Celtics starting 5

Post#1 » by mdonnelly1989 » Fri Jun 20, 2025 6:39 pm

With Jayson Tatum out indefinitely I got to thinking how I would structure the roster.

I would go

Starting 5

PG: Derrick White
SG: Jrue Holiday
SF: Jaylen Brown
PF: Porzingis
C: Al Horford

This is actually a damn good starting 5 really. I'm not worried about JB being a little undersized at the SF. He's a Wing anyways. I think having D White and Holiday out there is probably the best defensive backcourt and both players can hit 3s to space out the floor for JB to work inside. How far they go next year IMO will be determined by the health and play of KP

I think there's a good chance at least one of those five are not playing for Boston next year

So you would start their 5 main players and your 6th man would be their 6th man?
Good stuff man! You must have spent a lot of time on this lol
And yeah little chance their roster even looks like this when the season starts.

Jrue and/or KP will be traded this summer to dodge the 2nd apron and Horford may retire. They may not even start Brown in October given he just underwent surgery for his meniscus.

The Celtics opening night starting 5 is probably...

1. Pritchard
2. White
3. Hauser (if Brown isn't ready)
4. Pick #28
5. Xavier Tillman

What do you mean by JB undersized at SF? That’s where he normally starts anyway…basically interchangeable with JT at either forward spot.

Horford and Kornet are gone in free-agency.

Porzingis and Holiday are gone via trade.

Brown will probably be kept for another season due to Tatum injury. But traded next off-season.

Team will be a mess next season.

I know they have to trade just to relieve cap space but I still think they are going to be a good team next season. They have good players and their going to get good assets back if they are traded.

I can imagine that they go the GS/San Antoniio route and tank next season to get a good pick in 2026. They own their own pick and there are quite a few PF/C prospects that are expected to go top 10, so exactly the position they will have the biggest gap.

If they trade Brown and leave the rest in place they will win 50 games and be a contender the following year when Tatum returns.

If they keep Brown and dismember the rest of the team they will win 35-40 games and won't contend for a decade.

Where do you think JB has been starting for years? Have you watched the Celtics at all in the last few years?

It will be interesting to see how Boston runs their offense. For a team dependent on the 3 ball, I could see a significant drop-off with Tatum's ability to create out of the picture.
Well at least we're not Detroit!

Pritchard will be the starting PG

The rest is tricky to answer at this point in the summer.

i mean Ime and Joe took them further than Brad ever did. But Brad was a solid coach and seems to be even better in the front office.

Celtics could legit be a lottery team next year. Luckily they still have their pick.

It would probably be wise to do that but unless Brown's recovery just ends up being way longer than anticipated, him and White can probably stack some wins. Especially if they still have at least 1 of Jrue, KP, or Horford.
