Re: OT: General Off Topic Thread [No Politics, Race, Religion, etc.]
I enjoy reading, but mostly non-fiction in the historical/autobiographical genre. The last one I finished was The Message by Ta-Nehisi Coates. The last book I started was Bailout by Neil Barofsky, which I found quite interesting. But work/life got in the way and I haven't had the time to finish it. I've probably got a dozen books that actively fall under that category right now, where I started them, enjoyed them, got anywhere from 25-50% into them, but got distracted by life and never had a chance to go back. And when I do get some free time, there's another book that's caught my eye that I dive into and may/may not be able to finish.
I've tried incorporating audiobooks on my drives. But I'm not sure I'm enjoying it as much. It's slower, is pain to rewind when I get distracted, and sometimes the voices are not particularly enjoyable to listen to. My wife has gotten into audiobooks and she's discovered graphic audiobooks where they have voice actors and sound effects and music and such. She's especially enjoyed that for some of the fiction she's reading.

I recently bought a Kindle Paperwhite and found it has made reading much easier and enjoyable. I think I have averaged about 1.5 books a week since I got it. I don't really watch TV though.

I drop and quit TV shows left and right but I think I've only not finished one book my entire life. That's not to say I haven't read bad books it's more a sadistic thing where I feel obligated to finish books.

I've always been an early bird. Mrs. Finn is definitely not. Sleeping in for me is like 6AM. So, I pretty much get up & read for an hour (+/-) every day while nothing else is going on. Nice, relaxing start to the day. And when we're at the lake without TV, I'll read more while listening to some music or a baseball game. Doesn't get much better than that in my book (sorry...).

Bro what a heartbreaker. Feel so bad for their left fielder.

I'm not sure I've ever seen a worse loss on a baseball field. They had a tailor-made game ending double play hit to the short stop, and he inexplicably throws it to third. Then the left fielder botches a ball he just needed to keep in front of him. Finally the pitcher gets cute trying pitch around their big bat (that hit a homerun earlier in the game) and he leaves one up and out over the plate.
Just an incredible choke job.

I'm reading the new Chernow biography of Mark Twain, and I think he deserves to be thought of as the quintessential American:
- Was our greatest humorist and interjected/established satire, parody, and laughter in to our national identity
- Spent formative years living: in the south, out west, and on the east coast
- Was born poor, became wealthy multiple times in various ways, and also lost several fortunes (so American)
- If there are "two Americas" Twain represents this as he was born and raised a southerner, was a legit racist, fought for a week for the confederacy, but naturally on his own rejected slavery and became a dynamic force against racism and jingoism
- Invented the Kurt Cobain thing where he was a famous celebrity, who frequently explained that one shouldn't aspire to be a celebrity
- Was the first prominent voice to tell the country that African American culture was vibrant and artistic and deserving of appreciation
- Was a wonderful mix of principle, morality, and non conformity
- Extremely intelligent but mostly self taught

You are one of my favorite posters, because even when you are making a singular point, you raise so many more questions than you answer. Like, WTH China? WTH Trwi7? I don't understand you or China. But I'm intrigued.

I don't have a Popeyes near me but whenever I'm in town I stop. I don't think it's really all that great, but it's cheap. I order three spicy tenders and had to wait about 15 minutes, no problem. When the guy brought them out he added literally eight extra for the hell of it. I really only wanted one. I'm dieting FFS. It is insanely hard to only eat one chicken tender when a damn bucket is sitting next to you.

Go to the Popeyes on Capital if you want:
- delicious cheap chicken
- to watch a “clerk - customer fistfight”
- to likely hit a pedestrian who crosses in front of you just to see if you will stop

If you have little ones (even up to age 8-10 if they like doing little art projects) I highly recommend sugar painting.. Simple, not messy, fun and really cool looking art.

I can't believe they ran Coastal's manager and first base coach in the first inning.

Why anyone would choose to live in a climate where the weather is like this for months at a time is beyond me. My cousins grew up in Louisiana and said this was basically their entire summer so they’d never go outside.

Wow tossing coach in the finals of the CWS is insane for chirping him from the dugout. College baseball is already goofy as hell this just makes it look even more lame.

Can't stand LSU
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.
