PHX TRADES: Grayson Allen
DET TRADES: 2025 #2 (TOR)
Pistons get a potentially cheaper SG if Beasley has priced himself out of Detroit's liking after his great year...
Suns get cap room below the 2nd apron to make a Durant (and any other deals) much easier to do

Re: Suns and Pistons...helping Durant
I think it’d need to be closer to 29+Allen for a future 2nd that isn’t an earlier 2nd. I posted a trade that had Minnesota move slightly up in the draft for DDV into cap space and the general feedback was it doesn’t make sense to give up an asset for that type of player due to how many will be on the market. Allen, imo, is a worse player than DDV and doesn’t fit into the MLE like DDV does making him harder to trade too.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.

Why is allen worse? I think he is a better shooter

If hauser is free or returns value the superior Allen absolutely does. He doesn't make too much money for what he brings

Hard to say since you’re already selling a lousy scenario where we’re losing Beasley.
Piston fans for the most part are optimistic we can keep him and won’t fancy giving up a high second rounder to downgrade him, which would also require us to renounce THJ (no problem) and Schroeder (slight problem).

Both Grayson Allen and Malik Beasley fill the role of bench scorer. Neither player, IMO, should be paid more than the NTMLE. In a cap constrained world, you can't pay everyone, and I really only want to spend significant money on 2 bench players: a playable backup big and a backup PG who can run the offence. Allen is neither of those.
I hope to keep Beasley on a cheap contract below the NTMLE. Personally, I'd rather see him walk than overpay, but I'm probably more worried than most DET fans about Beasley reverting to his average level of play after a career year.
Allan is overpaid at $16.9M next fall, 3yrs/$54M remaining. Since his contract runs over 3 more seasons, he's going to collide with a bunch of potential rookie extensions we have coming up, and I'm just not interested in trading for that financial problem for someone who wouldn't/shouldn't start.
In a no-win argument, the first poster to Let It Go will at least retain some peace of mind

Not sure why we'd pay a high second for Grayson Allen when we can just keep Beasley for what should be a better price.

Eh, it’s kind a trade mechanics thing. Allen requires either cap space or a large TPE, both of which carry significantly more opportunity cost than a smaller TPE or MLE that Hauser would be acquired with. And also in a league where pretty much any move hard caps you at some threshold, the extra salary can blow up those calcs for some team.
It’s “only” $6M but I just think that makes a world of difference in trade mechanics. An Allen deal where Phoenix takes back salary absolutely brings back more than a Hauser deal where Boston takes back salary, but I think Hauser dumped for minor value is mechanically easier to execute and thus much more realistic.
CHI already has a ton of guards so they’re likely not batting their TPE on him. Kings get real tight against the tax if they use their on him and would have to send out salary to fill in the roster under it after acquiring Allen. BRK has cap space but seem unlikely to use it to give value for someone like Allen. DET only has cap for him if they can’t keep Beasley who they seemingly prefer. On paper right now ATL is the only team I see as an immediate fit for him without sending money back so it gets tough to project that kind of return because just by taking him I think ATL is already offering something no one else can/will.

Robinson is just fine as a movement shooter and spacer. And that second round pick got us another shooter too.
