Kuminga sign and trade Bulls interest

Post#1 » by coldfish » Sun Jun 22, 2025 12:27 pm

The Chicago Bulls have emerged as an interested team for Jonathan Kuminga. Chicago would be looking to acquire Kuminga as part of a sign-and-trade transaction, given the Bulls are well over the salary cap heading into the offseason.

Not sure the salary but if the Bulls send out an expiring this seems like the "buy low" type situation the Bulls have been hunting recently.

Not a particularly productive nor efficient player but he still has that "lottery pick" glow on him.

Given their salary situation, GS may prefer to just let him walk for nothing rather than do a sign and trade. The Bulls may have to find a third team to take salary. It would likely take draft picks to facilitate all of this and I'm not sure Kuminga is worth many picks.

Could someone help me with the salary cap rules on this? Apparently Bulls can only trade half the agreed about salary back due to base year compensation rules? Seems like Lonzo plus draft compensation might work but how can the Bulls take on more salary as an over the cap team?

Kuminga is a guy who is gonna look to be our #1 scoring option. It's who he is and what he does. If we do that deal, I'd 100% be looking to trade Coby. A scoring combo of Coby/Kuminga has all the earmarks of Lavine/Derozan both offensively and defensively.

I might gamble on this, 4 years/$70 million (team option)
If BRK won't bid and GS is not interested in a return that # is the best he can do
We absorb him into the TPE, and MAYBE send the Port pick

I would rather avoid though, and just draft Noa/Newell/Fleming at #12

If the Bulls do, you would be complaining to much to ever hear it.

NBA fan logic we need to trade one of two best players because (Player X) one needs to shine more.

No one has cap for Kuminga nor do they want to give up assets for him.

Dubs will want Vuc for Kuminga.

Bulls will want Pat for Kuminga.

Let’s see who flinches.

You basically got it. He's BYC, so his salary counts as half for fulfilling trade requirements of salary with a %. This will trigger because it's both a S&T and his previous salary (rookie scale) was much lower, so he'll trade at his current salary ($7.6M) or 50% of the new salary. Considering most think Kuminga will get around $30M per year on a new team, he will trade at 50% of the new salary most likely.

I've mainly seen Lonzo + filler or Vucevic and then GS sends someone else in scenarios.

Both. Dubs wanted Vuc but wouldn’t give up a 1st for him. Reports have said Vuc will be gone and the price is a 1st. Bulls seem to be the only team that wants Kuminga.

Have a hard time believing we trade for Kuminga while Pat is here. I do think the Dubs would want good Pat over Kuminga due to fit.

Kuminga is a homeless man’s DeMar. Ball stopper who can’t shoot. Also inconsistent on defense. Terrible fit with Giddey. Typical AK mediocrity.

I'd rather keep our expiring contracts. Kuminga isn't a good fit here. The only way I'd be somewhat interested is if we were moving Williams to do it. But, that's going to be difficult in a S&T with the cap rules around it.

I’m not going to express some well researched opinion. I haven’t seen a whole lot of Kuminga, but of what I have seen I’ve never gravitated towards him as a target for Bulls.

This does not excite me.

Kuminga moves well without the ball and plays above the rim. His size would allow him to play F along with Buz. I am for this trade depending on what we send out.

A lineup of the below would be fun
1 Giddey
2 White
3 Kuminga
4 Buz
5 Queen

I'm with you. I see the appeal in that he is a scorer, but his lack of a 3 ball and defense are a problem. The Demar comp is spot on.

If I had any faith the Bulls would do something else with those expiring, I'd be there with you. But we know this FO often lets players and assets expire for nothing. Seeing as how we're over the cap now and possibly for the foreseeable future, this might be the only chance we have at adding talent at this minimal of a cost.

We have a lot of cap space projected for next summer. Eating into that now for a player like Kuminga doesn't seem wise.
