Cannot have both ways 3ammy. Every summer you want to empty the clip on past-their-prime players, but you then want to also have the assets ready to trade for in-their-prime all star players as well. When we do not have the assets, you lash out at Riley and Co. We are inching closer to restocking our assets, and by holding firm to not overpay for Dame and KD, we may soon have all our draft capital finally restocked.
The one spot I wish Riley did better was having the forethought to trade a player like Jimmy, Martin, Nunn, etc. before they either hit free agency or are in control of their destination because they are on their last year (Jimmy). We need Riley to turn players into trades or assets. Only problem with that approach is then players start to see us as sellers and not loyal. It has the potential to negatively impact player buy-in. The other area is we need to stop overpaying for our homegrown players… which we later need to trade away with second round picks to get out of. In a nutshell, we need to do better with our management of picks, while not bidding against ourselves on our own free agents.
