Obie trice real name no gimmicks. I got a chance to revisit this album after listening to Devil's Night - going through the whole Shady takover he had past marshall mathers LP.
This was when he gave the detroit rappers a chance, featured with them, hung out with them and because of this he signed Obie Trice. Obie's timing with shady was unfortunate because Eminem brought in 50 cent around the same time, taking away all the spotlight he could've had
2nd round's on me is his second album with beats mostly from Eminem and JR Rotem. Eminem did have his own sound going for him in this area, if you listen to "Wake Up", and "There they go". Obie Trice has bars for days
JR Rotem has been an excellent beatmaker for as long as I can remember - master on the keyboards like Scott Storch. 24's, Ghetto, and the Nate Dogg track were pretty hot.
Obie had a lot of growth on this album with a couple of commercial tracks to promote the album, one with akon, and another track called Jamaican Girl produced by Em with somewhat of a carribean drum influence. The akon track is pretty memorable, but someone from Detroit trying to mess around with the carribean accent gets a bit corny in Jamaican girl. But i give him credit for being versatile, came up with decent hooks, and was able to write on all kinds of subject matter.
Good album, I'd say better than the debut, but surprised the album didn't sell as much. It was good reminsicing about my childhood while listening to this album - lots of freedom
