophomore with a lot of upside. It's too early to say what he isn't capable of already. It takes time to put on weight if you don't have the genetics to easily put it on and he has plenty of skills left to learn so he can improve overall. I say OKC will give him that max extension. If it doesn't work out, they can just trade him.

Next year he's a 4th year pro. You don't get a mulligan for missing a season.

He will get better as he bulk up in the future
