We can predict the summer before it even gets here, idk why we wasted 4 and a half months talking about KD n

The hubris of this board to ignore the history of this front office and to stubbornly insist that the trade was a done deal would be knee slappin funny if the reality of the team's future prospects werent so tragic

They begged and cried for years to get rid of Butler and magically thought the team would flip a switch and build a better team once he was gone.

Butler is the consensus 3rd greatest player in team history and our genius filled fanbase thought that not only was he replaceable, but that it was gonna be a sinch to get a better player than him.

KD meanwhile gets traded for peanuts and it looks as though Mia's offer was less than peanuts.

Blow it up is what I said to all of the calls to trade Jimmy by this fanbase and Ive been saying that for years now.

Bam and Herro are Titos and finding a true alpha that maximizes their value is all but a pipedream.

To accomplish what? Win one or two games in the first round instead of being swept?

This build is going nowhere....only the Heat front office doesn't realize that yet.

What teams in the league look at the Heat's roster/draft pick situation and don't prefer their own?

It's that bad people.

To be honest I'm not even mad at Riley or the front office for missing on KD. As much as I wanted KD let's be honest. Suns wasn't taking anything from us over the 10th pick unless it was Ware. I'm not okay with trading Ware for KD at their respective ages. We just don't have the assets to compete on the trade market.

We complain about giving up assets but at the times the moves were necessary. Lowry, Rozier, Dipo. At the time of those moves they looked solid and like moves that would help move the needle. Just didn't work out.

Also I know people want to tank and sell the farm. That also normally leads to people being fired eventually. When picks don't pan out, or you don't get the top picks cause you get screwed in the lottery. How many teams really kept their front office and coaching staffs together through tanking? Tanking isn't a 1-2 year reset button. It takes a while. Ownership probably knows they have a good staff in house.

Cannot have both ways 3ammy. Every summer you want to empty the clip on past-their-prime players, but you then want to also have the assets ready to trade for in-their-prime all star players as well. When we do not have the assets, you lash out at Riley and Co. We are inching closer to restocking our assets, and by holding firm to not overpay for Dame and KD, we may soon have all our draft capital finally restocked.

The one spot I wish Riley did better was having the forethought to trade a player like Jimmy, Martin, Nunn, etc. before they either hit free agency or are in control of their destination because they are on their last year (Jimmy). We need Riley to turn players into trades or assets. Only problem with that approach is then players start to see us as sellers and not loyal. It has the potential to negatively impact player buy-in. The other area is we need to stop overpaying for our homegrown players… which we later need to trade away with second round picks to get out of. In a nutshell, we need to do better with our management of picks, while not bidding against ourselves on our own free agents.

Because they won’t pick a direction, we’re stuck in the middle so we’re forced to hope traffic old stars because we’ll never have the assets to get the young ones. That’s not on me lol. Pick a damn direction.

That definitely needs to happen… with that said, they cannot announce that we are going to send it the next two years. That 1) does not sell tickets, and 2) gets players to disengage or ask for trades out of town. I think Riley and Co. did pick a direction, but it’s the one they cannot announce. Just wish they were a bit more aggressive and willing to move players for assets they do not see as part of the team long term, and would play our kids way more, to help expedite their development.

As much as I wanted us to miss the playoffs this year, by making the playoffs, our future pick situation got a little cleaner, and will be clean soon enough.

I would love to see both Wiggins and Duncan traded for draft capital… while taking back out-of-favor reclamation projects like we got with Davion Mitchell.

The direction they picked is MIDNESS.
They don't want to trade real assets to go all in on the Bam/herro core.
But they don't want to nuke that core either.
So they are just waiting hoping something like the Butler trade falls into their lap. A star who still has a bit of prime left that is cheap

If they really picked young player rebuild route. Bam and Herro would be on the move

And I'm okay staying as if, if the plan is to see what they can do in 2026 as long as the prioritize the young player development next season.
But when 2026 comes and we strike out in FA, they gotta go rebuild

Also. Brooklyn Nets blew it up for example. How much closer do they look to be at being competitive again? It's been 3 seasons. Still no top 5 picks in the draft that I can remember. Blowing it up and tanking isn't easy and doesn't always work. Orlando, Detroit, Toronto, Utah etc.

No guarantee that ball bounces that way for Miami either. Goat Luck and Sheep Luck are 2 different things.

Meaning what happens for one doesn't necessarily means it'll happen for the next as well.

It doesn't have to be a 5 year window. It can be a 3 year window, if you are really good at drafting which Miami is.

And all teams minus 2 or 3 change their coaches on the regular regardless if they are rebuilding or not. So I don't think that has anything to do with rebuild. Spo is signed long term. Its like the Spurs situation. They didn't fire Pop when they were rebuilding.
Now if Spo doesn't want to do rebuild that's another thing. But he can't seriously think that for the rest of his Heat coaching career they won't go through a period of rebuild. Its part of the NBA cycle of life

Yes we're good at drafting but we've had misses as well. Winslow, Jaquez, Precious. Let's not pretend everything we touch turns into gold. Some prospects also just don't translate.

I am good with not getting Durant. My main focus was always just moving WIggins, the 20th pick, Robinson and Rozier and build around Bam and Herro and let Jaquez and Jaquez duke it out for the starting SF and finally the development of Ware.

Any one interested in trading for Jalen Green and team him up with Christopher?

Being good at drafting doesn't mean every single picks works out. Especially when you are picking in the teens.
Some ya'll be contrarians just to be contrarians.

Miami is a good drafting team. Herro, Bam, Ware overachieved where they were selected. Jaquez is still a solid pick at 18. Precious okay pick. Winslow is the one that you can say was a bust.

I would trust them with multiple lottery picks to get it right. The key is getting additional 1st rounders by moving Bam and Herro. So you can maximize your options

I don't agree with the notion, that if you give the Heat multiple lottery picks over 3 years that they wouldn't be able to get young players who ton of potential that could be allstars or would be attractive prospect to other teams. The goal would be obviously to draft an all nba guy. But failing that, you would have ton of tradeable young players who are attractive to other teams and additional 1st rounders so you have the ability to make 2 trades for allstars

I doubt it is nearly that bad. There are a handful of teams that own all the picks. We only owe one of relevance post tomorrow and it is lotto protected. If there are a bunch of teams controlling all the picks, then there are a bunch of teams owing picks.

Our disadvantage is we are always competitive so teams know our picks are lower in value.
